Weekend Wrap Up

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Well, I never do this. I scrapped the wrap up I wrote last night and rewrote one bright and early this morning. What else was I supposed to do with my 2 hour delay? I was already wide awake and dressed for the gym. (At lest I wasn't at the gym!) My weekend wasn't that great, so my original wrap up had a lot of complaining. So instead, I shall give you the highlight and low light of each day.

Highlight- After 3 days without ice cream, I went shopping, and all is right in our house again.

Low light- We had a snow day. Now we have to make it up. Ugh! I just want to go back to work and get back in the swing of things!

Highlight- I finally got out my flash cards to study. I am embarrassed to tell you I have studied a total of ONE HOUR since Thanksgiving Break. Things just got super busy and stressful. But now that it's January, I really want to commit to buckling down and finishing up so I can take my test and officially become a certified personal trainer. I can take the test as soon as February or as late as July...

Low light- I worried about my knee. It's not getting better, even though I still do my PT exercises. I have an appointment with a new physical therapist on Wednesday. He specializes in gait analysis. My chiropractor set me up with him. When I saw my chiro last week, he did a lot of movement and flexibility tests on me, checked out my hip flexors and IT band... (remember my PT told me my tight hip flexors, tight IT band, and quad dominance are causing my knee pain?). My chiro concluded that my hip flexors and IT band are not even that tight- not enough to constitute my knee hurting since July. He thinks the only other option is that there is something wrong with my gait that I causing my knee pain. So off I go to get my gait analyzed... hopefully from a physical therapist that knows what they are talking about. I think this guy is my last hope for me running Boston on April 21st.

Me on the Boston Marathon finish line. There is where I want to be on April 21st!

Highlight- I relived my childhood by re-reading the Sweet Valley High Book called A Night To Remember. I remember loving these books when I was in middle school, but now, as an adult in my early 30s, I have realized the books are ridiculous!!! But oh so fun to read!!

And I found the hilarious blog called The Dairi Burger: Reading Sweet Valley High in my thirties. She has hilarious re-caps of each book from a 30 year old's perspective. I was rolling with laughter and totally intend on reading her re-caps of the rest of the books!

Low light- I laid on the couch... A LOT. It wasn't a rest day. I did intervals on the arc trainer and lifted. Tuesday shall be my rest day. Winter break has really made me good at being lazy...

And there you have it! I hope you like this version of my wrap up. My other version was a downer. Hopefully this one is only half downer.

What was your favorite book series as a child?
Tell me a highlight and a low light from your weekend!
Did you ever have your gait analyzed? What should I expect?

  1. I was a weird child, I stole my day's John Grisham books because I didn't like the traditional children's or young adult books once I was about 8. Obviously a huge dork destined to be a literature PhD :(

I had my gait analyzed and have a massive discrepancy between my legs due to scar tissue from a serious injury 10 years ago. I have a whole host of exercises I perform now to try to even things out and I have to consciously think about my form when I'm tired in a run so I don't do anything to injure myself. It's such useful information to have though and I'm hoping it keeps me injury free for a very long time, it's working really well so far :)

    1. It's good to hear having your gait analyzing, and then following through with the exercises is helping you stay injury free! It gives me hope! I am just so sick of different doctors telling me different things about what it "could" be. My MRI shows simply "knee inflammation". I think it must be something with how I am running that is causing it. But we shall see. Honestly the worst thing would be if he watched me run and said "Oh your gait is perfect!!!" because then I'll have no CLUE what to do next.

  2. What is a delay? Even when I lived up north, we either had school off or went in at the normal time. Does a delay mean you have to stay later? Do you have to make up the missed day somehow?

    1. We had a 2 hour delay this morning because it was really cold and icy. If we have a delay or an early dismissal, we don't have to make any time up. If we have it totally canceled because of snow or something, we DO have to make it up. We had a snow day this past Friday so now we have to go in on MLK day. :(

  3. Sweet Valley High!!!! I looooved those books so much when I was younger. I especially loved when they went off to university! I can't imagine re-reading them now though. I bet the book made you laugh a lot!

I think Jessica's Secret Diary was my favorite of all the books. I remember re-reading it a few times :)

  4. I am definitely sending you healing thoughts! I want you to run Boston just as much! I live vicariously through you amazing marathoners because I'm too chicken to actually run one myself, let alone qualify for Boston.

How is it studying to become a personal trainer at the same time as teaching. Becoming a personal trainer is something I want to do, but I don't know how it would be while teaching (especially my first year).

    1. It's definitely hard to get the motivation to study sometimes. You know how it is... ya get home from work and you're just mentally wiped! Luckily, I started studying in August, so I had 4 weeks to really delve in before teaching started. Also, it's a study at your own pace type thing (at least mine is, getting certified through ACE). You have 6 months to register for the test. I have to register in Feb, but can sign up for a test that's months away if I want- as far as June or July! So I could take the whole year to study if I wanted to. I go through spurts. I went HARD the first two months, but as the content got harder, I had to slow down a little or I wouldn't retain everything!

  6. It would be so dangerous to have that ice cream in my house! I loved the sweet valley high books. I also read a lot of VC Andrews books. The highlight of my weekend was running 10 miles (well, when I was done) :) and the lowlight was working. :( Hope you figure out the knee situation!
