Holy Moly

Oh my goooooosh. I am typing this Thursday afternoon as I wait to teach piano lessons. I am wrecked. I feel like a Zombie. And with the help of Snapchat, I look like one too…

The cats woke me up at 2:45 for their breakfast. I put their bowls down and then got back into bed, totally anticipating three more hours of wonderful sleep. But instead my mind wondered. I thought about work and the busy day ahead. I was wide awake.

It pisses me off when I start thinking about work when I’m trying to fall asleep. I can’t do ANYTHING about work in the middle of the night. I try to think about a million other things... My new thing is to just get up. If I’m going to be awake, I may as well do something that is a distraction rather than just lay in bed and thinking about stuff at work that I cannot change.

At 3:17 I admitted defeat. Once my brain starts thinking about work, all bets are off. I got out of bed, poured some coffee, and started catching up on Anderson Cooper from the night before. Jelly was a sweetie pie and fell asleep on my lap. How nice that he can fall back asleep but I cannot!

I went out for my run at 5:15. Normally I am not scared running in my dark neighborhood because during the six o’ clock hour there are lots of signs of life. I can see televisions on through the big bay windows. People are walking their dogs. Some are leaving for work or walking home from the bus stop. There aren’t a ton of people out but there is enough that I feel safe.

But in the five o’clock hour my hood is still sleeping! It creeped me out… especially since I was listening to a JonBenet podcast! Around mile four I started to see dog walkers, so then I was relaxed. During my run I wasn’t tired. My legs felt strong. At mile 6.6 I looked at my pace for the first and my average was 8:06. I decided to crank it up and try to get under 8 minutes per mile by the time I got to mile 8. I made it to 7:55 thanks to my last mile which clocked in at a 6:56. The 6:56 didn’t suck! I was pushing but it wasn't balls out.

I had a weird breakfast- a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with tomato. I put olive oil on the bread so it would be extra tasty. I also had a pear.

The tiredness did not hit me until I got to work. I was sick tired. All day. Now I just have to stay awake for two more hours until my last piano lesson and then I can SLEEEEEEP!

Do your pets wake you up at night????

  2. JUST last week we finally got Cecil on a 9:30am and 9:30pm feeding schedule (with dental treats at 7pm). For the first time in nine years I am now sleeping through the night in my own bed. It's glorious! Obviously I love Cecil and I want him to be happy, but getting up at 3am to feed him was not my favorite thing in the world!

I'm the same way as you - if I can't fall asleep or fall back asleep I'll get up and do something. Usually 30 minutes after that my body realizes it is actually tired and then I can go to sleep!

    1. I think Cecil is going to be happy as long as he has consistency. It sounds like you have that! He is a lucky little boy. :)

  3. Ugh...not good, Megan! You look so tired in that photo! I hope you slept wonderfully and had a good Friday. I am super thankful Macy does not ever wake us up--except one time when she got really sick downstairs (sigh) and every once in awhile she "talks" in her sleep (we call them howlers).

  4. Oh our old dog would wake us up in the middle of the night. It was so bad that I would make massage appt just so I could take a nap!
I admire you for getting up so early to run each day.

    1. I love getting it done first thing in the morning! Nothing to admire, it's when I enjoy doing it!

  5. My dog wakes up early but my husband does too so it works out ok.

I ran in the dark yesterday--I had to go to work early. It was weird but ok.

    1. I do like the dark, as long as there is some form of life going on so I don't feel all alone!

  6. It's a horrible, horrible feeling! I was looking forward to today but the same thing happened... I only got 3 hours of sleep last night. :( Woke up at 11:59pm and never fell back asleep. I shit you not.
