The dream began at the start line of the Last Man Standing race. I ran this race last year. This isn't an ordinary race. Here's the description from the website:
"The course is approximately 1.6 miles long and participants will have 20 minutes (12.5 minutes/mile) to complete the first lap. However, the time limit will decrease by one minute per lap and participants can not start laps early. Lap two has a 19-minute time limit, lap three has a 18-minute time limit, and so on. Make it in before the cutoff and you continue to the next lap."
The "real" race course is half trail, half pavement, but all in the woods. But in my dream, the start line was in the middle of a town.
The gun went off and I realized I didn't have a bib. I had forgotten to enter! So I quickly filled out an entry form and then ran as fast as I could to catch up with everyone. I asked the volunteers how long the first loop would be and they said it was a surprise. Each loop was going to be a different route and a different distance. Wow, that's a lot of surprises!
My parents were at the start line crewing for me. I left my hydration pack with my mom and wondered if I should have taken it with me.
So it turns out this race wasn't just a running race. There was swimming and crafts involved too! At one point on the course we had to swim laps in the pool... but we had to hold on to a kick board and only kick. There were two girls ahead of me and one of them was cheating by skipping laps. It was making me really mad.
Then I got to the craft portion, where I had to add tinsel to a Christmas tree drawn on a paper plate. I wanted to skip the craft section of the race but figured that would be just as shitty as the girl that was cheating in the pool.
Part of the race also included my parents driving me in the car. My dad took a wrong turn and I almost didn't make it to the finish line by the end of the 20 minutes it was supposed to take to run the first loop. Luckily I made it.
After the first loop, I took my shoes off so I could put on my compression socks. Compression socks are so hard to get on, and in my dream, I would put them on but they would fall off again. Finally I got them on and it was time to tie my shoes... except my shoe laces were broken and I didn't have extra! I started the second loop but unfortunately I could not run with broken shoelaces so I stopped and walked back to the finish line, crying.
The whole time this dream was going on, my dad was complaining about not feeling well. Every ten minutes he would have a partial seizure! WTF!!!!!????
I woke up feeling quite... off.
Do you ever have crazy running dreams?
If you eat/drink something specific before bed, does it give you weird dreams?

Running, swimming AND crafts--OMG, sign me up for that race! Too bad no baking. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHahahah part of the race included your parents driving you in the car! I have a really bad memory so I can't remember any running dreams I've had although I know I've had them. I think they've all been boring dreams where I am out running my normal route on the days that I feel guilty about having to skip a run!
ReplyDeleteI read that if you lay perfectly still as soon as you wake up you are more likely to remember your dreams. :)
DeleteOh this is great! I don't think I've ever dreamed about running before.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you should start a race that includes making a Christmas crafts!
I hate crafts! How about Christmas DECORATING? First person who can trim the tree moves on!
DeleteHahahaha! I love that crafts were part of the race! Crying right now. This is great!
ReplyDeleteHaha glad I could make you laugh this morning!
DeleteI don't even know where to begin... this is hilarious!! I picture you rolling around asleep in your bed trying to tie your blanket up in knots! I usually don't have many dreams that I remember. I do often think about that Last Man Standing race. I'd love to have one around here, but I was told by our running club that it would exclude a lot of people who don't consider themselves "fast". Need to keep it more "include everyone" kind of thing. Hey, there's no harm in challenging people (against each other) once in awhile! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! There's nothing wrong with competition... isn't there competition in EVERY race???
DeleteI had one before my first half. It was a Disney race, and I've been to WDW many times before. But my dream had a weird set up and the parks didn't look anything like they do in real life.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird how in dreams we can be somewhere but it looks NOTHING like what it actually is... even though you know what WDW looks like, you dreamed up something completely different!
DeleteThat is LOCO! I love it. I think we all have crazy weird dreams every night but the only time we actually remember them is when we get woken up mid-dream. That's what I heard, anyway.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I don't know if I woke up in the middle or what. Even if I did wake up, I may not remember that I did.
DeleteI've heard about the food- dream connection but can't say I ever pinpointed that for myself. Dreams are so fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThey truly are. Sometimes i can figure out why I came up with the dream and other times i just think I'm crazy!
DeleteIt's 1.6 miles.
ReplyDeleteOw, no sports bra!?
Wow thats really strange! I usually have race dreams leading up to a race and something is always weird about them. I remember one time the race in my dream involved stairs!
ReplyDeleteI've dreamed about stairs in races too!
DeleteWow!! That is one intense dream! Were you thinking about not wanting to do crafts?
ReplyDeleteI once had a dream that I was running a 10k, and there were only 4 other runners in the race. They let me run first, because I was the slowest runner, but once I started running, my Legs were moving, but my body wasn't moving. It woke me up.
Of course I wanted to skip the crafts. I'm not crafty and I don't like crafts hehe.
DeleteI have the dreams where my legs aren't moving too! So frustrating. I also have the go to work naked dreams- ugh!!!
The crafty swim run challenge! You need to trademark it. Solid gold.
ReplyDeleteI know, wtf??
DeleteWow, that's quite the dream. I wouldn't have woken feeling refreshed after, either. I used to interpret dreams for my friends in college. It's a little psychology and a lot of literary analysis ;) From your dream, I take away that you're feeling stressed and pressed for time, there are a lot of things going on making you anxious, and even the things you usually enjoy aren't relieving the stress as much as you'd like, or are even making it worse.
ReplyDeleteIf any of that is true, I hope you treat yourself to something nice and relaxing!
I did not know you were a dream interpreter! I don't *feel* stressed but maybe I am. The other night I also dreamed one of my teeth fell out! I know that's a big thing people dream about and it's supposed to mean something...
DeleteI used to dream I was losing teeth or chewing foil all the time! I've heard teeth = money, so if you dream about teeth you're stressed about money or thinking about money. But I tend to associate teeth with general stress!
