Weekend Wrap Up!

I hope you had a great 4th of July weekend!

Friday started with some lifting at Planet Fitness. I don't run as much as I would like... which means lots and lots of lifting for this girl!

Then we went to my brother and SIL's house for some family time!

My brother built his daughters an EPIC play set. It's one of those things where I can't believe he built it, but I can believe he built it!

My mom gave me some currants from the push out their house. I never had a currant before! I thought they tasted like raspberries. They were good in my Greek yogurt later on that day.

When Paul and I got home, we watched a million (okay, 4) episodes of Big Brother 11. Yes, that season is from six years ago. Yes, I already saw it twice. Yes, we love it!!!!

I stayed up really late reading in bed. As you probably know, I love true crime and learning about the criminal justice system. I was reading a book about the jury selection process and how the defense and the prosecution try to pick people on a jury that is going to side with them- before the trial even starts. I would love to be on a jury someday, but I am sure it is no as glamorous as it appears in my imagination. I have actually never been called for jury duty.

I rolled out of bed at 11:15. I was immediately disappointed because it was the 4th of July, but it was so dreary out. It hasn't even been really hot yet this summer. WHERE IS THE SUMMER WEATHER!?

For no reason at all, my hip and knee were really sore when I woke up, so I decided to lift instead of go on a neighborhood run.

That evening we had our friends Bob and Rachel over for game night. It was a celebration because they had just gotten married on Wednesday! We wanted to make their arrival special...

Aren't they a sharp looking couple!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

So I have gotten into this horrible habit of staying up until 4 or 5 in the morning and then sleeping half the day away. I was up until 5 reading but managed to drag my arse out of bed at 11:15 again. Then I went for a 4 mile walk/run.

3 miles of running mixed with 1 mile of walking @ 10:52 pace.
Does pace really matter when it is a walk/run!?

Then I went to the library to stock up on books for our fishing/reading dates...

I am really exited for the Amanda Know book! I remember when she was first accused. I thought she was guilty. But then the more I learned about the crime, I was convinced of her innocence! I am excited to see what I think after I read this book.

That evening, we hung out in the quad at Dickinson College in Carlisle to hear a free Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra concert. Everyone brings long chairs, blankets, food, wine, beer. It's just a great time to hang out outside, celebrate the 4th of July, and listen to beautiful music.

My cute date!

Have I ever told you Paul is HILARIOUS? If you know him personally, you know what I'm talking about. I had him take my picture but he kept trying to make me laugh so all you get are outtakes!

We enjoyed a sushi dinner in the quad and then relaxed to the music of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. They played a mix of patriotic music, movie music, and then a random rendition of the Time Warp! Yes, I got up and dance!

On the way home we stopped for Blizzards, because I can't think of a better way of celebrating America than by eating way too much ice cream!
Did you do anything fun for the 4th?
Have you ever served on a jury?
Are you reading any good books?

  1. What a super fun weekend! Our town does those outdoor concerts all summer long, too. I think it's awesome. Love the pics of you laughing!

I can't believe you stay up so late. I am up to start my day before you go to sleep. At least you can sleep in, though. I wish I could sleep in--girl, you got skills.

We spent our Fourth at Rick's brothers house w/ family + friends. They live on a lake and we were there from noon to 11 pm so it was a LONG but very fun day. I think July 4th is one of my most favorite holidays.

Let me know what you think of that Amanda Knox book. I was totally intrigued w/ that case and was like you in my opinion of her.

    1. The staying up late all started with an evening of insomnia in which I did not fall asleep until after 6am. That was.... I think Thursday night? Ever since then my sleep has been screwed up! We'll see how I fair tomorrow morning when I actually DO have to get up early for piano lessons!

So far I am loving the Amanda Knox book!

That sounds like a very fun 4th of July! :) I love long fun parties with family and friends.

    2. I am sure by this evening you will be so tired you will fall asleep at your normal time. I am just so impressed you can sleep in! That is awesome. I got to bed at midnight on Saturday but then up at 5 am on Sunday. Ugh.

  2. Congrats to your friends! I love the sign you did in the window. :)

Some American folks decided to have a firework display here in my town the other night as well. Once again, Lola high-tailed it for the guest room to seek cover.

I cannot stay up that late!! Last night I was in bed by 11, lol.

    1. Aw poor Lola! Our neighbor set off some and Christmas was RIGHT at the window watching. Don't ask me where Jelly was. :)

  3. I was picked for a jury last year...it was really boring! The case was a civil trial between two construction companies. It lasted about 3 weeks and I was there from like 9-6 every day.
I am always looking for new books to read. I read a bunch in June but I wouldn't say any were amazing.
I have no idea how you stay up so late! I was up until 11 this weekend and that was way too late for me!

    1. It all started with a night of insomnia and my sleep just got screwed up from there!

See, your jury story is probably more the reality than what I picture in my mind!

  4. WOW that playset looks like it belongs at a park! Your bro is super talented.

I thought of you this weekend when I was playing a computer game called Her Story. I never play any computer or video games but Adam begged me to play this one when he was done. You watch a series of police videos, take notes, and then try to piece together what happened during the week of a murder and who did it. I played for like 3 hours straight! It's super addicting. The game only costs $5. You and Paul should definitely play!!!!! http://www.herstorygame.com!!

  5. In Scotland I had currant jam all the time, but I've never had the berries whole. They look really yummy!

  6. I am so sorry you have been a victim of a crime. :( I will admit I have no idea what that feels like. I can totally see why you don't get on juries! No defense team wants the wife of a retired police officer! I feel like I am a catch 22 as far as them wanting me for a jury. On one hand, I love reading true crime novels and watching cases on TV- Nancy Grace, 48 Hours, Dateline, I followed the Jodi Arias and Casey Anthony trial... Read all the OJ books, love reading about criminal profiling, etc, etc, etc... BUT I have a close family member who has spent time in prison so on the other hand I am very empathetic and have realized that justice is not ALWAYS fair- on both sides. So in my heart of hearts I think I could be a good jury member, but everyone is biased in some way, so I am sure depending on the case, my own personal biases could possibly creep in!

  7. That was so nice of you and Paul to help celebrate your friend’s recent marriage. What kind of games did you all play? I am a big fan of game night and wish I could have joined. ;)

I have been called to Jury Duty once this year, but fortunately was able to get out of it because of pregnancy. I basically played the “I’m an emotional pregnant social psychologist” card and they released me before I could blink. Under different circumstances I might have actually enjoyed the experience, but I was a wreck at the time.

You are such a night owl. I can’t remember the last time I stayed up past midnight. Haha. Of course, I get up every day at 6am like clockwork.

Glad you had a great weekend!

  8. I can understand why they may have not wanted you on a jury at that particular time! ;) Otherwise, I bet you would be a GREAT juror!

We play games like Catchphrase, Smartass, Guesstimation... party games like that. :)

  9. Yes sentencing is NOT fair. :( It is really sad.
