Weekend Wrap Up!

Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Here's what we were up to...

It was so cold on Friday morning that we had a two hour delay! That means school starts two hours later than normal. Of course I woke up at my normal time (habit), but I did have extra time to drink coffee and chill before going to the gym.

Doesn't it look cold!?

Besides being really tired, I was starting to feel better. I was barely coughing and there was not as much mucus as before. As bad as Mucinex tastes, it must work.

I ran on the treadmill and played around with the speed. I wouldn't call it speed work but I did more than just run "la la la". I listened to an Anderson Cooper podcast, some music from Godspell, and then my FAVORITE song to run to...

Have you seen The Book Of Mormon? It is hilarious!

I have to include these before/after shots of me. Before I hit the gym and after I was all ready for work!

Except for one meltdown from a 1st grader, the day went well. I did activities that didn't require me talking or singing because I am on vocal rest. (Isn't that such a diva thing?)

After work, I stopped at Jiffy Lube because my shocks were making a TON of noise when I go over bumps. Paul did some calling around to garages and it seems like a normal thing to happen to an old car when it is cold out. Well, Jiffy Lube had a different opinion and thought my struts needed fixed... to the tune of $700! So time to find a second opinion... aka my dad and my Pappy! Stay tuned. Hopefully it's just making noise due to the frigid temps.

Then I had to drag my tired ass to Aldi because we had NO FOOD in our house. I loaded us up and when I got home, Paul unpacked it all for me so I could relax and kiss the kitties.

Look at all those peppers! I'm making stuffed pepper casserole!

Then Paul made us a yummy pasta dinner! I made hors d'oeuvres... Did you ever make these yummy cucumber squares? Rye bread, mayo, cucumber, and paprika. So good!

We cracked open a bottle of wine from Broad Mountain....

Dinner was in front of the television watching Colbert. He didn't have any new shows for about two weeks so it was nice to have Colby back in our lives! I went to bed before 8 o'clock....

... and slept for 12 hours! Dang, I am amazing!

I took my time waking up and doing my favorite Saturday morning activities...

1. Cuddling the kitties.
2. Drinking coffee.
3. Watching CNN.
4. Blogging.

I don't like labels.

Eventually, I headed to the gym. I wanted to run fast or long, or SOMETHING. I ended up running 10 miles, mostly at an easy pace and about 40% of it at a challenging pace. While I ran, I watched part of a movie (Before I Fall), Lady Gaga's Superbowl Halftime Show, and listened to some music from The Book of Mormon and Godspell. Who am I!? Running on the treadmill AND listening to music!?

10 miles was all I could do. I was spent. I stretched for awhile after, then headed home for a shower, a chocolate protein shake, and a bologna and cheese sandwich!

Then I headed out and about to get more Mucinex, and to look for some clothes at Good Will, Community Aid, and TJ Maxx. I needed some clothes to dance in for Godspell. I don't really have comfortable clothes other than my crappy/smelly workout gear. So I got a couple dry tech short sleeve shirts and some dry tech capris. I also got a new gym bag because mine has a HUGE hole in it. I am loving this bag!

I'm not one for name brands, but this was only $16.99!
I looked for gym bags at the thrift stores first but they didn't have any.

Oh, my other good find was this INSANELY WARM jacket from Goodwill. It was from the little boy's section and it was a large. $5.00. WHAT A STEAL!!!!

A trip to the thrift stores is not complete without some puzzles!

Then I made stuffed pepper casserole and roasted chickpeas. Paul was out watching football with his friends, so I was a little lonely.

I took my car to my dad's work and someone he works with took a look at the struts. He says my car is just making noise because it's so cold out. WHEW!

Then I went for a 14 degrees run. Guys, 14 degrees is WARM for us around these parts... these days anyway! I have enough good cold weather gear that I wasn't cold at all.

That night I had my first Godspell rehearsal in Gettysburg. I had so much fun! Guys, I am so excited to perform again! I met a lot of great people and I got assigned the song Day by Day and the duet By My Side to sing! I am BEYOND THRILLED!!! I can't wait to begin learning the music.
Did you ever have to take Mucinex? Isn't it gross?
Any good thrift stores near you?

