Places I want to visit this summer...

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...Maybe the title should be called "Places I can afford to visit this summer..." Hahaha! You are not going to see Hawaii, Europe, or Alaska on this list, even though I would rather go to those places than anywhere I am going to talk about today! I believe this is going to be more of a "practical" vacation year for us. Last summer's trip was was one of the best experiences of my life, but this year, we want to keep it simple. Here is what I am thinking about!

Salem & Plymouth

I recently listened to podcasts on the Salem Witch Trials and Plymouth. Learning about these two places made me very interested in visiting. They are only about six hours away, which is not that far at all.

NYC

New York City is directly on the way to Salem and Plymouth, so I thought it would be cool to spend a night there on the way up. Paul could go to a metal show and I could go to a musical! It has been a long time since I have been to NYC.

Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, MA

I have wanted to visit the Lizzie Borden House for several years now. I am fascinated with the case and have read several books on the topic. I definitely have my opinion on what happened that day... and if you care to know what I think, I can devote a blog post to the topic!

Charlottesville, VA

I went to Charlottesville when I was 19 to visit a friend who was going to school there. I would really love to go back because I think I would appreciate it much more! Also, I would love to visit Monticello because everyone says the tour is so cool! It may be better to wait until fall to visit since it will be even more beautiful in the fall.

Colorado!

We just love Colorado so much, and even though we have been there two summers in a row, we want to go back because there is more to see! This trip, we want to spend more time in Boulder as well as visit Rocky Mountain National Park.

Luckily, it is not that expensive to fly to Denver and we can pick the cheapest days due to me having off work in the summer.
Have you been to any of the places I listed above?
Is it too early to think about summer vacation, or are you dreaming like I am!?

  1. Looks like all great places to visit! One place I'd like to visit (among so many) is Washington DC. I have never been. We wanted to take the boys there but never got a chance.

    1. DC is awesome. Many free museums and sights to see. We went this past summer. We live so close but we rarely ever go there! I need to take advantage of being close to cities like that. That's sort of my thought process for this summer... Maybe you could do MCM??

  2. I am thinking about summer vacation too, but so far have NO IDEA where I want to go. I know we will not be going back to the US, too expensive this year....

    1. I wish traveling wasn't so expensive. There are so many wonderful places to see in this world! I am trying to take advantage of beautiful places near me.

  3. Plymouth is SO BORING. Definitely check it out but don't make it a day of your trip, just a stop off. Enjoy cape cod when you're done yawning at Plymouth Rock and Plimouth Plantation. Salem is a lot of fun, along with Marblehead. I'm kind of biased bc I'm from Boston/Martha's vineyard. Ooooo if you have time; go to Martha's Vineyard!

NYC is fun. Lizzie Borden house is cool, Fall River is a shit hole. I'd check out Newport RI while you're in that area.

    1. Dang, thanks for all that info! It's good to get the opinion of not only someone who has been to these places but someone that grew up near these places.

  4. I've been to Colorado and New York! I actually already signed up for this thing called Camp Grounded (I'm going to the one outside Austin Texas) and it's a digital detox camp for adults. I'm excited. Not sure where else I'll be going this year.

  7. Are they good running trails or good or hiking?

I assume Lizzie Borden will freak me out too. :)

A roller coaster trip sounds right up your alley!!

  8. Haha! I love thinking about vacations. Frank and I just got back from Mexico and on the way home were already talking about what to do for a big trip. I go to Colorado all the time, so my vote is definitely for there. Colorado is so beautiful and there are some pretty cool spots (like maroon bells) that are only a few hours from Denver.

    1. Now I have never even heard of maroon bells. I will have to check that out!

  9. This vacation has you written all over it. I love how you're planning to go do things that really allow you to explore your interests. Adam and I just started planning our big vacation of the year last week too. We're going to do a tour through Italy - Verona, Naples, Venice, Florence and Rome. It's not as personal of a trip as yours will be, but I've never been to Italy and everyone says it's beautiful. Chicago will be my trip with personal meaning! :)

    1. Wow you guys are going to have a great time! I wish we could do that. Believe me, I'd go to Europe for an "impersonal" trip if we could. ;) You are right from what I hear Italy is gorgeous. And the FOOD!

  10. Oh summer. It seems so far off yet it will be here before we know it. I've been to CO and NYC. Cannot get enough of either. Looks like we'll be doing a mandatory trip to NC to visit the in-laws this summer. So not exciting. I can't complain, having spent 3 weeks in Europe last summer. Travel gets addicting.

    1. 3 weeks in Europe??? Wow that sounds so awesome! I would miss my cats though. But that's the way to do it, I suppose. If you're going that far away you better stay awhile!

  11. I'd love to go to the Lizzie Borden house. I've never been to a creepy place with a REAL scary history. I wonder if I'd psych myself out. If I visited it without knowing the history, maybe it wouldn't seem scary!

    1. That place is actually a bed and breakfast. You could spend the night in the room in which someone was HACKED to death!!
