Thinking Out Loud #2

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... In case you missed last week's Thinking Out Loud, check it out here!

This is a link up that Amanda @ Running With Spoons started. She's a cool chick- check out her blog! Anyway, my second edition of Thinking Out Loud has a theme.... THE GYM.

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. First of all, I go to Planet Fitness.  Planet Fitness gets a lot of hate but it has everything I need in a gym. All the dumbbells, weight machines, and cable machines that I personally need, cardio equipment, and an area where I can jump around and do plyometrics like a crazy person. It's 24 hours and it's $10 a month. The perfect gym for me.

2. I don't like when people I don't know talk to me at the gym. It's mostly because I usually have an agenda, want to keep my heart rate up, and only have a certain amount of time to complete my workout. I don't have time to talk! Also, I look like shit and I sweat like crazy, which means I most likely smell, so... yeah, I don't like getting too close to people! (Now if you are someone I actually know and say hi to me, of course I will say hi back and will be happy to see you and chat for a minute. I'm talking about the random people I don't know who try to strike up a convo.)

3. I am embarrassed when I do my bench press warm up set only using the bar. I feel like I need to announce to everyone that I can bench more than the bar, and that this is just to warm up. Yes, I know that is very narcissistic of me to even think people are watching me at the gym and knowing how much weight I am using... I can't help it though!

4. If you are next to me on the treadmill, I will slyly look over and see what speed you are running and at what incline. I hate that I do it, but I do.

5. When I go to the gym, I go make up free. I don't have the greatest skin, so sometimes it really freaks me out to bare it all, but I do it anyway!

Me without make up, in all my shine-y, blotch-y glor-y!

6. And now for something completely random. Did you ever notice Jennifer Lopez plays the same character in every romantic comedy she is in? The only way I can tie this into the "gym" theme is that as I was typing up this post, I was watching The Back Up Plan. Mindless entertainment I tell ya!
Jennifer Lopez without makeup.
Damn her, she's still gorgeous!

Check out some of my other posts about Planet Fitness!

And some of my other RANTS!

Your turn.... tell me something random about the gym. Think Out Loud!

  1. Gym membership that is $10 a month sounds perfect for me too! My husband and I have been looking for an affordable gym. There is one that has a special going on right now until January 8 for $10 a month, so we are going to go check it out soon! Hopefully today!

  2. I don't like it when people talk to me at the gym...in general. The place I work for owns a gym (that we..of course..still have to pay..a lot for) - and I finally quit going, because it was like another hour extension of my work day. Come'on people...can't you see I'm busy?

    1. I don't think I would enjoy working out where I work either. I would definitely feel weird seeing co workers there.

  3. I'm seriously the most antisocial person when I'm at the gym… In fact, I used to go at all sorts of odd hours just so I could avoid the big crowds. That and I'd always make sure to have headphones in so that people wouldn't try and chat me up. Lol oh God it sounds so horrible when I say it. And just for the record, I think you look gorgeous without makeup!

    1. Thank you Amanda! The good part about being back at work now is that the gym is not very full in the early morning and the people that are there are NOT there to socialize.

  4. I HATE when people talk to me at the gym!!! Luckily, I have bitchy-resting-face, so I don't look very approachable. I do wear makeup...just concealer on any really big pimples, though.

One of the reasons I'm embarrassed to start lifting is how light the weights are that I'll be starting with. BUT I know no one really cares that much...we're all just there to do our own thing!

    1. "Bitchy-resting-face" - I love it!! Teach me!! Hey, don't be embarrassed about the weights you start with. Just make sure you have good form. I see dudes at the gym doing bicep curls with dumbbells and using their back to lean back and get the dumbbell up! I feel secondhand embarrassment for them, not someone who is actually handling the weights correctly- no matter how heavy or light they are! We all start somewhere.

  5. I am exactly the same way about bench pressing the bar. I lay there my entire set thinking, "I'm going to put more weight one!! Just wait!!!" Also, I hate talking at the gym. That's why I go alone more often than not.

  6. Hi! Just found your blog! Gyms... I teach at one but hate going to one! That's why I started Be Mom Strong- a online gym!
    Great post!

  8. We don't have a Planet Fitness too close by so I have to go to 24 Hour Fitness. I tried going to a Gold's for awhile too. It takes time to get comfortable in a new gym though.

I never go to the gym with makeup though I hardly ever put makeup on, and my skin is pretty bad. It has gotten better by working out though.

I also agree with you - I hate having to warm up with just the bar but you know what, you're bench pressing, something a lot of people don't do. So go you! And racing on the treadmill makes running much more fun. Otherwise, I would never do it!

  9. True, I don't see very many girls bench pressing. But everything I read says it works your chest but it also gives you amazing arms... so sign me up! ps.15 months ago I *was* only benching the bar and it was sooooo heavy!

  10. yeah, not into the chatty chat chatters at the gym (or anywhere else for that matter). I'm kind of unpleasant when I know I look awful and smell like a dead rat. Why invite you into that nasty bubble, too?

We had one (very nice) older gentleman who would ALWAYS talk to us when we got to the gym in the mornings in NH. (Hubs and I went together before work). We never exchanged names, he was just "Treadmill guy." Perfectly pleasant. I just never felt like I had anything valuable to say to him... he was much preferable to the teenaged boys who would SCREEEAAAMMMM as they lifted their heavy weights, drop them to the floor, and then stalk around the gym afterwards.

  11. I don't like going to the gym because I feel like people are looking at me and judging me (and racing me on the treadmill, haha)...I'd rather work out at home!

  12. "3. I am embarrassed when I do my bench press warm up set only using the bar."

Hahaha yes, this is ME! I hate when I am doing my warmup sets because I think so many girls at the gym lift extremely (obnoxiously?) light and I'm all I LIFT HEAVY AND I'M AWESOME. I always feel like an a-hole thinking it, but I can't help myself :)

    1. Glad to know I'm not the only one! I am just like you- priding myself in lifting heavy and not grabbing the 5lb dumbbells hehe.

  13. seriously for $10 if there was one right around here I would be all over it! i went to Gold's Gym for YEARS while I was running and totally out of my element with the heavy lifters but it was easy and that's what I needed :)

    1. It's definitely worth it if all you need is cardio machines and weights. There are no classes or anything "perks" (besides tanning, but I don't consider that a perk!). But yeah, $10 is great! Before I even lifted, I just kept my membership as a back up for treadmill running if the weather was bad.
