A Day in My Life

Hello all! Here is a day in my life... Monday!

I'll remind you that I don't mind Mondays because I don't teach piano lessons on Mondays. While I do enjoy teaching piano lessons, it's also nice to know that when my work day at school is over, I don't have to go home and do more teaching.

So when my alarm went off at 5:30, I was in a pretty good mood! I also slept really well, so that helped. Paul had trouble sleeping that night, so he was already up and watching an NBA playoff game. I moved my lifting workout to the music room so that he could watch TV in the sun room. It was nice to not have to be super quiet in the morning. Our house is one story and very small, so if someone is sleeping, you have to be quiet.

Iced coffee is perfectly acceptable hydration, right?

Then it was time to get ready for work. Christmas hung out in the bathroom with me while I did my hair...

... and Jelly decided to power puke in the hallway..

He's not. that. innocent.

Look at my music earrings! The kids dig them.

Protein shake (milk + whey protein powder)
and a nanner for breakfast.

I ate breakfast in the car, as usual. I leave for work around 7:30 and arrive by 7:50. It was so ugly out!

My morning is spent getting ready for the day at my desk or at stairwell duty. Gotta get those kids down the steps safely!

Here are some pictures of what went down in music class this morning...

Not pictured: An awesome chorus rehearsal on the stage. Boy did I work up a sweat! Our concert is on Thursday and I'm so excited!

Normally I have chicken for lunch, but we are out, so I had some sort of taco salad I concocted instead.

And here is what went down in music class this afternoon...

Funny story: A second grader asked me if I liked Trump. Just TOTALLY out of the blue! "Why do you ask?" I replied. The student shrugged her shoulders. "Do you like him?" I asked. She said yes, and that there are good people and bad people and the good people want to be safe. "I think everyone wants to be safe," I told her. "And you are safe here at school," I added.

After work, I went to the mall to look for earrings. When I buy cheap/trendy earrings I normally look at Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe.

However, I ultimately ended up getting earrings at H&M. I am trying a new style I saw in a movie... a stud in one ear and a dangle-y earring in the other. I have had mixed opinions on the style so far, but I'm going to try it! Which two earrings do you think I should wear together?

The wine shop is next to the mall so I stocked up on some Concord. We love Concord wine! The funny thing is, I didn't have my ID with me because I forgot to take it out of my hydration pack. (I put my driver's license in there before my AT run on Sunday in case I got murdered and someone needed to ID my body.) I was so afraid I would get carded at the wine shop, but of course I didn't.

When I got home, it was blogging and CNN! I did have a glass (or two!) of Concord!

Then I had dinner- a big 'ol salad that I forgot to take a picture of. Ingredients: Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrots, black beans, shredded cheddar cheese, ground turkey, ranch dressing, and honey mustard pretzels!

I went to bed almost right after dinner. I had trouble falling asleep and was on reddit for awhile... Eventually I did fall asleep, but it was a struggle!
Where do you like to buy jewelry?

Do you ever get carded?

Is your house big enough that you can be loud if someone is sleeping?

  1. I think your music class seems so much fun, and fun to teach. It must be nice to teach a class that students actually WANT to go to...haha.
I've had taco salad for lunch the past 2 days and I finally found those crab chips (like the ones we had in Baltimore) so I have been snacking on those but I think I need to get rid of them now...haha.
I don't workout in the morning so noise is never an issue but our workout room is far enough away from the other sections of the house that no one would hear me anyway. Have a great rest of the week.

    1. Most kids do want to come to my room, and it is nice to teach something that 99% of kids really like!

  2. Okay clearly I am not a music teacher because I thought the picture of those little bells(?) were small toilet plungers for a minute! I was like "i wonder what kind of music you make with toilet plungers, I guess they do make a suction sound..."

I've only had a couple sips of coffee so far today so my mind isn't working that fast yet lol.

Even though our house is two stories and the bedroom is upstairs, I can still hear if the TV is on downstairs. Noise doesn't bother me much anymore though. Our last apartment was right in downtown so there was almost always noise outside the bedroom window... the train, drunk people on the weekend, etc. I don't like total silence anymore!

    1. You know mini plungers would make a cool sound! I guess that would be a percussion instrument!?

I sort of like hearing outside noises while I'm trying to sleep, although we live in a quiet neighborhood so I really don't hear any. In the summer I hear the trash trucks in the morning but I am not happy about that as I am trying to sleep in! But inside the house sounds annoy me and prohibit me from falling asleep. Paul does a really good job being quiet but no one is perfect.

  4. I'm a bit late to posting here, but how do you and Paul feel about white noise machines? My husband bought one for me and it's been a game changer. He likes to listen to the TV pretty loud, so if I want to go to bed early the little machine makes a big difference in how much I complain :-) He bought a backup for the guest room/office and I find myself using it during the day, too, if I want some peaceful time at my computer.

    1. Paul really likes sound machines but I hate background noise of any kind. Fans bother me. Sound machines bother me.
