Weekend Wrap Up

Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Here's what we were up to...

I woke up at 5:00 and violently coughed until 7:00. Every time I almost fell asleep, my coughing would wake me up. It wasn't fun. But at least I didn't feel like I was swallowing glass anymore.

If only I could sleep as easily as this baby.

Before even getting out of my jammies, I checked on a cute little kitty cat I was looking after for the weekend. Percy hid under the bed while I was there. Maybe tomorrow he would be my friend!

When I got home, Paul and I watched the eviction episode of Big Brother from the night before. I thought Julie's outfit was flawless but others did not like her asymmetrical top!

Jelly was rooting for Swaggy C.

Paul and I headed to the gym around noon for a short workout. My shoulder has been nagging me for months but I think it is finally healed! Although now that I put that thought out in the universe, I am sure it will start hurting again...

Later that night, Paul and I went out and about. First we went to Kohl's because I had a 30% off coupon and a $5 gift card. I tried on 16 clothing items, looked at jewelry and shoes, but couldn't find anything I wanted! So Paul got a t-shirt and we got two new bath towels for the ground total of $7.50.

One of the items of clothes I tried on were those high waisted, very short cut off jean shorts that are all the rage right now. Guys, I have never felt more 36 in my life than in that moment. No pictures. It's too embarrassing.

The shorts were similar to these:

I liked some of the clothes I tried on but not enough to purchase.

Then we headed to to Gettysburg because we wanted to check out the ciders at Reid's. When we were in Vermont, I got into ciders. Reid's had a pretty large flight for $10. I tried their sweetest ones and found three I really liked. I didn't drink the whole flight because that was a lot of cider!

While we tasted, we played cards. We love cards!

Before driving home, we enjoyed some fine dining at Wendy's! We don't eat fast food much, but when we do, it's Wendy's!

Paul and I listen to podcasts in the car. Today, we listened to an episode of Stuff You Should Know called How Condoms Work. IT WAS FASCINATING. I mean, I know how condoms work, but they went into more details like what condoms were like in ancient times, and how governments all over the world buy condoms and resell them at a lower price so they are accessible to as many people as possible. They also talked about how they're made and tested. You should really check out the Stuff You Should Know podcast, especially because the hosts, Josh and Chuck, are hilarious.
Well, that was a terrible night of sleep. Laying down caused me to violently cough again. I coughed from 11-1:30 before I finally fell asleep. I woke up at 3:30 and coughed until 4:30. Then I managed to fall asleep until 7:15.

I was quite tired when I woke up. There was a 10 mile trail race penciled into my calendar but while I fully planned to run today, I determined I was in no shape to commit to ten miles. Lack of sleep + second day of my period + getting over strep made me err on the side of caution. I was bummed.

But there was no choice but to take on the day. I poured some coffee and then headed out to check on P-Dizzle. (Percy) He didn't hide under the bed. Instead, he peered at me from behind the couch for like 10 minutes straight. I could tell he was conflicted about whether or not to be my friend...

Then in an act of defiance, I ran 10 miles. More on that run tomorrow.

After that, I popped over to the mall to pick up the pottery my niece and I made last week. My pineapple turned out well!

I did some browsing but didn't buy anything. I loved this dress but it was $22 and I didn't need it so I passed.

I saw these awesome jeans at American Eagle. Ali wore them on her blog and I liked them a lot. I couldn't bring myself to pay $60 for them though because I didn't need them. I have plenty of pants and I don't even wear all of them.

Look at the shoes I found at Payless. They were $10. I totally would have worn these in high school! Are they back in style now? I don't think so!

We had a late 4th of July picnic at my uncle's to attend that evening. I improvised and made a Mexican quinoa salad. In it was corn, black beans, tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, salt, pepper, garlic, and cumin. Basically, I used my guacamole recipe but instead of avacado, I used quinoa and black beans.

Quinoa is bottom right.

It was so fun to see my family at the picnic. We got to see Aunt Jane's new Japanese Garden and Uncle Rick set off fireworks.

 My fabulous aunts!

About an hour before the fireworks were going to start, Paul said to me, "Rick asked me to help with the fireworks so I'm going to do that."

"No you're not!" I said instantly.

"No, Paul," My mom told him.

The wife and mother-in-law spoke! Someone else helped.

**Note: These were BIG fireworks!**

I slept so much better thanks to an OTC cough suppressant! I did my last check on Percy. He stayed under the bed. Oh well, someday Percy will be my friend!

It was a dreary day, so Paul and I hit up Planet Fitness.

Then we checked out the Old Sledworks in Duncannon. It is now an antique place.

We had this glass when I was a kid!

A payphone is an antique!?

Super cute music stand.

 They had a vintage arcade!

This little 50s burger shop used to actually serve food but I guess not anymore.

I had one of these when I was a kid! It was from a Happy Meal.

We had this Town & Country wagon too.
In fact, my Auntie Eileen was pulling me and my brothers in it and dumped us into the street by accident!

I ended up getting a bunch of puzzles (not antiques) and started them as soon as I got home.

