Weekend Wrap Up!

This weekend was extra long because we had off work on Friday! I'm not sure why. Maybe my school board knew I had a half marathon on Saturday and wanted to help in any way they could so that I could have a kick ass race performance... Hmmm, I think I needed two days off for that to happen!

Paul and I had a little morning date. First, I took him to get his blood work done. How super romantic! Then we hit up our favorite diner. I got my usual: water, coffee, orange juice, 2 eggs over easy, 2 pieces of wheat bread, and 3 slices of bacon. I always give one piece of bacon to Paul because I am a good wifey.

Then we headed to Dick's so I could look for 12.5, 17.5, and 22.5 pound dumbbells... except they didn't have them. Darn! I'm still on the search...

After that, we stopped by my SIL's to pick up a huge jewelry cabinet my mom handed down to me. Isn't it nice?

When we got home, I got right back into my jammer jams. I adulted for a little while by doing house stuff, but then it was TV & puzzles. I finally finished up watching the Benghazi hearing Hillary Clinton testified at. Yes, I watched the entire thing!

I also got everything ready for my race the next day and laid out Flat Megan.

Flat Megan and Flat Chrissy!

Since we finally had gas for our grill, Paul made us chicken. I love the smell of the grill. It smells like summer.

I couldn't decide whether to have chicken and pasta or chicken and 'taters for dinner so I had both!

All in all, it was a pretty good rest day!

Race Day! I ran the Movie Madness Half Marathon. You can read the recap here. The short story is that a lot didn't go my way. No PR. I got 2nd woman overall. I am still trying to process the race and learn what I can from it.

That evening, Paul and I had dinner with his parents at the Pizza Grille. Wine and carbs erased my race frustrations for at least a few hours. So did all the Datelines I watched and puzzles I did while relaxing on the couch all evening. My body felt pretty good despite the race. I wasn't tired and nothing was hurting.

My quads hurt a little Sunday morning but nothing crazy at all. I wanted to go for a run but I knew I should play it smart and wait until (ideally) Tuesday. I like to be nice to my body after a hard race.

Still, I was itching to get outside, so I loaded up my mp3 player with podcasts and went for a walk instead of a run. I got 5 miles in and then lifted back at home.

The rest of the day was spent just finishing up some odds and ends. The low light was when I spilled wine all over my puzzle! It was sad. At least it was only $1 and I can get another one if I swing by the Dollar Tree tomorrow.

The high light was when Paul made me laugh so hard that I fell on the floor. He really is that funny!

This is Chrissy's "Tomorrow is Monday" face.

Tell me something fun you did this weekend!

  1. What a great weekend! I hope you can get a new puzzle. I need to chat w/ you offline about your feelings on Benghazi. I have so much respect for you that you took the time to watch the entire trial. I love when Rick and I get laughing that hard--nothing wrong w/ having fun. I saw the movie Eddie the Eagle yesterday. If you want a feel-good movie, I highly recommend it. I absolutely loved it.

    1. I never even heard of Eddie the Eagle! Isn't that the name of the NRA's mascot? I have a feeling the mascot and movie have no connection! I would love to chat with you about Benghazi. It's easy to watch/listen to while I puzzle. But then I miss all of the good faces people make, so I have to be sure to look up once in awhile. ;)

    2. It is based on the true story of Eddie Edwards, a British ski jumper. I mean, if you want inspiration for your training and your next race, go see it. Of course, I cried during it. Just really good. You gotta PM me about a few things (1) what you found out from the RD yesterday if anything and (2) if you feel the US did the wrong thing w/ how they handled the situation. I am really torn and most of that is because I did't take the time like you did to really listen to all the hearings. I saw the movie which is so sad no matter if you think the US did the right thing or the wrong thing. Just very, very sad.

  4. Catching up from this weekend so I read your race recap too. Second female?? AWESOME! I was wondering if your calf cramping isn't cramping, but more of a fatigue/strain kind of thing. At race pace you are more likely to be forcefully toeing off, especially if there were any sort of inclines. Anyway, it doesn't change the problem...just trying to help you analyse the situation...no expert here.
I had a fun weekend exploring our yard--because we moved in December, it is fun to see what is coming up in the neglected gardens! I also started a few fun decorating projects...so I have a few pinterest fails to show for it.
Have you ever made pizza on the grill?? It rocks.

    1. I am not sure about the fatigue strain... what does that feel like? Mine is like them seizing up into a knot and if I am not careful I would fall over. Could that feeling be cause by dehydration or fatigue?

No I have never made pizza on a grille, sounds yummy!

Oh I bet it is so fun experiencing your first spring in your new yard! Our yard isn't even new but some random tulips popped up this year.

  5. What do you do with your puzzles when you're done with them? You seem to do so many! I get really frustrated and bored with them...but I think that's the point yes? It may help teach me patience? :) Congrats on getting 2nd overall!

    1. Well, my "good" puzzles I save or pass on to friends and family. "Good" means I actually spend money on them. Most of them I get for $1 at the dollar tree or $2 at Good Will/Sal Val... places like that. The really cheapo ones I will either just save in my closet or... throw away. I know that sounds horrible but they are really cheap and I don't think ANYONE would want them! $1 for 3-4 hours of fun... can't beat that!

  6. Awe, crap. Sorry to hear your race didn't go well, Meg. :( Cool that you got second though! That's amazing! I read the part about the wine spilling on your puzzle on FB and giggled a bit. Tee hee! I mean, how sad. :(

    1. LOL you can laugh at my wine spillage. What is amazing is that it was my first sip! It wasn't even me being tipsy and knocking it over. I mean, I have done MANY a puzzles tipsy and never spilled.

  7. Congrats on getting 2nd place! It sounds like the conditions were tough, and that's NEVER a good time to PR. You did really well though, so don't think too hard about not PRing.

I had a pretty awesome weekend climbing/hiking down in Arkansas, but I did come home to a tornado and flash floods. Luckily the tornado didn't hit anyone, but the floods were kind of sucky.

  9. Chrissy in the cat-load-of-bread pose on a tin that says Bread on it is priceless!

I love that you did chicken & pasta AND chicken & taters. I am too lazy to split things up like that. I would just be thinking "double the prep, double the clean up with two bowls instead of one" :D I wish I wasn't this lazy!

That is really impressive that you listened to the whole Benghazi trial. Now I want to do it too. I'm queueing it up on my phone now!

    1. We call it his breadbox because He loves to lay on it or sit on it and look out the window. It is basically his. :)

Girl, the pasta, chicken, and taters were already made and sorted into in different tupperware. All I did was get out two bowls and dump a little in each. :)

DO IT! Watch/listen to Benghazi. Hillary is a rock star during it. And the repubs admitted ON TV that they didn't know what they were looking for and they wanted to tarnish her impending presidential run.

    2. I just started it!

  10. I LOVE that you watched the entire Benghazi hearing. You are what's right with voters today; you actually care to be informed. Kudos! I wish more people were like you.

    1. I wish more people cared to be informed too! I watched/listened (sometimes podcast form) to every debate... even the repub ones. My neighbors must think I am insane because when I listen to Trump or Cruz spout lies I start screaming out loud (while running) "THAT'S A LIE!!!" I mean you can just picture it can't you???

  11. Maybe if other dicks have them, they will ship them to the store for me for free! Thanks for letting me know you have seen them in Dicks before! You know sometimes when I pick up weights and I am not lifting, they seem a lot heavier too. But I have chalked it up to the fact that I am not in the frame of mind to beast it and work out, you know??
