Anniversary Weekend Wrap Up!

Ooh look, a lovey dovey theme for our Anniversary Weekend Wrap Up!

Warning: This is really long! We actually got out of the house and did stuff this weekend!

I think we'll need Monday to recover...

Friday morning was glorious because I finally got to catch up on some sleep! Then Paul and I headed out for one of our disc golf/running dates. We were went to Codorus State Park in Hanover, PA. It's about 50 minutes south of where we live. On the way, we stopped for breakfast at a diner. It only took about 4 minutes for our food to arrive, which was awesome because we were starving!

French toast, 1/2 egg sandwich, and home fries.
Not pictured: Another half piece of French toast and coffeeeee!

Baker's Diner in Dillsburg. Highly recommend it!

Once we got to Codorus, we took off on our own adventures. Codorus has a highly rated disc golf course, so Paul was excited for that. They also have fun running trails but since I am afraid of snakes during the warm months, I stuck to the road. It's okay, the scenery was gorgeous!

Goats?

Central PA scenery at it's finest!

Corn, corn, everywhere!

Halfway done, feeling good! Workin' on my runner's tan...

Lake Marburg

Bathroom selfie. Apparently I have to concentrate to take these.

I slowed my pace down and the run felt great!

I got done first, so I snagged some pics of Paul finishing up Hole 18.

Go Paul!

On the way home, we were trying to figure out what to do that night. We didn't want to spend money, but we wanted to do something fun. Turns out, most things that are fun cost money! I like to make up games to play- especially in the car- so I told Paul the game was we had to go back and forth and think of something to do that night for every letter of the alphabet, and we would alternate. It didn't matter if we said something we couldn't do or didn't want to do, it was just to brainstorm ideas. Our game went something like this:

Paul: Alcohol
Megan: Bowling
Paul: Carnival
Megan: Drive In
Paul: Evergreen Buffet

You get the idea! Well, when we got home, we searched for carnivals online and I found a carnival in Hummelstown (15 mintues away) and there was a FUNK BAND playing.

Readers, I don't know if I ever told you this, but I like funk music!

Soul Solution! They were EXCELLENT musicians.

Look at this cute couple dancing!

We shared these yummy fries.
Not pictured: The hot sausage we shared and immediately devoured!

Funnel cake was dessert!
I love when I really crave funnel cake and then I EAT IT!

Paul said something really funny as we sat down to eat our funnel cake. He goes, "I can't believe we eat stuff like this. I mean, like, humans EAT this." I laughed so hard. I can't remember the last time I had funnel cake. No, there is nothing beneficial about it for the body except that it is YUMMY. But it is fun to be able to eat and enjoy junk once in awhile.

One of the best things about carnivals is people watching. We were in Hummelstown, which is right next to Hershey (ritzy) so I didn't think the people watching would be that great. But it was. The thing is, it doesn't matter where you go. There are whackos everywhere.

Saturday was our anniversary. Six years, baby! The day started off with an impromptu, unofficial 5k!

I'm trying to get my mojo back. My last mile was at a 6:41 pace and I felt like I was going to barf and shit my pants at the same time. I walked for a few minutes and then jogged the rest of the 1.9 miles to make it an even five. When I got home, I did chest/triceps/shoulders/abs resistance training. I actually now have everything I need to work those body parts at home! It is great, because then I can watch TV while I do it.

That afternoon, we drove up to my hometown of Millersburg to hang out with my family and watch a couple bike races that were part of the Tour de Millersburg. I didn't know anyone in the race but it was still fun to watch. They rode SO FAST.

Here come the elite women!

And the elite men!

My mom took a couple anniversary pics of Paul and I while we had the chance. Some are serious but most are silly...

Later that night, we got all dolled up and went out to eat at TJ Rockwell's. They have a really nice deck and their food is yummy.

Margarita, Cuban sandwich, and yummy fries!

To round out the night, we played cards on the back porch and then watched some Survivor. It was the perfect anniversary! Much better than last year... last year we spent our anniversary evening in the ER. So as long as we didn't go to the ER this year, it would automatically be better than last year!

On Sunday, we did exactly what we normally do on days we don't know what to do... disc golf/running date! We went to Willow Mill Park. I ran some hills while Paul practiced his putting.

Then we went to Lowe's to grab some paint cards to use for classroom assessments. All I need are some clothespins. Then each student can move their clothespin to the right answer and hold it up so I can do quick checks of their learning! Thanks to my friend Sara for the photo and idea!

The colors have fun names, as you can see. I can already hear the kids reacting to the funny names.
There is one card with a color called "bran muffin". I can just HEAR them screaming "BRAN MUFFIN!!!???" with glee!

