A Day in My Life

This Day in the Life is a little late. I'm documenting Monday, July 9th!

When I woke up, the sore throat and headache I had the night before were still there. I felt very crappy. It was not a good thing because I had errands to run, a house to clean, and packing to do. The first thing on my to do list was go to the DMV to get a new DL picture. Let's just say I didn't want to get out of bed...

But off I went. I was out the door not even 15 minutes after getting up. I figured it would be better to just take on the day, do everything I needed to, and then crash later.

Surprisingly, I didn't have to wait at all at the DMV! The only wait time was the 2 minutes it took to print my new license!

Then it was off to the library to return some books... ON TIME. I felt like the queen of the world since I managed to not accumulate late fees on these. I read the first half of A Small Indiscretion but then stopped because I just couldn't get into it. (Sorry Kristen, I tried, I swear!) I didn't read the other book.

Off I went to Aldi. Aldi has always been awesome, but they are really stepping up their game with household items and toiletries. I found tampons that are even cheaper than Dollar General! $3.89 for a 36 count!!!!

Cringe worthy name though...

And I saw this gem...

I guess whoever gets this at Aldi chalks it up to an impulse buy!?

This summer, I stopped using plastic bags. I am now ADDICTED to not using plastic. Even if I forget my bags, I shove everything in my big purse. A couple days ago, the cashier at Wal Mart did not think I could fit all of my items in it, but I proved her wrong.

Then I popped in Dollar General for hair dye. I also ended up getting some new eye shadow. I haven't bought new eye shadow in years. Honestly, I don't know how to apply it. Luckily, there were instructions on the back.

I tried it out as soon as I got home. I think I need help.

By now it was after 10:00 and I hadn't eaten breakfast yet. So I made a bologna sandwich with veggie straws and a peach.

Then I poured another coffee and sat down with my baby to do some blogging.

Soon, I couldn't put it off anymore, and I had to clean the house. Luckily, Paul agreed to vacuum, so it didn't take me too long to tidy up, dust, and wipe down the kitchen and bathroom. I had some good podcasts to listen to. I don't know what I would do without podcasts!

Then I dyed my hair and let it simmer while I packed for our trip to NYC the next day.

I wasn't sure what dress I wanted to wear to see the Broadway show Beautiful, so I packed two dresses and to pairs of shoes. I'll decide when I'm there!

Spoiler Alert: I wore the leopard print and the flats!

At some point, I had a piece of chicken, Greek yogurt, and carrots for lunch, but I forgot to take a picture.

Finally, everything on my to do list was complete. I curled up on the couch to write this blog post and finish our itinerary for NYC.

Then Paul and I watched television. I ate a big 'ol salad for dinner and went to bed early. I still wasn't feeling well. (Turns out I had strep!)
Do you return your library books on time?
Are you good at putting on eye shadow?
How do you do with the plastic bag thing?

  1. I always return my library books on time. However, I borrowed some wallpaper books this month and I did not realize there was a return date on them and I was a few days late. I had 6 books and the fine was potentially $50 each. Thank goodness they did not charge me!

I actually rent most of my library books online now. I do a lot of audiobooks. Since you love podcasts you should check out downloading audiobooks. It's such a time saver!

    1. WOW that's a huge fine! Thank goodness they didn't charge. I will look into audiobooks, thanks for the idea. :)

  2. Megan - I totally understand - I have tried to read books that people recommend and I am like, what were they thinking? this stinks! I'll try to come up with some other titles for you!
I have been wearing full eye makeup since I was in high school - so about 34 years! so I like to think of myself as an expert! LOL! enjoy your day! Kristen

  3. You just need to blend the eyeshadow and it will look fine! I would use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend it out good. Blend blend blend until all the hard lines are gone and you will be all set!

We always bring reusable bags to the grocery store but I always forget when I go regular shopping. I just need to make it a HABIT. I wish it was forced upon us like in England. When I went to Boots (their version of like CVS) they didn't even offer me a bag. I think if you want a plastic bag you have to pay for it.

