Runfessions!

Today I am participating in Marcia's Runfession's link up! Be sure to visit her blog and check out some of the other bloggers who are Runfessing today!

I don't have a whole lot to Runfess, but let's see what I can pull out of my ass today...

Runfession #1: For years and years, 5 miles was the shortest distance I would run for a workout. When I was doing the Hansons plan, I never ran anything shorter than 6 miles. Now that I ditched the plan, I have switched back to having 5 miles as my base running distance. It sort of messed with my head the first couple times. 5 miles seemed so short. But now I have embraced it! I am honestly ready to be done after 40-45 minutes of running.

Runfession #2: Yesterday I worked out at home and did sit ups on my stability ball. As I was doing them, I suddenly became terrified that my stability ball would pop and I would go crashing to the floor! Do you ever worry about this when you're on a stability ball? I was convinced I'd hit my head and be knocked out.

Runfession #3: I wish I had quit marathon training sooner. I am so happy and I feel good physically. I can't believe I wasted my whole summer being unhappy about that situation. The cool part is that my brother is running a half marathon on the day I was supposed to run my full. And the day before that, my other brother is running a trail race and has stated he is going to WIN IT. (I am inclined to believe him!) So I am extremely happy that I get to spend the weekend cheering on my brothers!

Runfession #4: You know how they say that one way to curb late night snacking is by brushing your teeth so you don't eat anything else? Well, last night after I finished my Blizzard (second night in a row for Blizzards!) I not only brushed my teeth but I rinsed with mouthwash. No more snacking, right? Wrong. About two hours later I got out the party mix. I can just brush my teeth again, duh!
Do you have something you want to Runfess?

  1. I am so glad you are happy with your decision about marathon training! Usually my shortest run is 3 miles, or 30 minutes. I was laughing about the stability ball because I get weird thoughts like that too-now I am probably also going to worry that my stability ball will pop!

    1. We should start surrounding our stability balls with pillows, just in case!

  2. I am so happy to hear how good you feel. That is wonderful news, Megan. I hope both your brothers kick ass on their races and I am confident you will cheer really loudly for them! I totally get the fear of the ball popping. I often think about things like falling down stairs as I am going down them (or falling up them...because yes, it happens to me sometimes). Happy Friday!!

    1. How did you know I am a loud cheerleader? I have a piercing voice. Maybe I will borrow some classroom instruments to make some noise for them as well!

Falling up steps? You are talented!!! ;)

  3. How did I miss that you ditched your marathon plan? I know that's a tough decision to make so good on you! I too am wavering on the fall marathon front. I never worried about an exercise ball popping but I saw one do exactly that once to a kid. Yikes! Thanks for linking!

    1. What it actually happens!? Now I am doubly scared. Thanks for hosting, Marcia! Have a great weekend. :)

  4. I'm glad that you are happy with the decision about not running the marathon. I think it's great that you'll have your brothers to cheer for that weekend!

  5. 5 miles is my jam right now. I'm heading to 6, which is my baseline. So far so good...I do miss some LSD, tho.

  6. I don't worry that I'll hit my head from the stability ball, but I have fallen on the ground before. I know that means I just need to work on my core, but I'm wobbly.

    1. Stability balls are great for core work. I think mine needs blown up a bit more though. It's a little soft.

  7. K, this post was so funny. I love how honest you are. I think it's so great that you're going to have time and energy to spend cheering on your brothers that weekend! 5 miles is the shortest run I do too; it's not worth dirtying up laundry for less than 5. Ha ha!!! I'm such a dork.

    1. 5 is a nice round number. Maybe that is why I stuck with it for so many years. I'm glad I made you laugh, I couldn't think of anything important to write about today!

  8. Now I will have the fear of the ball popping next time I'm sitting on it!

My fear is that the pull up bar that we put on the door will snap off the door frame when I do pull ups.... then I tell myself that if Roger who is bigger than me doesn't pull it off, then my weight doesn't even touch it. Then I tell myself that maybe Roger's weight loosen it up and I will be the one who pulls it off!!

Now you got me craving a blizzard!

    1. I am afraid of my pull up bar too!!! I wasn't for years, but then Paul used it (who obviously weighs like 60-70lbs more than me) and part of the frame loosened a TEENY bit. What do you think would hurt more? The crashing pull up bar or the popping stability ball? Hmmm I think we have a new question for my "would you rather" quiz!

  9. Yes! It's like I set the bar at 6 and at first when I stopped at 5 I didn't feel finished. I am glad I am starting to feel done at 5. :)

GO GET ON A BALL, KAREN!

  10. I should do a runfessions linkup someday because I have a few to confess. It seems like 6 miles is my base distance now and last night I only ran 4 and that felt a little weird... but I don't blame you to cut back to 5 which is still really good especially as you're not training for a full anymore.

Speaking of that, I'm really glad you decided to stop training and was kind of surprised you didn't stop sooner! I do agree that plan just wasn't for you but you are still a very accomplished runner. There are as many ways to get to the finish line as there are people who cross it :).

    1. All I can say is that I drank the Kool Aid and was too scared to stop. What if I stopped THE DAY BEFORE THE PLAN STARTED TO WORK?? :)

  11. Ha...I'm laughing about brushing your teeth. Who came up with that anyway? It's too EASY to re-brush your teeth. I runfess I have this silly rule that if I get dressed for a run, I need to run for at least 45 minutes to an hour. It's why I don't streak. There is no way I'd stop at a mile (or two or three).

    1. There's lots of reasons I don't streak, including is it really worth getting all ready to go just for 10-20 min?

  12. Aren't marathons crazy? After New York, I'm really really looking forward to taking a season off of Marathons. You comment about the stability ball is hilarious! I've never worried about that, but I worry about falling a hurting myself a lot (in a really public, embarrassing way) :)

  13. The toothbrushing trick really does work for me. I think it's more mental than anything - it means I'm about to sleep, so there's no point in eating more.

I feel the same about "base" distance. I upped my minimum run to 5 for awhile, but now I'm back to about 4 and it felt SO short, but I think for the summer and 10k training it's really just perfect.

    1. My downfall was staying up like 2 hours after I had decided to go to bed!

4 is plenty for this summer and the training you are doing!

  14. LOL! You snacking is funny! My hubby is the same way- ice cream, then a slaty snack and then it just doesn't end! I like 4 miles as a base run myself- you are a warrior :)

  15. When I workout at hem with weights I am always afraid I am going to either 1)drop them on the cat, 2)drop them on the coffee table or 3) put them through the tv
