This recap is super short! My posts got mixed around due to the holidays. I will be back on track next week, I promise!
Before I go through my workouts, I took on the long and tedious task of adding up my monthly/yearly mileage for 2016. How did I do this? By looking back at old Weekly Workout posts. Ugh, it was so time consuming, and I had to start over a couple times because I lost track, but I think I have the numbers correct...
Jan- 119.25
Feb- 141
March- 167.25
April- 129.53
May- 135
June- 116 (plantar fasciitis + recovery)
July- 139
Aug- 86 (I quit Hansons and did not feel like running.)
Sept- 153.5 (Okay, I like running again!)
Oct- 151.1
Nov- 149
Dec- 151 (I'm adding on the 9 miles I plan to run today with my dad.)
*Note: The mileage does not include walks and hikes!*

It's interesting to see I have been running 4 months in a row consistently with higher mileage than I was when I got PF. Maybe this is working because I'm not doing speed work or tempo runs? Or because I have committed to only running 5 days a week? Or maybe it was just a fluke that I got PF. Interesting things to ponder...
2016 mileage total = 1637.63
I'm not sure what this number means? Last year I did not add up my mileage. I could go back and do that now, but I really don't feel like it! I've had enough math for one day.
Okay, workout time!
Monday- 6 chilly miles. I guess I wouldn't have been so chilly if I hadn't worn shorts! I didn't really feel like running but I did it. Weird. I think I don't *need* running as much when I am not working and I am more relaxed in general.
Tuesday- 8 (ish) miles in Harpers Ferry. Paul and I took an impromptu trip down to West Virginia. More on this run in an upcoming post!
Thursday- Chest @ home. I woke up to a winter wonderland. I really wasn't expecting that! Luckily, since I had done a lot of running this past week and a half, it was another good day to lift at home. I did push ups, chest press, shoulder press, tricep dips, and some hip/glute/core stuff.
Friday- 6 Gamin-less miles. I overdressed. But good news! I can do couch stretch again! Remember how my toe was bothering me? Well I was unable to do couch stretch for over a month due to my freaking toe! But it isn't tight like it was before so I am doing this very important stretch again.

Since this is my last post of the year, I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers for popping in here at Meg Go Run day after day. I really appreciate your friendship! I hope we can make those connections even stronger in 2017!
See ya on the other side!
Do you couch stretch?
When was the last time you ran Garmin-less?
Did you add up your monthly/yearly mileage? What did you learn from it?

This post is so appropriate today because I just sat down to my computer to upload the last of my runs from my Garmin and to calculate my miles. I have a feeling that this year will be the least amount of miles I have run over the years because my marathon was first thing in January this year and then after that I just wanted to relax and run small distances. Plus, this summer was SO hot that I didn't get a lot of miles in even thought I ran consistently. Glad that your toe is better and that you can do your stretches again! Here's to a happy and healthy 2017!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have some down time! I didn't realize how "down" my August was until I added it up. Oh well, I needed it. And it sounds like you needed some down time after your race, too. And you were injury free! Have a Happy New Year, Meranda!
DeleteI haven't run Garmin-less in forever! It is kind of a freeing feeling to do that but I like having something for Strava, I guess. Well, I don't wear the garmin on the treadmill but don't think that counts haha since it does the work for the Garmin. I'm going to try out that wall stretch too, I've been doing the ITBS recovery routine and it really does work- so happy to be logging miles again!
ReplyDeleteYou had a big year of ups and downs with Plantar then Hansons but you're doing so well now with running and workouts. I love how you don't put so much pressure on yourself with it :).
I hate pressure so much! I mainly want to be happy. Sometimes having a serious goal makes me happy but apparently right now it doesn't. Have you shared your ITBS routine on your blog? I'd like to read exactly what you do. I'm glad it is working!
DeleteI think I would have an anxiety attack if I ran without my Garmin! lol. I love how dedicated you are to your strength training. I need to do much more of that. Happy New Year Meg!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my word, maybe you should work on that for next year?? Haha. Does it make you feel better if I told you I mapped out a route so I knew I would do 6 miles?
DeleteYou had an amazing year, Megan and as always, it's super fun to follow along with your training and your life's adventures. Thank you for giving us your time and sharing! I did end up adding up my miles (I keep a log on a .xlsx so it wasn't hard). I ended up with the following miles: running (766), swimming (75) and cycling (686). I don't know how this compares to other years because I don't look back. Each year brings entirely different circumstances and so I really just try to accept what the year was able to give me and move forward with the hope that 2017 will be filled with lots of fun training and a healthy body!
ReplyDeleteThank you for engaging every day AND for being my friend! I definitely understand your reason for not looking back. It totally makes sense! I ended up finding it interesting to see how many miles I ran each month. I really had no clue. I know I add them up for my blog each week but once I type the post, it's out of my mind. You got in lots of awesome miles, Susan! Wait, how many rowing miles!?
DeleteOh yeah, 124 miles of rowing and 175 days of strength training! How could I miss that?!?
DeleteYou are so well rounded!
DeleteYou had a really solid, awesome year of running and fitness. I'm impressed :) I hope you have a happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ali! I can't complain, that is for sure.
DeleteWhat an incredible year of running! Your total miles run is quite impressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLook at all those miles! When we're chipping away with 3, 5 and even 10+ milers during the week it's hard to imagine that it will all add up into the hundreds or thousands by the end of the year! I did not track my overall mileage this year. I wonder if there is a way to get Garmin to tally it all up?
ReplyDeleteI am certain there is a way. I'm also certain I don't know how to do it!
DeleteI can't believe you don't keep track of your miles! But at the same time I admire your drive and dedication to run !!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ana. I used to keep track of all of them. I think next yr I will donly a better job. I need to remember how annoying it was adding it up from workout posts at the end of the year.
DeleteI ran just under 900 miles this year, which is much less than any other year that Ive been keeping track of my running. But considering all that happened, its still a pretty good number. There were a bunch of months that I ran like 30 miles- which used to be my weekly mileage! Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great number! And you did so much lifting and cross training which is only going to enhance your running. I've definitely had years when I ran higher mileage but you know what? I wasn't lifting two days a week back then! I try to be well rounded and I know you do too!
