Day In My Life

Through the magic of having a smartphone, I am now able to post Day In The Life posts right away! So the day you are reading about is actually from yesterday! How is that for timely?

So this Day In My Life is brought to you by my Samsung S6. Not the the S7... which one of my 4th graders informs me BLOWS UP. Seriously, he said, "It's a good thing you didn't get the S7 because it catches on fire." HOLY SHIT!

I hope you enjoy a peak into my world!

My alarm went off at 5:45. I poured my coffee and chilled on the couch with Jelly. We watched the end of the CBS JonBenet special. I was excited to see who the experts named as a suspect. Then I snapped this picture of us before I headed out for my run!

It was not hot but it was humid. I did 5 miles in my hood. Whenever I saw a Trump sign, I made myself kick it into high gear. I ended up having a speedy run and I felt good about it!

Splits: 8:02, 7:43, 7:50, 7:42, 7:08
Whenever I saw a Trump sign, I just told myself to "Run as fast as you hate Trump!!!!!" I hate that I have hate in my heart, but I do.

This is how I felt after my run!!!
Also, this filter makes me look a little... bosom-y.

After my run, I stretched for nearly 20 minutes while watching more of JonBenet. Then I got ready for work and poured my cereal. I eat on the way to work. I don't even want to tell you how I manage to do that...

It was Day 1, which means all new lessons... except I didn't have my lesson plans done! My work space was a little messier than usual as I frantically tried to prepare my for the day.

This is considered "messy" to me!

What is that messy pile doing there????
Are you jealous of my 3-hole punch???

I didn't mention this, but I got my period that morning, which means I did not feel 100%. I managed to make it to lunch without shitting my pants. I had BBQ chicken and corn. Yum!

I ate most of this before I took a picture!

My afternoon classes were pretty awesome. The kids were focused and I was relatively patient. That is one thing I don't have... patience. But I try. I really try to be a patient teacher!

After work, I drove to my piano students' house for their lessons. I normally teach at my home, but because of our middle school being on a weird schedule these past three weeks, the only way for them to have their lesson was if I swung by their house. Luckily, next week they will be coming to me!

I got home from lessons at 5pm. I showered, ate dinner, and watched more JonBenet!

Oh, I also sang to Chrissy...

Then I had another piano lesson at 6:30. Late night. Ugh.

I felt like I didn't get to spend much quality time with the kitties, so I paid them a visit...

Quite a dramatic pose, Chrissy...

Then of course I had to send out my nightly Snap Chats.

At some point I had Paul's homemade chili for dinner with lots of tortilla chips! No picture. I was too hungry.

I went to bed relatively early... 8:30. I needed my beauty rest because tomorrow (tonight as you're reading this) is the Survivor premiere and Big Brother finale, which means I'll be up until after 11pm! AUGH!!! Reality TV is worth a day of exhaustion!

Hey, even though I normally feel like shit on the first day of my period, I didn't feel too bad today! I attribute that to keeping ahead of the pain with 3 Midol and 5 Ibuprofin... not all at the same time...
Anyone watching Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X?

Does the term "millennial" annoy you? It annoys me!

What did you all think of CBS's JonBenet special? I think they hit the nail on the head!

Do you think you'll try my Trump Fartlek workout? Hey, if our country is going to go down the shitter, at least maybe you will become a faster runner!

  1. The term millennial actually does annoy me. I think its because technically I fit into that category but I don't feel like I do, if that makes sense. When I think of millennial I think of 20 somethings and it feels like they are SO much younger than me.
I couldn't imagine teaching all those piano lessons after work...especially the 630 one!

    1. I listened to a podcast about generations and they said people who are on the cusp of Gen X and Millennials (that's us I think, the cusp! I'm 34, I think you are in your early 30s too) have to look more to how you were raised to decide what generation you are in. While I think I am a little young to be Gen X, I feel I was definitely RAISED more like a Gen X kid than a Millennial. Millennial is such a loaded word! I feel like it means there is a sense of entitlement there, but that is wrong. I know people in their 20s and work with people in their 20s and they don't seem entitled to me! But that is what I think of...

  2. I hope that patience is enough to carry you through the school year! I know how taxing the younger ones can be!

    1. I bet MS requires a ton of patience too... a different kind of patience!

  3. Millenials, GenX, Boomers? Why do they have to categorize anyone? I actually hate the term Baby Boomer because even though I come in on the tail end of that, I don't feel like I have anything in common with them. They're old, right?

