It didn't take me long to realize that I eat A LOT during the school year... much more than I eat during the summer! The reasons aren't hard to figure out. My days are longer and I am way more active during the school year. I am standing and moving most of the day. Believe me, I sit when I can, but I am up and down all the time.
I try to keep healthy snacks at school. Peanut butter filled pretzels and protein bars are always in my cabinets. I also keep Greek yogurt and frozen strawberries in the fridge, but normally I don't have time to eat those because the faculty room is so far away.
Fruit has been expensive lately, but when I can, I keep apples and bananas in my classroom. Yes, I occasionally eat in front of the students because some days, I teach from 11:55-3:15 straight. There is not a moment without a class in my room, so if I get super hungry... well, I just have to eat something in front of them!
Teachers: Do you ever have to eat in front of your students?
Do you eat more during a certain time of year?
Do you eat more during a certain time of year?
I do not eat in front of my students but I have free moments throughout the day to have a snack. I would think that I eat less during the school year because my days are more structured where as during the summer they are not. But then again I can't remember eating that much in the summer and I know some of the snacks I have during and after school are not that healthy!
ReplyDeleteYeah I think I used to eat less due to the structure but for some reason, I'm just moving around so much this year and need some more calories.
DeleteI eat more than normal on vacation :)
ReplyDeleteAnd on days when I am very stressed :(
I don't eat more on vacation but I eat WORSE!
DeleteI noticed last year that our PTO brings in random food snacks for teachers, like the one year they brought them a box of soft pretzels, and another time donuts. Does your PTO bring in random food ?
ReplyDeleteI eat most in the mornings at work, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, cookies, pastries. When I'm at home, I just have breakfast and don't spend more than 30 minute eating it. At the office is all morning, non stop!
Yes they do! Sometimes it's for a specific occasion, like during conferences or teacher appreciation week. But sometimes we will find a chocolate bar in our mailbox just because! It is really nice of them to do that. Oh, sometimes they will put a basket of Kcups in the faculty lounge too. :)
DeleteMmmm reading about all of your bfast items is not helping my hunger. Unfortunately, there is a bag of baby carrots in the fridge I'm supposed to eat. :(
Mmm pumpkin seeds, that's a good idea!