    1. Regarding plastic I saw an article the other day about how as a country we're not focused enough on the actual solution for plastic consumption. For example, how Starbucks is changing their cups so they no longer have plastic straws ... but the new cups use more plastic than if we just used straws. And how we see images of turtles with straws up their nose, but getting rid of straws and just using more plastic doesn't help because most plastic will get broken down in the ocean and the bits of plastic will still get ingested and do as much damage.

I think we need campaigns that encourage people to remember their reusable bags and to bring their own cups to coffee places... and to charge extra for plastic. I know paying extra would remind me that I should bring my own stuff.

I also should take personal responsibility to just remember my bags to begin with.

    2. Thanks for the eye shadow tip! I will look for a brush. Does it have to be an eye shadow brush or are some make up brushes for just general use?

I think certain states are phasing out bags. When we went to Vermont and I bought something they said, "Do you need a bag?" and they said it in a way in which it seemed like they thought I would say no. I said no, of course. At Aldi you have to pay for bags. We stopped getting straws when we go out. That's our new thing!

Reusable coffee cups would be CLUTCH! There was a time Dunkin only charged 99 for a coffee if you brought your own cup.

    3. Really? Yes we need to go back to that! I would bring my biggest cup for a 99c coffee haha!

I would use a brush specifically for eyeshadow blending. Here is one they have at Ulta if you still have your gift card, if not they also carry this brand at Target. I don't have this specific brush but I do have a couple of their brushes and they are decent. They can sometimes be harsh though so I would feel the hairs before buying to make sure it won't irritate your eyes.

    4. Well I believe the cup has to be a certain size!

Thanks for the brush rec! I got my Dollar General brush before I saw your comment, but luckily they look like the same size so hopefully it will work just as well!

I do still have my Ulta gc. Just didn't get there yet. I want to go when I have time for them to do my makeuP!

  4. I was really into not using plastic bags, and I try not to, but then we got a bunch of foster kittens and needed to scoop litter a million times a day (no joke), so we needed the bags. Our garage sale also needed us to hoard bags, so we could give them to customers.
It's a super rare occasion that I wear eye shadow. I can't even remember the last time I bought some!

    1. Once in awhile when we get a plastic bag, we are excited because there ARE things we can use them for. Like for dirty clothes when going on vacation!

  5. Here in California, plastic bags have been banned and you now have to pay for reusable bags when you go to the store if you don't bring your own. In the beginning we were constantly buying bags as we would never remember to bring them, so we've accumulated quite a collection. Now, I keep about 6-8 of them in my purse plus a stash of them in my trunk so that I always have them on me. But, we also found that we still needed the plastic bags for other tasks (cleaning up dog poop, lining the bathroom trash cans, misc household chores/clean up) so I ended up buying a batch of 100 from Amazon so that we always have some on hand.

    1. Sounds like you have hacked the plastic/reusable bag thing! I agree, there are some useful things for plastic bags. We use them for dirty wash when we go on vacation.

  6. I do return my books on time. You need to know something about me: I absolutely HATE paying any kind of fees...even small ones! LOL. I am glad you told me about the show since Rick and I will be going in about 6 weeks. I cannot wait. I pretty much just wear one solid color of shadow and then put a little bit along the lash line so it kind of looks like 'eyeliner' (I think....). I am always amazed at how well some ladies do with their eyes. I am very plain and basic!

    1. I'm very plain and basic with makeup too.

Think of all the money you save by not paying fines!

I never pay interest on my credit card or fees for not paying on time. And I never pay like data overuse charges on my phone. I guess I'm against the BIG fees!

  7. I love the "a day in my life"-posts. Thanks for sharing. I use the exact same hair color to dye my hair at home. Mainly for some shine and gloss as it's pretty close to my actual hair color.

I think you did a pretty good job with the eye-shadow. I am so useless when it comes to eye makeup, LOL