  1. I think medicine in general is gross! The least companies could do is have it taste good if we already feel bad. Sounds like a pretty good weekend. Isn't it funny how this time of year 14 degrees feels so warm?! It's going to be right below freezing for me today and I can't wait! It'll feel amazing haha.
Congrats on getting two songs! So exciting!

    1. Thanks, Maureen! I'm super excited. I don't think I have had liquid meds since I was a kid so I was surprised at how disgusting this stuff was...

  2. Did you know that over our way we have a large community aid store that "Supposedly" is the largest Thrift store in the Country? It was put in a building that use to be a Value City store, remember those? That was pretty clever of you to look in the boys section for a coat. I wouldn't have thought of that. If it's going to continue to be cold I need to shop for some heavy sweaters!

    3. So good to know! I used to go to that Value City. It is a big building. Maybe Paul and I will have to do a road trip.

    4. I remember when that store used to be a Value City!! I spent hours there, not really looking for anything.

  3. I saw people on instagram cheering for the Buffalo team... I might be calling them the wrong name? ... isn't that Paul's team?

My car's breaks were not working with how cold it was. I had to warm it up for 10 minutes before driving, or my breaks wouldn't work, it was very scary.
I really admire how much you can do when you are sick!! you are still out there fully active and doing all your work and chores! I hope you are feeling better.

    1. Yup, Paul is a Buffalo Bills fan. That is so scary about your brakes. How did you know they weren't working? I will say by Saturday I was feeling A LOT better. Please believe me when I tell you I did jack crap for several days before that!

  4. We saw the traveling Book of Mormon when it came here. You should go, it's really funny!

    1. I'm glad you got to see it! I saw the national tour twice. The second time, I took Paul and he freaking loved it.

  5. I LOVE Godspell! I'm excited you get to sing Day by Day! That is awesome! Kudos to you running in 14 degree weather. I barely leave my house, even by car, in that kind of weather! BRR! LOL

    1. If you have the right gear, it's not so bad running in the cold!

  6. You're the first American I see who eats that whole grain rye bread (I love it, it's a staple in our household... well, because it's a German-style bread!). It's so filling and have I mentioned, good for you?!!!

Good job on the 10 miler on Saturday...

    1. I honestly only get it for these cucumber squares. Mom mom made them all the time growing up, she would use the mini rye bread. This rye I found at Aldi and just cut it up into smaller pieces. Any other good tips on how to eat the rye? It IS filling.

  7. I'm so excited for you about your role in Godspell! Will Paul be able to film some of it from the audience for us to see? :)

14 degrees sounds dangerous!! I think I would freeze in place!

I'm glad you didn't have to spend $700 on your car! I think my car is going to need new tires soon. I hate expenses like that - the kind that seemingly come out of no where and are just annoying because they aren't things you really enjoy. I mean I enjoy a safe driving experience but you know what I mean!

    1. Yes I know what you mean! I needed 4 new tires last year and it is expensive. But, when my dad's friend looked at my struts on Sunday, he said, "You have really nice tires" and I was like... awwww someone finally complimented the tires I spent so much money on hahaha!!!

  8. There are gyms that let you run for 10 miles on a treadmill? I've had a 30 minute limit on every gym I've ever been to! It was one of the reasons I gave my grandparents for why I (and not my other cousin) should get their treadmill when they stopped using it! Very jealous!

    1. I'm not sure how all Planet Fitnesses are, but at mine there is no rule about how long to be on a treadmill. They only are programmed up to 60 min so you do have to restart it. There are so many cardio machines at my gym and they have NEVER all been used. Maybe that is why they don't have a time limit?

  9. Glad the struts are OK. My brakes were squeaking this summer, but the dealership said they're working fine, and the brake pads are in good condition. I think it's just because Colorado is so dry compared to Dallas.

  10. My favorite way to eat the rye bread is with gouda cheese, a touch of mayo, tomatoes, onions, salt and pepper. We just had that for dinner last night.
