Goodbye, Summer!

Sleep Update: I got good sleep last night with no pill! I fell asleep a bit before 9pm, woke up in the midnight hour to feed the cats, but fell right back asleep and didn't awake until 5:05. My alarm was set to go off at 5:30, so I take that as a HUGE win!

My summer is officially over. Today I go back to work for three professional development days and then the students come on Thursday. I haven't gone into school at all this summer, so I have a lot to do in these next couple days!

I had two goals for the summer. My first goal was to go for daily walks. That happened exactly one time. I've made the goal to go for walks several times but I never follow through. I think it's time to face the fact that I don't want to go for walks. If I wanted to, I would do it.

My second goal for the summer was to stop using plastic bags. I am proud to give myself an A+++ for this goal! Even when I forgot my reusable bags, I would either shove everything into my purse or just carry my items out of the store. I'm stubborn.

Summer is when I have the time to create a "to do list" of chores/projects I want to get done. Here's my list with the items crossed off that I managed to do.

Wax my eyebrows and lip
Go to Ulta and have them do my makeup
Get passports
Deep clean the house
Organize the back room of the basement
Get ride of our dead bushes and trim the other trees and bushes
Figure out how to cut the cable cord <--- Paul's job and it's INCOMPLETE!
Clean the inside of my car
Make a compost pile and rain barrel

Eh, I guess I give myself a B+ on my to do list. But at least all the things that are left are not time consuming in the way that the things I actually was able to complete are.

I also made a list of FUN things I wanted to do this summer. I did almost everything on my list!

We hiked a new part of the Appalachian trail.

We discovered a new park in Boiling Springs for disc golf/running dates.

We took Ellie, Clementine, and Clark on lots of fun outings!

We vacationed in Vermont. One of the highlights was hiking up Camel's Hump.

We went to NYC for our birthdays! I turned 36 and Paul is a baby at 35.

We went to the pool a couple times.

We took some day trips, like the one we took in July to Lititz.

We went to some festivals and carnivals.

We took advantage of free outdoor concerts.

We went to some wineries and cider tastings!

We went to Cape Cod on vacation.

I stayed connected with my work friends!

We took Paul's niece and nephews to Hershey Park.

We toured the Lizzie Borden House.

I went to the Mutter Museum.

We went to Knoebel's with my family.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary.

Goodbye, Summer! You've been good to me this year!
Were you productive this summer?
Did you do everything you wanted to do?

  1. Ugh I think Summer brings a whole list of expectations, I know I had a ton of things I wanted to do and I did not do many of them. On the other hand nothing can compare to the feeling of being able to stay safe at home and cuddle with pets. I've been savoring that this year and it's always SO hard for me to leave Baylee to go back to school. I should make a list of what I did this summer too.

I'd say you were pretty productive! You and Paul had a steller summer! Now what do you have on tap for fall?

    1. Omg I haven't even started thinking about fall! Give me a minute to get the swing of the school year and then we'll see what sort of energy I have... :)

I would love to see a list of what you did this summer! I bet it is hard to leave BAylee. It is easier for me to leave the cats because I know Paul is at home giving them attention.

  2. You did a lot of great summer things! I wish I would have gone to some free concerts. Even working just 3 days a week seemed like a lot because I never just woke up and spontaneously went to a concert at the park or a picnic (I visioned myself doing those things, haha!) Geez, wish I had eyebrows to wax. This summer I learned how to draw my eyebrows on! (gotta love teenage daughters teasing about the lack of eyebrows. They are blond after all....)

    1. Maybe if you scheduled the concerts in you would be more likely to go?

  3. Ah, you're back to school soon... that's why you're saying the summer is over (because I am like "what? No, summer is not over yet!"). ... but it looks like you did a lot of fun things this summer and really used the time off. Good for you!

  4. You did a lot of awesome activities in the summer!! Were you sad to go back to school?

It is very interesting that walks are not your thing, but hiking and running you are good with. If I could, I would walk everywhere!!

I read your post on Cape Cod and it looked amazing! Now I want to go too!

We are doing the last few things we wanted to do this summer, the only thing that didn't get checked off was Valley Forge, it got cancelled twice because of rain.

    1. No, I'm actually very excited for the school year! I have a lot of new ideas!

I'm okay with walking for a purpose. For instance, I believe if I lived close to my work I would walk most days. But just walking??? I clearly don't want to!

You guys would love Cape Cod! I suggest going this summer. It's a 7 hour car ride but I know you guys don't mind!

What is there to do at Valley Forge?