That night, we went to see my friend Randy and his improv group perform! They are hilarious. If you live in the Harrisburg Area, check out the Oxymorons!

The HILARIOUS Oxymorons!
Do you like funnel cake?
What about FUNK music?
Do anything fun this weekend?

    1. Yes I think the kids would love having things they could TOUCH too you know? But I am going to have to laminate mine like 5 times and get extra clothespins because they kids at my school DESTROY shit. I mean, I could give them a brand new box of crayons and 5 minutes later it looks like the kid had been using the crayons all year!! hahaha. I have SEEN your abs and they are not under 5 inches of fat. :) Abs = chicken breast, weight training, good angle of the camera. ;)

    4. That's because you live in Canada. Americans are fat, lazy, and like to eat fried dough!

  3. Omg you're kidding me! That's what disc golf looks like??! All this time I was totally picturing normal golf with like a bit of frisbee thrown in here and there for extra fun between two players. That's what I get for making stuff up in my head!

    1. That is why I post pics, because NO ONE knows what disc golf is! lol! The only reason I know is because of Paul! But yeah, some of those baskets are like hundreds of feet away and Paul can get it in with 2 shots. When I throw a frisbee, it could go literally ANYWHERE except the direction I throw it in. I wonder if they have disc golf courses in FL? I am thinking prob NOT because it tends to be in the woods and I don't picture there being lots of woods in FL, but then again I have never been to FL so I am just making that up.

    2. I don't think we have disc golf just lots of regular golf and mini golf down here. There are woods in northern florida... I think. I've only driven through quickly but I know some short-ish trail races are held up there so I think they must at least have more than we do down in south florida.

Disc golf sounds so hard. I can't throw a frisbee in a controlled manner either. If I had a dog instead of a cat he would definitely get his workout in trying to play frisbee with me!

    3. You will have to start training Cecil! :) I really want to go to FL someday. Paul and I have to use at least some of our credit from United Airlines by mid October. We have to book something by then and we are nervous about booking a huge Hawaii trip so far out again (learned our lesson.. we could only do HI in the summer cause of work) so my point is we might go to FL for a long weekend this year. It seems so far away but it's just a short plane ride!

  4. What a fun anniversary weekend! Really awesome. I completely enjoy letting loose and indulging on foods I don't normally eat when we go places (this summer there have been a lot of hot dogs at ball games -- and beer but I drink beer every weekend).

    1. I once in awhile enjoy a fat, greasey hot dog! I don't even really like hot dogs but if I am in the mood and it's blackened on the grill, bring it on!

  5. Happy anniversary! I love the outfit you wore on Saturday night! My sister used to show horses at the county fair and I would get a funnel cake then, but it's been years since I've had one. I could definitely go for one right now!

    1. Thank you! The skirt is from H & M and the black tank top is just random from my closet,

    2. Oh, I rolled the skirt up but if I just wear it normal I can wear it to work. :)

  6. This made me laugh: "Turns out, most things that are fun cost money!"

This is how my husband and I end up doing things like the Ostrich Festival, mini golf, and Netflix instead of going to a movie!

I've never actually had a funnel cake. My parents didn't actually let us buy food at most fairs or parks. My mom smuggled M&M's in instead.

  7. I don't like funnel cake and to be honest, I don't know what funk music is!
Your game you played in the car sounds hilarious! We use to play games like that. That's lucky that you found a carnival to go to. Those french fries look AMAZING! I gave up fries and haven't had them in over a year! Sounds like ya'll had a great anniversary weekend without any accidents!

    1. I remember you gave up fries! I only eat them if we go out to eat or if we're somewhere like the carnival where they are REALLY good. Funk music... do you know the song Superstition by Stevie Wonder? That's an example. Lots of funky guitar, bass, and of course, BRASS.

  8. Disc golf is a huge thing up here, so I totally know what you're talking about every time you write about it. I am an absolutely TERRIBLE disc golfer. Actually, I'm terrible when it comes to anything competitive with other people because I just don't care that much. I usually just chuck the disc and hope it goes in the right direction.

I love your shirt in the anniversary pictures! And those shoes you wore out are amazing!!! I'm glad you had such a great weekend. Your abs make me drool!

  9. Love all your pictures! Looks like such a fun time. I've never been into funnel cake, and even way before paleo realized that deep fried dough is just not well liked by my system.

    1. I totally understand. I don't think deep fried dough is good for anyone! I woke up really thirsty in the middle of the night and I think it is from the carnival junk food.
