Weekend Wrap Up!

Well, this weekend FLEW by. Nothing new is going on this week. It's just the same old, same old at work. Here's what we were up to this weekend!

This was a very special day because it was Chrissy's birthday! As soon as I got up, I gave him lots of kisses and told him what a big boy he is and how much I love him.

Work was fun! I had a 4th grade student earn her Black Belt in Recorder Karate, the 3rd graders sang from a Verdi opera, and 1st grade watched Elvis perform Jailhouse Rock. I am lucky I get to teach such a fun subject!

That afternoon, we had a family get together to celebrate my mom's birthday!

When I got home, Paul and I laid out our race day outfits.

Flat Megan!

Paul chose a loose fitting top to enable full range of motion when clapping.

Haha Flat Paul's shoes are on the wrong feet!

Race Day! My dad and I ran the Capitol 10-miler. If you want the long version, you can read my race recap. The short version is I ran 1:13:35, which was 65 seconds slower than what I wanted. I won't cry about it. I managed to be the 10th woman and 2nd in my AG. Dad ran a 1:19 and averaged sub 8 minute miles and got 4th in his AG! Lots of friends and family came out to cheer the runners on! I'm not worthy.

I felt pretty good the rest of the day. DOMs didn't set in until around midnight. Yes, I was up pretty late due to GAME NIGHT with our friends John and Jennifer.

My stomach was definitely weird for the rest of the day. I was hungry but there was nothing I really wanted to eat. It sucked because I love running hard, getting really hungry, and then eating ALL THE FOOD. It's weird being hungry but not wanting to eat. I was up past 3am. Oh boy, why did I do that?

Christmas slept under my arm all. night. long. It was sweet, but not that comfortable, so I can't say I slept very well! My quads were sore and there were 50mph winds so obviously I wasn't going to run today! I also did not feel like lifting, so it was a lazy rest day or me! Sometimes I feel guilty/fat/lethargic when I have a lazy, lay around day, but for some reason, I didn't have any of those feelings today. I just enjoyed it!

How was your weekend!?

  1. I can't believe you stayed up until 3am the night of your race! I am always so tired after a tough run. And even on my best day I struggle to stay up past 10pm. My weekend was good but traveling makes me tired. I'm not ready for Monday!

    1. I can't believe it either! I actually felt really good after the race, not tired or achy (sometimes my old ass joints hurt). Like I said, DOMs settled in late that night and I am still experiencing it! Going down steps HURTS.

  2. You do have a great gig. My next door neighbor just resigned from her music teaching position--she has 2 littles--and I still can't quite believe it!

    1. Wow! I can never give up my job unless I am content that I will never get it back. There aren't a whole lot of music teaching positions out there these days.

  3. Awwww Chrissy! Cecil loves to sleep on my back which is very uncomfortable but I think it's so sweet that I feel bad rolling over and knocking him off. I probably do at some point in the middle of sleep but I can't bring myself to do it on purpose (most of the time).

I'm glad you had a lazy Sunday! That rest was well earned after a great race and training cycle!

    1. Thanks Kristina! It felt great to just lay around.

We are so alike in our adoration for our kitties. They have us WHIPPED.

    2. Sleep vs. Cuddling with a cute kitty. I choose Kitty.

  4. Wow, I never realized how big Christmas was until you showed that pic of you holding him! (and I say "big" in a good way. I secretly want one of those really big bunnies...lol)

    1. LOL @ your secret wish for a big bunny! Yes, Christmas is HUGE. And it's not that he's fat (I mean he is carrying like 1-2 extra lbs) but he is looooong and just BIG. We knew he'd be big when he was a kitten cause his paws were freaking gigantic.

  5. Always remember that rest is an important part of training. I am actually glad you didn't do anything (even lift). Your body needs that time to replenish and recover. Plus, don't you love when the weather makes it easier not to workout?!? P.S. your mom is so on point with her style! Is she an artist? I love to see what she is wearing and wish I had a "style" like that!

    1. Yes she is an artist, she crochets and knits hats!!! hatsbypeach.com She made the hats my nieces are wearing but not Paul's jester hat. ;)

  6. What's with all the wind?! UGH! Glad you got that rest day in though. Your body must have needed it. Hope you're not too sore today.

    1. Quads are still sore! Steps are a problem. But of course I ran 5 miles this morning muhahaha!

  7. Looks like you guys had a great time! My kids used to love being slid around on the floor on various forms of blankets/sheets/anything you could pull! Easy entertainment!
DOMS are the pits. I have recently been able to stay away from them since starting a new type of BCAA...I am just hoping it stays that way for me.

    1. I know! And leave it to Uncle Paul to think of that! Glad you don't get DOMs much anymore. In a way I like it because I know I pushed myself, but on the other hand... STAIRS.

  8. Happy Birthday to the magnificent Chrissy! He's such a cutie! Congrats on a strong race and excellent finish place. Oh gosh recorder karate. I remember it well. So fun!

  9. I have the same problem after I run - I'm hungry but nothing sounds good. What do you typically eat after a race? Smoothies sometimes do it for me...

    1. I usually just eat whatever sounds good at the time. There have been races I have chugged apple juice right after. On Saturday, I ate half an Italian sub leftover from the night before, but the rest of the day, simply nothing sounded good.
