Lost Wedding Rings

Hey all! I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday 5 2.0!

Last week, Paul lost his wedding ring for the SECOND time! I only lost mine once, so I'm winning!

Note: Lost = Totally gone, have to buy a new one.

Before I tell you the stories of our lost wedding rings, let me assure you, our rings were not expensive. When we got married, we decided not to spend a lot of money on wedding rings or engagement rings.

Let's get into the stories of our lost rings! We'll start with Paul.

Paul lost his first ring several years ago. He is not exactly sure where he lost it, but he thinks it was in the ocean. He bought a new one to replace it. Last week, he lost his ring again while he was tubing and playing in the creek with his niece and nephews. It even crossed his mind that he should perhaps take it off, but he didn't, and eventually it fell off in the creek and it was gone. Clearly, Paul does not have luck with wedding rings and bodies of water!

He ordered a new one off Amazon. Here it is. It's the same one he had before.

Now it's time for my story! I have lost mine several times but ended up finding it. I only lost it permanently once!

My first wedding ring was this one. I'm pretty sure it was 2.5 mm but it could have been 3 mm. The first time I bought the ring (when we got married!) it only cost $70. When I lost it and had to replace it, it cost $150! It looks like the price has gone back down. Maybe I should buy one or two and stock up in case I lose it again!?
I'm not quite sure where my first ring went. All I remember is I got back from running a million errands and when I got home, it was gone. (My fingers shrink when I'm cold.) My best guess is that it's in the salad bar at the grocery store or something like that.

I have had quite a few scares with my second wedding ring. It once got caught in my running gloves and was gone for over a week. I can't tell you how excited I was when I shoved my hand in my gloves and felt my metal ring in there!

Another time, it fell off in a BIG can of yard waste and leaves! I actually had to ask my friend Tom to come over with his metal detector to find my ring! It only took him like 15 minutes and he found it!
Have you ever lost your wedding ring?
What's the most expensive or special thing you have lost?

  1. I thought I lost my engagement ring during one of those 24 hour relay races. I had taken it off to put on sunscreen and put it the little zipper pocket in the back of my shorts. I had to make an unpleasant pit stop in the woods and when I finally remembered hours later that I'd never put my ring back on, the zipper was undone and the ring was MIA. After a few minutes of panic I found it in the bottom of the Ziploc bag I was keeping my dirty clothes in. It's beautiful and not exactly cheap... definitely insured, but I still remember how upset I was for those few moments, thinking it was sitting in the woods in the middle of New Hampshire!

    1. Oh my gosh I would have been so scared too! Do you ever leave it home now for events like that?

    2. I haven't had any more events to worry about (this was only last September). I can say for sure I won't be taking it off for sunscreen application ever again, though!

  2. Earlier this year, I "lost" my wedding ring for the first time ever. I take my ring off when I lift weights and when I remembered to put it back on, it wasn't where I put it (in my wallet). I retraced my steps and still couldn't find it. Tore apart my car. The next day I was talking about it at work and a woman there convinced me to look through my car one more time. Sure enought, there it was along the side of of the drivers seat, tucked under the trim. I've had my ring for 30 years and it's a custom made ring with my engagement diamond. What a relief!

    1. Your's sounds irreplaceable! How do you think it got down there? Did it fall out of your wallet?

  3. My husband lost his within a year of our wedding and he never got another one because he works outside and I used to worry about it getting stuck on something and ripping off his finger (happened to my friend). I haven't been able to wear mine since my last pregnancy. So neither of us wear rings and we don't really care lol. Glad to hear yours weren't too expensive to replace! Stock up for sure!

    1. I know a lot of people who don't wear their's due to jobs, etc. My dad hasn't worn his for years for the same reason as your husband!

  4. ha ha I've never heard anyone say that they should stock up on wedding rings!!!

  5. Oh, wow! I almost never take my rings off and I have huge knuckles, so my rings aren't going anywhere on their own!

  6. When we first got married, we had inexpensive rings. We went tubing with friends, and hubby lost his. I kind of made a fuss, but we replaced it. The next year, we went tubing at the same spot with the same friends. Hubs held up his left hand and said he lost his second ring. I thought he was kidding, but NO! He lost it at the exact same place. Eventually, we bought more expensive rings, and he has yet to lose it. I have never lost my ring. Winning!

    1. That is so funny (only because they were inexpensive) that your husband lost his tubing in the exact two same circumstances!

