I’m
going to tell you all something that is going to BLOW. YOUR. MIND. Paul and I
are giving up ice cream until we go to Hawaii! That’s right. For the next two
months, no ice cream for us! Maybe we will eat ice cream in Hawaii, but
apparently shaved ice is the frozen treat of choice on the island, so we will
see.
The
No Ice Cream Initiative was Paul’s idea. He wants to eat a little healthier,
which is hard to do when I insist on having 3-4 cartons of ice cream in the
freezer at a time. We eat it at night whether we crave it or not. But when it’s
not there, we don’t crave it! So the plan is not to buy it so we don’t eat it.
We
have been without ice cream for over a week now and it has been going really
well now! I truly don’t even want any. I am sure I will eventually start
craving it, but right now, I am doing fine without it. I am sure that first
bowl of ice cream I have after two months is going to taste sooooo good.
Lest
you think I have given up desserts completely, here’s what I have been having instead of ice cream…
1. Honey
Nut Cheerios
2. Peanut
Butter Toast Crunch
3. Angel
food cake w/ strawberries,
milk, and chocolate morsels (I don’t play)
4. Chocolate
morsels with
big spoonfuls of peanut butter
(I
have to ease up on this because I am really flying fast and loose
with the
amount of peanut butter I am consuming.)
So
that’s my big Saturday news for you! I’m sure you were hoping for something much
more exciting than the No Ice Cream Initiative…
What’s
your favorite flavor of ice cream? Anything with cake or cookie pieces in it!
Do you keep it in the house? Not right now, but usually I do!
Do
you eat dessert every night? YES!
Good for you and Paul! No harm in liking and eating ice cream but no harm in changing your diet for a bit. I rarely eat ice cream so I do not have a favorite. I used to crave sweets after dinner but since we went gluten free, I do not. I am sure it has something to do with the carbs in breads and such that turn into sugars blah, blah, blah. Anyway, no gluten means greatly reduced sweet tooth so no dessert most nights. I almost always had a cookie or something like that after dinner but..... good luck on your ice cream boycott.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine not eating gluten would severely limit your dessert choices, unless you purposefully planned and purchased stuff to keep around. I see a lot of gluten free brownie and cookie mixes at Aldi. I guess there is gluten in ice cream??? I have no clue! Anyway, I still crave something sweet but I don't crave any ice cream yet. I will soon I'm sure!
DeleteWhat?! My sweet tooth is SOOO bad and I've been GF for over 15 years!
Deletewe have the same problem (although we eat "fake" ice cream since my hubby is milk intolerant)! if it's there we must eat it! good idea to go without until your trip.
ReplyDeleteIs fake ice cream good?
DeleteI don't think I will feel any different. As long as I don't pig out, I never feel bad eating ice cream. It just works for my body, I guess!
ReplyDeleteFun fact: in traditional shave ice, there is ice cream in the middle. That's why it's so amazing. I don't eat ice cream very often. When I do, it's usually on Sundays at dinner with my family and I have a bite from the carton. Otherwise, I eat dark chocolate chips as my dessert choice.
ReplyDeletePS- There's only gluten in ice cream if it has something with wheat mixed in, like brownies or cookie dough.
Omg now shaved ice actually sounds good! So Scandi's will have ice cream in it??? Thank you for the info on gluten and ice cream. All the ice cream I eat has chunks of gluten-y goodness!
DeleteI eat a spoonful of peanut butter at night probably three or four days a week -- it's the best! I've never put chocolate morels in it though... I actually think that would compromise the sacred peanut butter. You know how everyone eats Reese's cups differently (or so they say)? I try to get all the chocolate off so I can just eat the chunk of peanut butter in the middle :D
ReplyDeleteFavorite flavor of ice cream is peanut butter... favorite flavor of frozen yogurt is peanut butter.
Wow now I know how much you really like peanut butter! :)
DeleteIce cream is good, but not really my "thing," but I can't keep peanut butter in the house or else I would weigh 200 pounds. :) Good luck on your challenge. You can do it! :) I have a little piece of dark chocolate every day. My 43-year-old body is pretty unforgiving with calories and sugar these days, so that's about all I can have.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky you don't crave ice cream! It is my weakness :)
DeleteI used to eat ice cream every night, like you, but then after I found out I had high cholesterol, I finally ended up giving it up (not for good, I still treat myself every once in a while!). It was REALLY hard at first. But however, I hardly think about it anymore. I guess because I've replaced it with the Swedish Fish. However, it's funny, you talk about ice cream so much that now when I go have some I tend to think about the many pics of ice cream you've posted on this blog, haha. My all-time favorite is B&J's Cherry Garcia. I cannot control myself and have been known to eat an entire pint in one sitting!
ReplyDeleteI do post a lot of ice cream pics! Blog will be ice cream free until mid july, though :) I never had Cherry Garcia. I actually don't like cherry ice cream. How sad! But Ben and Jerry's in general.... I NEVER bought that because that stuff just took ice cream to a whole new level and I do not trust myself one but around it.
DeleteSounds like a great plan! I gave up ice cream for 2 months last year. It was pretty doable! I also don't keep ice cream in the house because I would eat it all the time! Hawaii will be so much fun, I'm sure!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI had a dream about ice cream last night so now I am getting nervous!
DeleteI like ice cream's taste, but it makes my stomach hurt if I eat more than a couple of bites, so I generally just have a bite or two of J's. We don't keep it around here, either, because J likes it too much. :) When we were in Hawaii, though, he had some macadamia nut ice cream that he says was the best ice cream he'd ever eaten. He still talks about it sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteI will look out for that ice cream. I don't think I even had a macademian nut, let alone ice cream of that flavor. I do want to try to eat Hawaiian things while we're on the island, so maybe I will try it!
DeleteWhen I stop eating ice cream and stop buying it, I don't crave it. But if I eat it, I crave it more and more!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your initiative!
Hopefully I am like you!
DeleteI hope there are ice cream buffets in Hawaii.........
ReplyDeleteI always eat dessert, but try and make it generally protein rich but with some chocolate or nut butter. Standard.
