Life Lately...

Well, I wrote a post that was really complain-y about how I have been feeling, both physically and mentally. But I deleted it. I simply could not publish it. Because no matter how crappy I feel from time to time, I have no right to complain. I have a great life. And it took turning on the news Thursday afternoon to smack some sense into me. Maybe writing out the post and getting my feelings out was also cathartic in a way, but essentially I just needed a reminder that while my life is far from perfect, I have so many things to be thankful for and complaining would be asshole-y.

I am reminded of the song from Annie Get Your Gun....

Got no diamond, got no pearl,
Still I think I'm a lucky girl.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night.
Got no mansion, got no yacht,
Still I'm happy with what I got.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night

Sunshine gives me a lovely day,
Moonlight gives me the Milky Way.
Got no checkbooks, got no banks,
Still, I'd like to express my thanks.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night.
And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening
I'm alright.

Actually, I should change the lyrics to....

Got my Chrissy, got my Paul,
and with my Jelly I've got it ALL
I've got the sun in the morning
and the moon at night!

Seriously, if I have Paul and the cats, then life is good. And I have more than that. So life is really good.

Tell me something WONDERFUL about your life!

  1. It's a hard balance to know that it is OK to complain and not be happy and vent but then also realize all that you do have and how much worse it could be. Never deny yourself feeling down and at the same time, always remember how much you do have. Does that make sense? I hope so!

Wonderful in my life now: going to a reunion party tomorrow w/ the people I met at the yoga retreat in Tulum. I can't wait. These people are truly amazing.

Also, March Madness! We love college basketball so Sunday we'll have a date to go grab a beer and appetizers and watch a game at some sports bar!

    1. Yay it looks like you have a wonderful weekend planned! :) I hope you have a great time.

I agree it is a balance. I think sometimes though I shouldn't vent on my blog and maybe just vent to Paul or a close friend. Or maybe vent just a little on my blog as to not come across so negative or ungrateful, you know?

    2. But then again I want to show my true self, and if sometimes parts of me are negative and ungrateful I guess that is okay for people to know! I am not perfect.

    3. Girl--none of us are perfect and sometimes I think when we can hear others vent it actually makes us feel better about the venting we do. I think all your readers appreciate your total honesty: the good, the bad, the ups & the downs!!

  3. Wonderful in my life right now? It's Friday. Tomorrow I can sleep in (it's the little things, you know?). Also, a while back I really wanted a cute tote bag from my friend's shop but it was sold out, and this week she restocked it so I got one!! Whoo hoo!!

Like S Sharp said, there is a balance between knowing it could be worse and being absorbed in your own problems. We should all have perspective and try to be positive as much as possible, but it's not fair to deny yourself the right to feel bad just because it's worse somewhere else. There's ALWAYS someone who has it worse, so do none of us ever have the right to feel bad about anything? What I like to do in situations like this is I'll give myself a designated time - 1 day, 2 hours, whatever - to feel as bad as I want and rant and pout and whatever, and once that time is up I must let it go. Lets me acknowledge my feelings and get them out of my system so I can move on in a timely manner :)

I hope you feel better soon!!!

    1. I love what you do- giving yourself a time to wallow and then you suck it up and let it go. I am going to take your advice. I'm gonna allow myself to wallow a little more today but this afternoon, I am going to buck up and be happy. :)

  4. From time to time I also type out a really long negative post only to delete it. I really do think it's cathartic to write it out. I always feel better afterwards.

I hope you're able to take some time this weekend to do something that makes you feel positive again. If you're still not getting good sleep, I hope you get a good night's rest. I know I got terrible sleep this week and it put a damper on things for me. I think a good night's rest will help me reset. Tacos will likely come into play as well ;). Maybe you and Paul should go get a Blizzard tonight! haha

  8. I love the way you listed the fact that you have your cats and husband and that makes you happy!!!
Sometimes it really does help to write the negatives and vent about them -it is surprising how many of the negative things we deal with that others are going through similar things and it helps to hear how others deal with things sometimes. Or just knowing that you have a lot of support from friends might help:)
Hope your weekend is full of positive and happy times!