After dinner, we watched Big Brother! Then it was time to go to bed and read a book get on reddit. :)
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!
Do you like cider?
Big Brother fans: Who are you rooting for this season?
Would you let your husband help with fireworks?

  1. I have an Aunt Jane and Uncle Rick too! What card games do you and Paul play? I love cards but don't know any good 2 people games.

    1. We play Monopoly Deal, Casino, and Rummy. They're so fun!

  2. I love your dress that you wore to the cider place!

I remember passing the sled works every day on my way to work and back home (when I worked down that way) but never went in.

We have a similar shop near here and my one friend and I use to browse around and look for stuff we had as kids or stuff we remember our grandparents having. It was quite fun to go down memory lane!

    1. Thank you! It is sooooo comfy and that type of material you can throw into a suitcase and it doesn't wrinkle. I wear it to work sometimes with back leggings underneath (because it's SHORT).

It is so fun to see things from childhood that you know you would have NEVER remembered on your own unless someone showed it to you. I would have never remembered that glass except for that I saw it at the antique place.

  3. I'm 33 and shorts are a struggle! I usually go almost knee length and feel older than I am, but I just bought a shorter pair and now feel like I'm trying too hard to be young, haha.

Love the pineapple, and love the floral tank and jumper! I know you didn't buy them, but I like your style.

I watched a friend compete in her first Muay Thai fight this weekend! That was pretty cool.

    1. It is hard in your 30s! Especially if you have an athletic body and want to show it off without looking like you're trying to be 16.

Thank you! The jumper looks better in the picture. It didn't fit quite right in person, but I liked how it looked on the hanger! I liked the tank as well but it was too expensive and I didn't need it.

I had to google Muay Thai. Rad!!

  4. Your pineapple came out great! It looks just like all the ones in the stores!

I would have worn sandals like those black ones back in the day too. Actually I'm pretty sure I did have an exact replica at one point. IDK if shoes with that big of a platform are back in but I know "slides" are. And jellies are back in bizarrely enough.

I'm sure Adam would have helped with the fireworks. I can't tell him what to do because I don't want him to ever tell me what to do... but sometimes if I wish I could I will say something like, "I would never want Cecil to help with the fireworks" or conversely he would say "I don't care if you help with the fireworks but would you really want to leave Cecil without a mother if something happened?" We're not the most normal couple out there.

    1. I think you found a sly little way to tell him your wishes without it being you TELLING him. However, while I am THOROUGHLY an independent woman and Paul is an independent man, I think when safety is concerned, I'm okay with us speaking up! Oh, I actually tell him what to do when we're at vistas on our hikes. I make a line and tell him he can't cross it because he will be too close to the edge. LOL.

  5. What a fun weekend! I am glad the OTC stuff is helping with that cough. Oh, I love going to antique or flea markets and looking at old stuff. You can just walk around and remember all these things from childhood! We had a full weekend -- afternoon cocktail on Friday afternoon downtown, Harley ride + old town Fort Collins on Saturday and Rockies game on Sunday. I love being out and having fun on the weekends (while still having downtime at home, too). I can't really tell Rick what to do -- like Christina said with Adam, I don't want Rick to tell me what to do. I can make suggestions or tell him how I feel about things but at the end of the day, he has to make his own decisions. But I totally respect that you told Paul no and he didn't do it! That's wonderful.

    2. You and Rock always have fun weekends! I normally don't tell Paul what yo do either because I don't want him to tell me what to do, but apparently fire works is where I draw the line!

    3. You value Paul's life! I, on the other hand, would not want Adam to have a chance to tell me what to do since I told him what to do, so I would let him risk his life. That's probably why Paul married you and Adam just lives with me LOL!

  6. I have one pair of jean shorts, and of course I can't remember where I got them. They're a good length without being too long. It's hard to shop for 30's since I feel stuff is either too young or too old.

    1. I agree, 30s is a weird age. Especially if you have an athletic body and want to show it off, but not look like you're trying to be 16!

  7. I was shopping for clothes at the mall this past weekend, but my jiggly belly did not look good on dresses... it made me want to give up carbs, until i passed the Auntie Ann's pretzels, and remember I love carbs.

Cider is like beer, right? Which one did you like best?

That pineapple turned out great, what are you going to use it for?

    1. Flat stomachs are so overrated. I want carbs more than I want a six pack! I hope you enjoyed every bite of your Auntie Annes!

The ciders I like do NOT taste like beer. Some ciders do taste like beer though. I liked the peach cider and one of the apple ciders. :)

I have nooooooooooo idea what to use the pineapple for! I really don't have any use for it lol.

  8. That flowery shirt looks pretty cute, but I hear you, I don't purchase many items anymore unless I really, really LOVE them and have to have them. Just "like" doesn't cut it anymore.

We almost never eat fast food either, but if we do, it's Wendy's or In&Out (which I think doesn't exist on the East Coast).

    1. You are right, no In & Out Burger.

Earlier this summer, we did a huge purge of things and got rid of "stuff", so it is hard for me to buy more stuff unless I really love it.

  9. I definitely had a pair of those shoes in high school. I refuse to believe they are back in style! But then I keep seeing other things that were in fashion when I was in high school....
