Christmas almost attacked our neighbor's cat on Tuesday.
Allow me to explain.
Our neighbor's cat, Burrito, is an indoor/outdoor cat. She is very sweet. I like her a lot. She is savvy too- always looking both ways before crossing the street.
But Burrito likes to taunt Christmas. When Christmas is gazing out the bay window, she will strut through the yard. This irritates Christmas. She is on HIS turf. He is the KING of Cumberland Road. There should be NO OTHER CATS on Cumberland Road. (Well, besides Jelly, but Jelly knows his role and that Christmas is the Alpha, so Jelly is okay in Christmas's book.)
Burrito is basically why Christmas pees in our house. He will run from window to window while she needles him, then he'll pee in the corner to show the universe HE is the BOSS.
When I got home from work on Tuesday, I opened the front door just a tad and put my hand down to block Christmas from running outside. He was too quick for me, and darted out of the house. When Christmas gets out, he does one of two things. Either he will run straight to the grass and start frantically eating it, or he will run into the driveway and start rolling around like crazy. That day, he ran across our neighbor's yard and started rolling around in their driveway.
I didn't run after him because I didn't want Christmas to keep running. I just walked briskly and as I passed my neighbor's front stoop, I noticed Burrito just sitting there, watching it all happen. She was such a good little girl. She just watched Christmas rolling around.
I was TERRIFIED Chrissy would see Burrito. I really think he would have attacked her had he known she was RIGHT THERE, less than 5 feet from him. Thank goodness Christmas is COMPLETELY self involved and was only focused on his own comfort and happiness. He was basking in his own pleasure, rolling around in that driveway.
Because of that, Burrito lives.
(Don't worry, I was ready to jump in front of the cats and take as many injuries as possible. No kitty cat was going to get hurt if I had anything to say about it.)
PS. Today, Christmas turns 9 years old! I can't believe he's 9 already. It's a little depressing. But he promised me he's going to live forever, so I know I have many more years with him!
Happy Birthday Chrissy Boy!!!!
ReplyDeleteMissy Ru Ru is 19 and still going strong. Christmas has many more birthdays and escape stunts ahead of him!
Awwww Missy! I request more FB pics of her, please! :)
DeleteAnother birthday! Happy birthday Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI know! My mom is thrilled to share her bday week with Christmas. ;)
DeleteToo funny that cat's name is burritto. That had me laughing.
ReplyDeleteI get so sad each Year Baylee has a Birthday. Not fair that our pets don't live as long as we do. Here'ss to another enjoyable year with your fur baby!
I agree! It sometimes makes me more sad than happy because I know he is getting older. But I am sure he likes his bday because he gets spoiled with extra treats and FANCY FEAST!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Christmas! 9 is fine :) OMG, I am so glad that situation didn't turn out terrible like it could have. That wouldn't have been fun to be a part of. Macy is also 9 and her b-day is Halloween. She's such an awesome dog--does my cool down walks with me and lays in the other room all day while I work (the spare bed is her bed). I call her my CCO (chief canine officer)
ReplyDeleteAw! I kindly request some Macy pics on FB. I don't think I have ever seen her??
DeleteLast week I posted a picture of her as a puppy and a picture of her now (it was national puppy day or something silly like that ...)
DeleteHAPPY BIRFDAY FUZZYPANTS!!! Hey, do you know the Skippy John Jones books? You must. If you haven't read them, go buy one for Christmas for his birthday!!! Love all their names btw. Burrito is hilarious! So cute.
ReplyDeleteNo I have never heard of them, I will check them out. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday Christmas!!! Cecil turns 9 years old this August :) I guess 2007 was the year that the best cats to ever exist were born!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that your neighbors named their cat Burrito. They must really like Mexican food!
I'm glad no fights broke out between the two! Our sliding glass doors open up to a enclosed courtyard where our neighbor sometimes lets her dog roam around. Cecil and the dog have some epic staring contests through the doors!
I bet they stare at each other HARD!! 2007 sure was the year of the cat!
DeleteI love both cat names! Happy Birthday, Christmas - good on ya for not killing Burrito...this time. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I would protect Burrito as if she were my own!
DeleteOh my gosh that was such an engaging story I was like I could not wait to see what was going to happen next! I'm glad neither cat got hurt in the making. Super Duper happy birthday to Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! :)
DeleteIt's harder when our fur babies get older...we know our time is limited with them! I'm still missing my Cleo.
ReplyDelete*Hugs*. I hear ya.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Christmas. It sounds like he is territorial, but not a dangerous cat. My cat Benny had this thing called redirected aggression where if he saw another cat (or dog) outside, he would get really aggressive and attack us (because he couldn't attack the trigger). It got to the point where it was really scary and unpredictable. I'm glad Christmas does not do that to you!
ReplyDeleteOh man that is sad and scary that Benny was like that! Christmas has actually attacked/bit me twice! He is sooooo territorial.
