This summer, Meg Go Run celebrated it's 5 year anniversary!
My first blog post went up on June 4, 2013. I have blogged every single day (and once twice a day by accident) since then. That brings me to 1900 consecutive blog posts without missing a single day!
Why blog every day?
Well, I enjoy it. Plus, it's hard to not keep the streak going! Why break the streak now? But of course it will happen at some point, right!?
I also feel like if I skip days, I will never feel like I have anything worthy to write about. Because let's face it, not everything I post on here is groundbreaking stuff. But I feel like since I post every day, it doesn't have to be groundbreaking all the time. If I only posted a couple times a week, I would feel like every post would have to be major high quality.
Every once in awhile I go back and read a couple of my very first blog posts. It's sooooooo cringe worthy. It's like reading your high school journal. I think the biggest way my blog has changed from those first 1-2 years is that I used to give out a lot more nutrition/exercise advise. But I slowly got away from that.
Today, I'm going to look back at a couple of my first blog posts and provide some commentary!
My First Blog! - Summer Goals
One of my goals that first blogging summer was to cut out "diet" drinks with fake sugar. My personality leans towards "all or nothing" and I remember that summer I definitely took the "all or nothing" approach.
These days, I avoid fake sugar but if I'm craving a Diet Mountain Dew, I'm going to have one and not cry about it. Once in awhile we'll buy a 12 pack of diet root beer and just chug it to our heart's content, but it's not a regular thing. Our fridge is usually stocked with flavored seltzer water. Just the carbonation is enough for me to feel like I'm drinking soda.
Treat Yourself
What's most notable about this post is it's the first time Nancy Grace's picture appeared my blog. Who knew that several years later, I would meet her!?
Getting Out Of My Head and My Favorite Healthy Foods
In this post, I wrote about a sandwich I created called a Meg Sandwich. I totally forgot about the Meg Sandwich! I used to eat them all the time! It's whole wheat bread with egg whites, turkey breast, and cheese. I'm sure I sprinkled some salt on there too. I haven't had a Meg Sandwich in years...
Weekend Wrap Up
My first Weekend Wrap Up! It was short with zero pictures. My weekend was full of cats, family, game night, and Zumba. Hey, not much has changed over the past 5 years!
How long have you been reading Meg Go Run?
Has anyone been here FROM THE BEGINNING?
Thank you to all my readers and especially those that leave comments- some daily! I love that I have met some REAL LIFE FRIENDS through my blog! I never thought that would happen!

I've enjoyed your daily commentary over the years. We started our blog in March of 2013 as well so I'm sure i started reading it sometime that year. I really wish I knew how I even discovered your blog...any ideas how you discovered ours?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how I discovered your blog! My guess is a link up?
DeleteI have been reading since early in 2014 I think? Maybe late 2013, I can't remember! Do you remember how many running bloggers there were back then? It seemed like every day a new running blogger popped up!
ReplyDeleteI replaced diet sodas with unsweet iced tea around the same time you stopped drinking diet sodas, but I still put a sweet-and-low in my coffee every morning. Some habits die hard. And i just realized why sweet-and-low is called that as I was typing it out hahahah! WOW!
You have definitely been reading a long time! I wonder how you found my blog? I used to read A LOT of blogs but now I only read a couple. I like to INVEST in a couple blogs rather than try to read a whole bunch and not really connect with the person.
DeleteYes! Faithful reader. I have read every single blog post since you started with the exception of your Weekly Workouts (I never read those!!) I don't know if its weird bc I know you IRL and since before you started blogging. But, I miss being in the classroom next to yours, and I feel like I still get to see you every day when I read your blog!
ReplyDeleteAw I am glad I can give you the feeling of seeing me through my blog! I know what you mean... There are a couple bloggers and one vlogger (Kristina!) who I follow every day and I feel like I know them and I miss them if they don't post for a couple days. I miss you being next door too. I wish we all taught music in the same hallway!
Deleteps. No one reads the workouts!
Congrats, girl! I LOVE your blog -- it's kind of the only one I read these days because I just spend more time watching IG stories and YouTube! I am not sure how long I have been reading -- maybe 3 years? I wish there was a way for you to go back and find out when I made my first comment! Thank you for taking time to write and share your life with us each day! I love being along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteand P.S. I read the workouts and then comment about my same boring routine :) LOL.
DeleteOkay I am sorry you DO comment on the workouts and sometimes Meranda does too! :)
DeleteI know that the FIRST time I was in CO was around the time you started commenting. I'm going to go back and looking. :) CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!!

May 25, 2014. Over four years! :) It's a hilarious blog post. I wrote about how my pee got interrupted when a car came and even though I tried to stop peeing and then continue my run, I couldn't stop peeing! You commented that you had similar problems. Unless it was a different Susan! :)
I have been reading since 2016, I found your blog while looking for new blogs to read in Wendy's blog. I remember you were posting about running in Harrisburg, and I was SO excited to find a blogger from Harrisburg!! I immediately loved your blog, and how you kept things so honest, down to earth and humble. Thank you for that! at the time it felt like all the bloggers were sponsored for Sweating Pink or influencing something or other, and your blog was so refreshing. Thank you for being awesome ! I am so glad we have met IRL!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found my blog!!! I remember one of the first posts I read of your's was your Gettysburg Marathon race recap and you had me laughing so hard. I'm glad we became RL friends as well. :) <3 I'll always keep it real here...
DeleteWow 5 years of blogging every day? You put my NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month, where you blog every day for a month) efforts to shame! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Like I said, it is not QUALITY every day (as you clearly know!) but still, it is time consuming!