    1. So we are sort of in the same boat- you at the tail end of boomers and me at the tail end of Gen X... except I want to be categorized with the older people and you don't!

  4. Millennial itself isn't bad, but it's used as an insult against the very young end of the generation. A friend had a good point though, that the young end shouldn't be considered millennials because generations are based on experience instead of age. Millennials were actually shaped by things in the 90s and very early '00s, and what people insultingly refer to as millennials weren't even aware of things like Columbine and 9/11 when they happened.

    1. So you think the young millennials aren't even millennials? What are they called?

That's exactly what they said on the podcast- that experience and upbringing have more to do with what generation you identify with. Particularly people on the cusp of two.

  5. I hate the term millennial because everyone uses it so negatively. It's not like every generation doesn't have it's share of idiosyncrasies and well, issues. I hate that it's used as an insult because the insulting context doesn't apply to everyone born within a certain decade or whatever. It kind of reminds me of those horoscope things in Chinese restaurants that are "Year of the Boar" or whatever. Like you can classify everyone's personality based on the year they were born!

I think I might watch the new survivor tonight. I need a new show to get into.

I'm going to practice running fast past Trump signs but all we really have out here are construction zones and Gary Johnson signs.

    1. I thought there were lots of Trump supporters in SC? I was thinking certain people may die trying that workout depending on where they live lol. Okay so here is your workout for the day Amy... Johnson sign = smoke a joint. TRrump = report to the nearest taco truck. Clinton = check ur email.

  6. I got my period 3 days ago and when I got it, I thought of you because I remember being on the same schedule. I guess we're a day off now though. Maybe you'll catch up next month, or I'll slow down a day and we can be period twins. I love your day in the life posts! They're my favourite kind because I get to be sneaky on people without doing anything wrong.

  7. Your songs are so catchy--I find myself signing them for hours after I hear them! I love your Trump Fartlek run! Thankfully no signs in our hood, yet. I think Colorado is a swing state but unfortunately means all blue in Denver (yay) and more red up in NoCo (boo). I think, however, your speedy run inspired me on my run today too--speedy and negative split which just doesn't happen very often for me. P.S. Rick will be all about watching Survivor for our family (LOL)--he gives me his opinion when you and I chat about it--I like to compare what you say vs. what he says.

    1. Good job on your run today!!! You didn't even need anger or rage! Can't wait to hear what Rick thinks of Survivor. I am team gen x for sure.

  8. I love A Day in the life post!!

your desk hardly looks like a mess! My desk last week had so many files and papers on top, I could barely find the desk itself !

do you put anything on your corn? now I'm craving corn!

I like the Trump Fartleck work out! I'm going to try it at Camp Hill!

Roger likes to call me a millennial when I do something he doesn't agree with ... like when I refuse to watch a TV show that I can't binge watch. That is the only time it annoys me! But it's whatever to me, I don't consider myself a millennial, or a Gen X.

    1. I put salt on my corn. I love corn so much! I hope you don't die from my Trump workout. My Hillary sign is supposedly coming today! Dang well he uses millennial in a derogatory way that would annoy me too!

  9. I can't wait for Survivor premiere!! (but I'll have to, because we watch it on Thurs night). I thought of you twice today - once when I passed the Hillary campaign office downtown, and then when I heard Trump was actually in town today!! I would have gone to see him too :)

    1. Why would you go see Donald Trump?

    2. I would have gone to listen to Hillary talk too! It would be cool to see someone who could potentially be president. I had no idea he was in town.

    3. I would not be caught dead at a Trump rally and I think the prospect of him being president is terrifying. Nothing cool about it.

  10. I can tell Jelly is definitely your son because he looks super into the JonBenet special! :D

I really dislike the term "millennial" because people seem to only think of the shit qualities that are generically applied to our generation instead of the good stuff -- and there is a lot of good stuff!

As a marketer when I talk to brands about reaching millennial buyers the conversation is always positive. We talk about research that shows that the millennial generation is hyperaware of corporate social responsibility, how millennials love to buy products that are eco friendly, that millennials treat pets like family and want to buy them high quality products... there are so many traits that are positive, but I feel like most people only want to talk about the lazy, entitled brat stuff. So annoying.
