Running Gear Review

First of all...

IT'S FREAKING MARCH!

TEACHERS, REJOICE!!!!!

In just 26 days, it will be Spring Break and then there will be light at the end of the tunnel... We'll probably have one more snowstorm before then and lose our Spring Break to snow makeup days... but I'm getting ahead of myself!

Today I'm going to give you an update on some of the new running gear I have purchased within the past couple months.

**Note: The price in the links do not always reflect the price I paid for the item, but it is within a couple dollars.**

Initially, I was annoyed by these headphones because they don't stay on my ears unless my headband or buff is wrapped around them. That's fine for running in cold weather, but what about when I'm walking around Aldi, or cleaning the house, or just sitting at the dining room table doing a puzzle?

I ended up giving the headphones to my brother to try out and keep. I bought two pairs of my old headphones that are $7.00. They wrap around my ears perfectly and always stay in place. I just can't wear them on my runs when it's super duper cold or the wire freezes. On those days, I don't wear headphones and blast my phone from my pocket.

My hydration pack is a Northface Sailfin and I've been using it for nearly ten years. When my bladder finally bit the dust, I purchased a Nathan bladder that was recommended to me by my running pals. I love how the top of it folds over- way better than screwing on a lid. Also, the nozzle to suck water out of does not need to be turned to the side to work. You just suck the water out and that's the end of the story. Love it!

3. Garmin Forerunner 35. I am so glad to have a new Garmin! It does so much more than my old dinosaur did. Also, I am glad I got this model. I personally don't need anything fancier than the bells and whistles this one has.

4. Sacouny Peregrine trail shoes. After the Squirrelly Tail Twail Wun, I can honestly say I LOVE these shoes and they didn't let me down on crazy terrain. So thankful to find ones I like on the first try!

I'm still in the market for WARM running tights since I only have one pair. Since it's March, maybe I'll be able to find some on sale!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell me about some of the running gear you recently purchased. Do you like it?

Your Garmin: Not enough bells and whistles, too many, or just right?

  1. My sister and I were just talking about that same wireless headphone issue last night and she is afraid of hers falling out during a race. She decided to only wear them during runs and use her wired ones on race day.

I too am excited it's March and am looking forward to whatever Spring break we will get. Our students have off every Friday in March but one, so hopefully it will make the month go fast!

    1. Wow that's awesome they have off! Do you have PD, meetings, or do you just get to work in your room? Work in your room days are the best...

  2. I've just purchased a bunch of running clothes lately. The tights and capris from Old Navy Activewear were only $15 during president's day sale so now I pretty much own every pair they make :D

I like my Garmin a lot. I don't use all the bells and whistles it offers and could have gotten away with a lower model; however, I wanted the 235 in aqua since it's pretty! I *really* wanted the rose gold Garmin but I couldn't justify the price tag since I am not a triathlete and I have no desire to even try tris. I would accept it as a gift though hahahah!

    1. What a great deal on the Old Navy haul. Their "normal" clothes don't fit me but I have gotten running shorts there and they were awesome. It's too bad they don't make the Garmin you like in the color you like!

  3. I bought a new headlamp just last week. It was a SUPER great deal - only $2.50 shipped from Amazon! A coupon code from some running place that's trying to get established. I used it the other night and it's actually really bright. I really like that it has flashing red blinkers along the sides so I am visible from all sides.
For $2.50, I really couldn't say No to that deal!

  5. I have such a hard time with headphones! I can never find any that will stay in my ears! I end up blasting my phone as well!
Hopefully we don’t get anymore snow and we make it to April storm free!

  7. I got a Garmin 735xt in November. It's multi-sport and I love it! I like tracking my HR, steps per day and SLEEP! It's perfect for all the sports I do!

    1. Yeah! It must be so nice to have a good watch! Mine counts steps and sleep too which I love to look at. Although my sleep is not accurate... When I lay awake but I am "still" it thinks I am asleep.

  8. I got a Garmin Fenix this year and it's great for multisport activities. I still have to figure out some stuff with it though. Spring break will be here soon!

  9. I really want wireless headphones for the gym (because I always tangle myself up in the cord. I'm super graceful). I'm afraid I'll spend a bunch of money and have the same issue you did, though. I have freakishly small ears, and nothing stays in them.

Also, Skirt Sports makes a great pair of warm tights called Toasty Tights. They're a little spendy, but their stuff generally lasts for years. And I'm an ambassador, so I can hook you up with a discount if you're interested!

    1. The ones I got were only $21. I don't think I'd spend more than that without actually trying on a pair. I'd be fine with dropping some dough on good ones that work, are comfortable, and stay on my ears... buttttt I wont know if they work unless I try them. :(

Thanks for the offer for the discount! However, I think I need to try on whatever pants I get. I am big on that!

  10. I have the Jaybirds X3 wireless headphones and I am really happy with them. They don't have those wrap-around the ear things, but little wings that keep them in place. So far, I haven't had any problem of them falling out.

I recently got a MilestonePod as a gift and I have enjoyed the extra stats it provides about my run. I am a gadget and numbers nerd, but I know it's not for everybody ;)

    1. Oh yeah I know you are into numbers! I bet you already have a pie chart of your running ready for this year. ;)

  11. Thanks for this great post! I will definitely try out some of these gears you have recommended. You could also do a post on some all season clothing tips for workouts and jogging. I am usually sticking to casual tops and workout leggings and would love to get new ideas to change my workout attire.