  7. I don't wear my rings all the time. One time when we were moving, I'd taken them off & forgotten about them & then couldn't find them. When I finally worked up the nerve to tell my husband, he'd found them, had them, & was waiting for me to ask about them . . . I was ready to kill him!

My mom lost her wedding rin twice. Once when she came to visit me. Then we when we moved them a couple of years ago.

Clearly rings & moving are not good for my family!

    1. Oh my word I would have been so mad at my husband too! It sounds like a mean thing to do because you were clearly worried about it!

  8. Oh man! I can imagine it's so frustrating when this happens.

  9. I have never lost mine. Max is on #4, I think! He now likes the silicone rings - buys them on Amazon. Cheap and safe - you won’t get your finger ripped off when doing manual labor!

    1. MAX! lol. Silicone rings sound like a good idea!

  10. My dad lost his twice and he hasn't worn one since I was maybe 3 or 4. My mom has her original rings, which don't fit anymore, and then she bought a new one when I was in college.

    1. It sounds like there are a lot of people who don't wear wedding rings. Times are a-changing!

  11. I remember you losing your wedding ring a time or two! Yes, you should definitely stock up..lol.

Neither Scott nor I ever take our wedding rings off. I think our rings are on pretty snug and it would take a WHOLE LOT of effort to get them off..haha. I should take my rings off when I clean, paint, etc but I don't. I have learned this summer though to remove sterling silver rings before cleaning with bleach (or just wear rubber gloves).

I wonder about those who are losing their rings because they just fall off. Perhaps they need to buy a smaller size ring???

    1. My fingers fluctuate, that's why I'm scared to get a different size. When I workout or in the summer, the ring is fine. But when I'm cold, it's loose. Maybe I should get two rings of different sizes and just switch them out?? ahhaa!

  12. Stock up on wedding rings, great advice. Lol.

  13. Clay lost his wedding ring once. It turned up, thankfully. He doesn't wear it often and rarely wears it now because he lost weight and it doesn't fit well. It was a cheap ring from Walmart. We have considered getting Quora rings because we are both active, so if we did wear them a lot it would be easy to lose them with changing clothes in the gym or something.

    1. I looked up Quora rings but then realized you prob meant Oura rings?

  14. We haven't lost our wedding bands. I did almost lose another band that is very special to me. I think my hands were cold and it slipped off when I was searching in my bag. My husband cannot wear his as he jammed his knuckle about 18 months ago and he still cannot get it on. Good thing he was fast-thinking and whipped it off as soon as he jammed his finder as he would have had to get it cut off.

  15. Bummer about the lost rings! Ugh. I remember when you lost yours in the yard waste -- so great you found it. Rick lost his one time. At a jobsite. Didn't realize until he was home. He went back and started tearing through all the paper and tape (from painting) in the dumpster...all of a sudden it flew out and he heard it land on the ground. He also almost lost his in the river one time -- like he barely caught it before it came off. I have not lost mine. I'll be honest, I would be very sad just because it does have so much sentimental value. I did lose a very expensive sunglasses a few years ago...still bitter about that!

    1. I was sad when I lost the first one because of the sentimental value. But now that I'm onto my second, it's not so sentimental anymore hehe. Thank goodness both of you never lost yours. How long have you lovebirds been married!?

  16. Knock wood, we've never lost our rings. We've been married almost 28 years (Aug. 10, 1990). I take mine off for showering, but put them right back on after I'm all lotioned up LOL I had to surrender all my jewelry last year when I had that surgery, but my daughter was the safe-keeper. It drove me crazy to not have my rings with me for the duration of that long week in the hospital, though...

    1. I am sure it felt so weird not to have them on! It took awhile for me to get used to wearing my ring, but now it would feel so weird not to have it! Good job on not losing them for nearly 3 decades!

  17. Oh dear! You two haven't been lucky with rings! I am good with my ring...keys on the other hand, that's a different story! I lost my office keys, borrowed a colleague's key and now that's gone too!

  18. I haven't lost my wedding ring (yet), but I know all about the shrinking fingers when I am cold LOL that's why I often take them off when I do certain things (e.g. exercise).

My husband has lost his ring once and we had to replace it. It wasn't quite as "cheap" as yours, but we also didn't spend a fortune on our wedding rings. It wasn't worth it to us.

    1. Well what a relief his wasn't super expensive. I guess people get the really expensive ones insured.
