This week.

Guys... this week... what a weird week!
Full of highs and lows...

On Monday, the students were horrid. I was rejuvenated from the weekend and honestly was not counting down the days until winter break. I was fine. Then the kids came to school and were like, "No, you're not fine! We're here to test your patience and make you feel like no one listens to a word you say!" It was a TOUGH day... The kind of day that makes you wonder if you can do this for another 22 years!

Monday sure didn't get any better. That evening I auditioned for Into The Woods at The Belmont Theater in York. I sang "Think of Me" from The Phantom of the Opera. Well, I sang 35 seconds of it (16 bars)  before the director and music director said "thank you" and smiled. I knew I wasn't going to hear back from them and I didn't.

Like I said, some good things happened this week. I got a brand new sound system for my music classroom! It is portable so I can take it places and use it at concerts! It's basically a speaker that is blue tooth enabled, so I can upload all my music onto my phone and just play it through the speaker. It also came with some wireless microphones- a handheld, headset, and lapel. I'm beyond excited to upgrade how I play music in my classroom. I am so sick of CDs and playing music through my computer. This speaker is powerful!

Hmmm... what else good happened? OH YEAH, Alabama DIDN'T elect an alleged pedophile to the US Senate. That was freaking awesome! It's amazing a democrat won in ruby red Alabama. I am happy about that but it also does sadden me that the race was as close as it was. Beyond the pedophilia allegations, the GOP candidate has said some TERRIBLE things and holds some extreme views.

Jelly and I celebrating the results on Wednesday morning!

On Friday evening, I had ANOTHER audition. Gettysburg Community Theater was holding auditions for Godspell. Godspell is one of my favorite shows because I love the music. I was in Godspell a couple years ago and played Joanne, who sings Day By Day. My audition at Gettysburg was really strange for a couple reasons. First of all, there was nowhere on the audition sheet to list your past theater experiences. (I also generally like to include that I have a degree in music so they know what I am going to be able to learn the music quickly.) Second, there was only about 15 people there (although more could have come the night before) and the director didn't ask any of us to stay and read from the script or sing for him again.

The whole thing took less than 45 minutes. I can only guess that maybe the director didn't think any of us were good enough and has other people in mind for the parts or will ask others to audition. Who knows!? I'm so confused.

And finally, the best part about this week is that it ENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!! One more week until winter break...

Tell me a high... or a low from the past week!

  1. Our schools already started winter break so I can only imagine how antsy your students are! I don't understand why those directors have to be so rude to you all. Geez-at least let you finish your song!! You know it's not like they are directing Oscar nominated films or anything. Good luck on the try outs hope one of them works out!

  3. That sound system looks powerful! I bet your students got excited when they saw it. Sorry they tested your patience this week. What I can tell you is that even in my job dealing with adults my patience still gets tested LOL. We are all in that boat together :D

When I woke up and saw the Alabama news I cried. I am on my period so extra emotional I guess, but also this has been such a tough year in American politics. It was nice to feel like something good happened, even if I can't believe how close the election was. I had previously said to Adam that I thought the only way Trump would be impeached was if something came out about pedophilia because Americans/humans love protecting kids, but as it turns out I am probably wrong. Apparently a lot of people will put their politics before kids and that's disgusting to me.

A good thing that happened this week is that yesterday I squatted 160lbs x 4 reps! That's double the reps of last week and I think I could have done 5. I should have went for it, I regret that, but still feel accomplished. After a year of not being able to do anything challenging (fitness wise) it feels good to do *something* even if it's not running related. I needed a win, so to speak.

Oh no, republicans will vote parts over pedophile every day of the week. Because, you know, abortion.

  5. What do they typically look for an audition? I think you are so brave to put your talent out there, and I hope your talent will be recognized.

    Those speakers look really awesome!

    1. Normally everyone sings, and then if it is a show with dancing, everyone learns a dance and does it in small groups. Then that night or a different night, they do "call backs" where they ask people to read for parts or possibly sing songs from the show so they can get an idea how your voice would do in a certain part.

I will say due to this being my 3rd audition in 2.5 weeks, I was a lot less nervous!
