Yesterday, I decided to lift, and other than teaching piano lessons in the morning, I had the rest of the day to myself. (I worked Monday and Tuesday, then had off Wednesday and today- I know it's weird. don't ask because I have no answers for that one!)
The workout I am sharing with you below should have taken 45 minutes to an hour. It took me TWO HOURS!!!!
Here's what I did....
1. Warm Up: Rotator cuff, shoulder press
2. Put hair in ponytail, wash face, brush teeth, pee
3. More warm ups: Assisted pull ups
4. Reply to a blog comment
5. 3 wide grip pull ups
6. Check Big Brother message boards
7. 2.25 wide grip pull ups (couldn't get up the whole way on the last one)
8. More message boards.
9. 2 wide grip pull ups
10. Facebook
11. 2 wide grip pull ups
12. Read this article and got extremely pissed.
13. 1 more wide grip pull up
14. Changed into my workout clothes.
In my defense, I need considerable rest time in between even small sets of pull ups. But as you can see, my lackadaisical behavior was a little extreme!
The rest of my workout went fairly well, and I won't give you all the details like I did up above, but please know there were considerable amounts of blog reading, Youtube watching, and kitty petting in between each one of my sets!
Dumbbell Row- 5x10x25lb
Band asst. pull ups (wide grip)- 4x5
Bicycle Crunches- 4x40
Band asst. pull ups (neutral grip)- 4x6
Bicep Curls- 4x10x15lb
Stability Ball Pass-4x8
Planks- 4x45sec
Planks- 4x45sec
Stretching
I guess the good news is, unless I plan my lifting for the weekends, now that school is back in session I will be forced to either get up at 4am so I have a full two hours for these lazy workouts, or I will get my butt in gear and have my lifting workouts more focused! You all know I don't like to get up any earlier than I need to, so I suppose I am going to have to get my head back in the game and reserve lifting time for lifting, not catching up on my interwebs!
Can you relate to any of this?
OMG, that article. I just can't....(wow). But back to the "lazy workout". Yes, I can relate to this. Most days I stay on track and am done in 20 minutes; however my workout room is also my art studio so I have been known to get side tracked: work on a project, drink some coffee, check my phone/read blogs, rearrange things, dust of the shelves...etc.
ReplyDeleteOkay glad to know I am not the only one! I mean, as much as I like to lift, I can get sidetracked too!
DeleteIt actually makes me feel better to read of other procrastinators...the other day it took me 1.5 hours to get outside to run. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI won't even read the article...
Save the article for the next time you do speed work. It will make you run faster out of anger!
DeleteOh those Duggars. And the Kardashians. Can the media just stop giving them publicity? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling lazy this morning, and I've got a double dip today, speed work this morning and crossfit after that...looks like a nap might be in store for this afternoon.
It is like a train wreck I can't stop watching!
DeleteHope your workouts go great- AND your nap! :)
I worked with a coach for just under a year who gave me strength training exercises and made me lift twice per week. Otherwise, I never lifted. It really does help! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome I am glad you are reaping the benefits of strength training!
DeleteOkay, so I don't lift but I completely relate to the time issue. I am the QUEEN of procrastination. The only reason I get any running in at all each day is because I have an anxiety disorder and I panic about fitting in my run like it's my job. It's weird, I'm weird, I get it. If 4am was the only time I could run, then 4am it would be. GAH. But that would totally give me stress diarrhea.
ReplyDeletelol I don't have anxiety about it but if the only time I could workout was at 4am I guess I would just have to suck it up and do it! And then rearrange my life so I could be in bed by like 7-8pm each night!
DeleteI always get distracted when I do my workouts/stretching at home, that's why I try to go to the gym as often as I can!
ReplyDeleteGood idea! I too am way more focused at the gym!
DeleteSchool will definitely force me to git 'er done!
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is the kind of lifting I could get into! Is the payoff just as good as when you don't take little breaks and get distracted?
ReplyDeleteThat article makes me want to punch people. They're the LAST people to offer counseling! They'd teach victims to blame themselves!
Haha I am not sure if the payoff is as good but luckily I think I have a good foundation and a month or two of my laziness won't be too much of a detriment! But it is definitely something that has crossed my mind. I am sure there is scientific evidence on it but I will just live in my dream world for now. :)
