Weird Week

This past week was so weird.

First of all, despite being sick, I did a fairly good job at work giving all of my energy toward my students. Then again, there really is no other option at the beginning of the year. I'm trying to establish rules, procedures, and standards.I have to be on top of things. This will pay off in a few months when I won't have to be on top of things and my classroom will run smoothly anyway. But right now, it just requires so much energy!

Another thing that made the week strange was that I've been staying up really late even though I get up really early! My alarm is set for anywhere between 5:00-5:45am, but I have been up until 11pm or later all week. This is very unlike me. Normally I am in bed between 8-9. I'm holding up okay, but on Saturday morning I really caught up on some sleep! (I slept for 12 hours- holy moly!)

My new school schedule is a little strange too. I have a brand new design to my days. There are some things I like about the schedule and some things I don't like. One thing I do like is the CHANGE. Even the parts that are a bad change. I know that sounds weird, but it keeps things fresh.

I ran almost every day this week and didn't lift. So weird. But I enjoyed my mornings on the road.

Our school was dismissed early again for mold growth That was weird!

And the last weird thing was that I barely taught any piano lessons this week! I lost a lot of students over the summer. I normally have 10 students and right now I only have 5. I need some more students!

What time do you go to bed/get up?
Do you like when your work schedule changes?
Anything weird going on with you?

  2. My times for going to bed and waking up vary day to day... I'm almost always in bed by 11 but the time I get up varies from 5 AM to almost 9 AM just depending on if I run, how long I run, and how I feel. I don't mind work schedule changes much as long as it doesn't interfere with real life... changes during the workday are okay but I don't like the idea of having to work later or come in earlier although that happens sometimes. Mainly bc that interferes with running and social times!

    1. I would not like work to interfere with my life outside of work either! I get really mad when I think and worry about work outside of work hours, especially when it's keeping me up at night. We have contractual hours so our school basically can't make us come in early or stay late. I know a lot of teachers do do that or take work home but I do not. I need boundaries so I can be refreshed when I go back in the next day. I don't even check my work email when I am at home because seriously, no good at ALL can come of that!

  3. We are transitioning from school physical season to the sick season. The kids are off in the summer, aren't sick so much, and in the fall, the germ sharing begins! It's not so much weird as it is change. But like you, I welcome it.

    1. I am going to ask you something you probably get asked all the time... How do you manage not to get sick all the time?

  4. I hope your brother kicks ass today in his race! I also hope you get some more kiddos for lessons. I go to bed by 8 PM each night and I am up between 3 AM - 4 AM. My work schedule is flexible but can change just depending on my meeting schedule. I am just used to it. Weird to me is that we already have morning temps dipping into the 30's. I am so not ready for this!

    1. He did a great job! Sub 2!! He's running a full in November. Low 30s?? That is freaking crazy! It can be high 60s here in the am but it is SO HUMID that it doesn't matter.

    2. That is awesome! You both are so speedy! Not low 30's (38) but still. UGH. Yucky. We will be camping this weekend so I imagine it will be super cold at night in Estes (not to worry, we have a cabin w/ a heater so I will not have to complain).

  5. That is so odd, I've been going through something similar with my sleep. I'm typically an early to bed person, especially when I'm getting in early, but I'm finding myself going to bed really really late! Hopefully I can get back on track and you settle into your new school routine!

    1. What do you like to do when you stay up late? I'm watching TV, messing around on my computer, or reading. :)

  6. I notice that I am tired way earlier than I was last year. I think its has a lot to do with being out in the sun and running since on work days I have to run after school.

I'm curious to hear about all your school changes next time we talk. If something is currently working for me I don't care to change it. glad you are liking your new schedule. Mine hasn't been completely nailed down yet. Hmm, about this mold growth. Do you think you will have to evacuate this building? I'm wondering if they need to do a complete overhaul to this building to find the source of the mold. Perhaps there will be a new school building in your future.

    1. The sun can really take a lot out of you. How is Baylee doing not having her mommy home with her all day?

Well from what our admin tells us, the mold is growing because it is so humid and our HVAC system is too old to keep up. They are doing a feasibility study on how to either fix or replace the HVAC. Crazy....

  7. I was going to bed later last week since my dad was visiting, so that may be what threw me off my game and made me so tired. I left until 7:30 this morning, which is unusual, but I'll take it. Hopefully I'll get back on my normal schedule and stop feeling tired all day long.

    1. Oh man I hope you can get back to normal. It sounds like a lot of us had an odd week!

  8. I hope your lesson schedule fills up! I'd take lessons from you in a heartbeat. My weird thing is one night this week I could not get to sleep. I'm a champion sleeper so that was totes strange. I watched all the late shows and was up well past midnight. Horrible. Thankfully it was a one-night thing. Ugh.

    1. Glad it was just a one night thing! What do you normally do to help you fall asleep?

  9. More mold?! Your district needs to get it together!

I'd be interested to see how much you walk in class throughout the day. I was surprised that my pedometer tracked me at about 4 miles of classroom steps the one time I remembered to check!

  10. Wow four miles is no joke! I guess I will have to borrow a pedometer or something.
