Weekend Wrap Up!

SUMMER IS OVER!!!!
I am sad.
But I did have fun during my last few days of freedom....

I was up past 4:00am, so on Friday, I slept until almost 11:00! Talk about soaking in the last little bit of my summer vacation!

I went for a really hot run, but I can't complain because my MP3 player randomly decided to work, which meant I got to listen to my geeky Big Brother podcast.

Paul left to play disc golf with his friend, so I headed to the mall to putz around. I made two big decisions while I was at the mall...

1. I need stylish, yet comfortable new shoes for work.

2. I need to stop wearing dresses/tunics with leggings every day to work and get myself some actual pants that I will wear.

It took two hours, but I found what I wanted!

For the shoes, I got these Dr. Scholl's black flats with pointy (but not pinchy) toes. I am a teacher, which means I stand/walk a lot all day long. Quality shoes are a must. They were $49.95 at DSW but I feel like you get what you pay for, and these shoes are going to be worth it.

For the pants, I tried on probably 15 pairs at various stores. I finally ended up in the juniors section of Macy's (of all places!) and found an excellent pair of stretchy black dress pants. I want to call them leggings, but they are thicker than leggings. They will pair nicely with my new shoes, dress shirts, and in the winter, sweaters. I am very happy with them and will wear them 3 days in a row, I don't care!

Did I mention they were only $22??
They were on super-sale.

On the way home from the mall, I stopped at the grocery store and treated myself to some fancy olives for in my dirty martinis. I'm worth it!

I got up at 8:00am- a respectable hour, if I do say so myself! I lifted chest at home. I just wasn't feeling a run. Plus, I wanted to do something "longish" on Sunday, so I thought it would be nice to have a rest day before that!

That afternoon, Paul and I putzed around the mall. He spent about an hour and a half in a book store, which is really strange because he doesn't read a lot of books! I am not complaining, because I went to the New York & Company outlet and got myself some dress capris, light colored jeans/leggings, a bright colored short sleeved sweater, and this beautiful dress:

 The dress was only $15!!!
I don't need a new dress, but for that price I do!

That evening, we pigged out on pizza (I ate 3 slices, though only 1 slice is pictured below!) and started an old season of Survivor. We watch on CBS All Access.

My last day of summer vacation started the best way a girl could ask for- hanging on the couch with Jelly.

Then I ran 10 miles! I just did a million loop dee doops around my neighborhood. I listened to a podcast about Pearl Bryan. It was very creepy.

That afternoon, I met Merenda from Fairytales and Fitness at a local park to walk and chat. She was in the area, so we decided to meet up! Merenda is a very sweet girl with a lot of interesting stories to tell. As teachers, bloggers, and runners, we had a lot to talk about!

Fairytales and Fitness & Meg Go Run- united at last!

After my blogger date, I went home and cleaned my house. Then I did something I haven't had to do in quite a long time... pack my lunch.

You know it's lunch packin' time when I get out the 3lb bag of broccoli!

Then Paul and I spent the rest of the evening chilling together and watching Survivor. Our love easy/boring weekend nights like these!

I forgot to show you the cute jammies Paul got me for our anniversary.
You can't tell, but there are stars, Christmas trees, and reindeer on them!

Well my friends, that was my weekend! And now I shall leave you with a meme that had me rolling on the floor laughing. Unfortunately, a lot of teachers will be able to relate to this one this week...

Oh Kermit, you're so sassy!
Teacher friends, did you treat yourself to any clothes or shoes for the new school year?

Ever meet a blogger IN REAL LIFE? (I felt like I was meeting a celebrity!)

  1. Okay, I literally LOL at "I felt I was meeting a celebrity"!!!! I am glad you thought my stories were interesting..lol.

