Fun Fall Activities!

It seems that for me, one of the main reasons I skip out on doing my planned fall activities is that on the weekends, I am too tired to have the desire to do anything but lay around at home! Paul and I are "go, go, go" during the summer, but it's easier then because I don't work. (I know, I know, welcome to the land of the living, Megan, the land where PEOPLE WORK!) But I'm just being honest!

So... provided I have the energy... here are some of the local fall activities Paul and I would like to do! It looks like we have about 10 weeks to cross these things off our list!

1. The Great Gratz Fair. This is a yearly tradition in my family. Have you ever been to Gratz, PA? Probably not! But it hosts a fair that we went to growing up.

2. Wine tastings in Gettysburg, Hunter's Valley Winery, and Armstrong Valley Winery's Fall Festival, and Schuylkill Wine Festival in Hegins. I know, that's a lot of wine! WHO WANTS TO GO WITH US? You know you do...

3. Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Paul and I visited Jim Thorpe this summer, but we did not do the Scenic Railway. We were saving it until we'd be able to see some fall foliage.

4. Run some races! Yes, I have some scheduled! Check out this post to see my plans!

5. Backyard fire pits. This one is great because not only is it free, but it also is something I can do in my pjs!

6. Hallo-Fun at Knoebels! You know I love Knoebels. Hopefully we can get there one more time this year before they close for the season.

7. Mifflinburg's Oktoberfest. We went to Christkindl Market last year and it was so cold. This year, I was thinking we could try Oktoberfest in the fall.

8. National Apple Harvest Festival. This one is a big maybe. We have wanted to go here since it's a HUGE thing in Central PA... but it's just so crowded! And you have to take a shuttle bus... It's just such a rigamarow! Anyone local ever go to this? Is it worth the hassle?

Wow, I actually have a little anxiety looking at all of this! Who am I kidding. I probably won't do any of this and just sit in my jammies every weekend.
Do you have any fun fall plans?
Local peeps, what am I missing?

  1. Really fun things planned. We have 2 fall trips planned and for Colorado we will take a scenic, motorcycle ride to see the fall colors; I would like to go apple picking; football games; backyard fire pits and maybe "Creepy Walk in the Woods" for Halloween (yikes).

  2. I'm going to look up that apple harvest festival since I've never heard of it. Can you believe I've never been to the Mifflinburg Octoberfest? Maybe this year i'll check it out. There are so many fall activities to do but like you I end up being too exhausted from the week and just want to hang out at home. There is a local corn maze here and one day they have it open to dogs and I'd like to take Baylee but even though I put flea and tick meds on her I still worry about taking her other places that are grassy/woodys/ cornfield. IDk...do you think it's safe?

    1. I think she would LOVE the corn maze! If she has flea and tick meds, what's the harm? Call your vet and ask. I'd take my cats if they would walk on a leash! ;)

  3. I am looking forward to hopefully two trips to Cedar Point for Halloweekends. Hope you make it to Knoebels! (btw, how do you pronounce that name??)
My fall weekends will pretty much be cross country meets, races, and camping! Which I love, but it leaves us for no rest time. I guess we rest in November!
The leaves would be beautiful on that train ride. Do it!

    1. Good question: Kuh-no-bulls
Do you guys ever rest? No. :) But I know you wouldn't have it any other way!

  4. There's a pumpkin farm in Erie that has a fall festival starting in September. I'm planning to go there at the end of September with some family and friends. They take you on a hay ride out to their pumpkin patches.

  5. You know I'm going to Highly recommend the Apple festival, because I love it!! They should pay me to write reviews for them online, and promote them on social media.

It's not in the fall, but this year I'm going to the Mushroom festival in Kennett Square pa. because I can't believe I liked in Chester County for a long time, and never went to the festival.

    1. Well then give me some hacks for the Apple Harvest Festival because the one year we tried to go the traffic was sooooo bad. And then when we got there and Paul realized we'd have to take a shuttle, he refused to get on the shuttle!

A mushroom festival? Never heard of such a thing! I googled it- wow there is a lot to do!

  6. This is a great list!

Since we just bought a house this year I am most excited for participating in fall holidays - handing out candy to trick or treaters and finally hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas. Backyard fire pit is on my list too - we did one this summer but I LOVE them in the fall when the fire keeps you warm!

    1. Having a house does make fall more fun! You can get a fall wreath and a mum for your front stoop. ;)

  7. Your area looks like so much fun in the Fall. I wish we had Fall festivals and things here- we do have some, but it's just so hot outside (still) that it's not fun. The last two years, our Fall has been marked with hurricanes which has made it less festive. I hope that doesn't happen this year and we can really enjoy it.

My favorite thing each Fall is going to football games. Go Gamecocks!

    1. I remember last year you had to evacuate, right? I hope this fall has much calmer weather for you. I am glad I live somewhere we actually get 4 different seasons. PA is beautiful in the fall. I am probably the only person who doesn't have football on my list! I'm not a football fan but Paul is excited for the NFL season to start!