I NEED to get some new duds for school and comfy shoes are definitely on the list. After wearing shorts and workout gear all summer it's hard (for me) to fit back into dress clothes! I think I may have tried on those same skinny pants you bought at Macy's ( in a different color though) but I barely got one leg through while trying them on before I decided that I can't pull off the skinny look. They would have been way too tight for me! I have been wanting to get to that NY and Co outlet. I should have gone yesterday afternoon! I do like wearing dresses because I am fashionably lazy! I don't like having to pick out tops and bottoms that actually match! I hope your first day back is actually a productive one!

    1. Sorry, that's how I feel when I meet someone I have only ever seen pictures of! Celeb status. :) That is funny you think you tried on the same pants. They were called "Shine" or something like that. I had to try on several different styles/cuts so that they looked right on me. I have no problems with skin tight leggings, but tight dress pants make me nervous. These worked though!

I am just like you- dresses are easier! Nothing has to match!! I really need to change my style though because I have been rocking the same dresses for like 7 years now. I think some of them are too young looking for me. Maybe I need some more older/professional dresses!

  2. I am always on the hunt for comfortable shoes and perfect work pants! I get all my tops at the loft, but I usually don't have much luck with their pants (except really casual ones like jeans). I need to go to DSW soon and try to find some comfy flats!

  3. My back to school clothes are "coaching clothes" so I am lucky in that I get to pick out some new (read *non-stinky*) running clothes. I will never forget when my youngest came home after the first few weeks of second grade saying, "Mom, my teacher wears the most beautiful dresses. You should dress like that!" I replied, "Sorry sweety, you didn't get that kind of mom..." :)

  4. Happy first day of school! Our first day back is tomorrow. I'm so glad I get to have the experience of setting up a classroom in my internship. I just got an awesome new pair of flats on sale and I bought two new pairs of pants. I'm ready to get go!

    1. Yah sounds like you are all set! Have fun setting up your classroom. :) That is always exciting as a young teacher! Now I am the old fuddy duddy who simply covers her bulletin boards w/ paper at the end of the year and then when I go back, I just take off the paper and VOILA the old bulletin boards are up again! (Don't be like me- stay creative!!)

  5. Most of my friends and family are teachers, and quality shoes is always something they talk about needing. Glad you got some! I love that you found your pants in the junior section. I'm all about buying little girls clothes. LOL. If only my feet weren't huge, then I could save money on shoes, too!

    1. The truth is clothes in the women's section are usually too big for me! It's only because they have been making sizes larger and larger lately. Juniors always seem to stay the same and I can usually fit a 5 or a 7, depending on the brand. Women's clothes are way more radically sized.

  6. Ohhh i need to get some professional clothes... I need to stock up for work!! I keep wearing the same jeans over and over hahaha. My only black flats are like a houndstooth design, so theyre more winter than anything else...

    1. Those sound cute, but yes the houndstooth is more fall/winter. I wish I could wear jeans to work! Although one of the pairs of pants I got are kind of a cross between jeans/leggings but they are so dark they look like dress pants- even though they FEEL like yoga pants!

  7. I remember when I was lecturing at Oregon State, I would always have to dress up and look professional (especially because of my age). I would wear mostly dresses and boots/dressy wedges and by the end of the day my feet would kill me. I ended up bringing a comfy pair of shoes with me each day for the trek across campus from class to class, and would throw on my “nice” shoes before walking into the classroom. Solved that problem.

I have met a couple bloggers in real life, which is always fun. I always think about how fun it would be to get all of my favorite bloggers together in one place… I wonder what THAT would be like? :)

Enjoy your first week back in the classroom… seriously, wasn’t it just yesterday when you started summer break?

    1. I used to wear heels in my younger days- heck even when I pushed a CART from room to room and taught music that way. No more. I'm over it!

Paul says he thinks the blogosphere is going to explode when I meet Ali and Kristina in December hahaha! He is so dramatic, just like his wife!

  11. Sounds like a nice way to finish off you "summer"! I can imagine comfortable shoes are a must when you are a teacher! I have met many bloggers in real life, and attended a financial bloggers conference, which I'll be going to this year again in Charlotte in September.
