Happy Monday!
I hope you all had an enjoyable, relaxing, weekend. I also hope you got some good runs in!
Many of you are marathon training and you are getting into the really high mileage
at this point. I can't wait to read about your long run! My "long" run this weekend was 10 miles... which is not that long!
Here's what we were up to this weekend...
Last week was a very long week at school and Friday was particularly crazy. (Which of course I can't tell you about since it is work related, but let's just say it was a whirlwind day!)
We really wanted to "live it up" Friday night since Paul is having surgery next week and we won't be able to do anything too crazy for awhile. Our definition of living it up is heading down to the sushi restaurant near our house for the second weekend in a row. It was so good.
On the way home, we stopped at DQ for Blizzards. This is the second night in a row we got Blizzards! The flavor of the month is Apple Pie, so that is what I got. It even had whipped cream on top. Guys, I am in love.
It's upside down because it is advertised as "Upside Down Thick"
Then we went home and watched Seinfeld while we ate our ice cream. It was just what we needed- a homey Friday night. We were in bed and sound asleep before 11:00. That's just how we've been rolling lately!
Due to the extremely early hour we went to bed, Paul and I were both wide awake at 6:30. We laid there for a minute and then Paul said, "I'm getting up." I suddenly craved French toast and suggested we go out for breakfast. (I totally thought Paul would say no.) "I was just thinking we should go out for breakfast!" he exclaimed. Great minds think alike!
He got eggs benedict and I got the French toast I was dreaming of. I also ate four pieces of REAL FATTY BACON. It was so good.
With all those carbs, you'd think I'd have a ton of energy to go for my long run. Not so. I was just feeling lazy and tired! The weather was cool and rainy. I just wanted to stay home.
I procrastinated for a couple hours by running errands and doing some house work, but finally it was time to just go run. It ended up being a really good run! I did ten miles at an 8:18 pace, and I didn't feel like I was pushing myself. It felt like a "La la la" pace. "La la la" pace means the pace you just naturally can run easily. My long run "La la la" pace can be anywhere from an 8:20-8:50. It just depends how I feel.
The night, our friends Bob and Rachel came over to chill. We got our new fire pit going and roasted marshmallows. It was great to just sit and chill with damn good friends. Oh, and I ate at least ten marshmallows. I make them BLACK and then I eat them.
Sunday was GET SHIT DONE day. We are leaving for Baltimore on Tuesday, which means there was so much to be done. The house needed cleaned, I had to do wash, mow the lawn, tend to the garden... Wash the sheets and pillow cases so our house sitter doesn't have to lay in a bed of Christmas and Jelly hair... I packed... I CLEANED THE SHOWER! I even rolled the fridge out and cleaned behind it- the first time in the entire 6 years we lived here. (What I saw back there (and smelled) I will never ever discuss!) I basically did not sit down except for the time it took me to write this post.
Don't worry, I also got a good workout in. I went to Planet Fitness and did a full body strength training workout. I won't be able to lift for a week and a half, so this was my last chance to get jacked.
Paul spends Sundays watching football, but we did reconvene to watch Big Brother later that night. Frankie is so going home and I am EXTREMELY EXCITED!
How do you enjoy your marshmallows?
What's your favorite Blizzard flavor?
What is your "La la la" pace?
Did you ever clean behind your fridge?
Matt and I love staying in and watching Seinfeld. :) This is totally weird but yesterday I went to lunch with a friend and I had French toast with real fatty bacon too! Great minds think alike. ;)
ReplyDeleteWow that is awesome! We must have been Rungry. :)
DeleteI have been thinking of you both for the upcoming week. Sending all my love & positive energy to you both! Please keep us updated as you feel comfortable.
ReplyDeleteBlack marshmallows!
Haven't had a DQ blizzard in a very, very long time. I am lactose intolerant :(
My "la la" pace for walk/runs is about 11:30 / mile. This is about 2/3 mile running + 1/3 walking so I think my running pace is right around 10 / mile. Girl is sloooow but I am totally OK with that. With my cranky hamstring/hip, the minute I try to push and go fast, my body says "stop" in the form of some kind of issue that will keep me achy and not running. So slow is how I roll.
Hugs!
Oh no! Too bad they don't make lactose free blizzards. I totally understand your predicament- when I was coming back from my injury (heck I am still coming back from it!) slow and steady was KEY.
DeleteI spent the weekend relaxing and watching Orange is the new black :)
ReplyDeleteOh my word you just reminded me my husband and I haven't even made it through season two yet. We are just not as into it as we were last year.
DeleteWhen I see ads for the pumpkin pie blizzards, I always want one but then I remember the reality of them is not so great. I bought some pink lemonade marshmallows earlier this summer and still have not used them yet!
ReplyDeleteAre the pumpkin pie ones not very good? I have had pumpkin ice cream before and I do enjoy it in SMALL doses. Pink lemonade marshmallows!? That's no joke!
DeleteI don't like marshmallows! Is that weird? I won't even eat them if they are in a cup of hot chocolate. I scoop them out! Then again, I also wipe the icing off of cupcakes. When I do that Adam says "now you're just eating a muffin!" which I guess is kinda true :)
ReplyDelete(Sending positive thoughts your way. I hope that everything goes really smoothly for you and Paul this week.)
It's not that weird since marshmallows have a weird texture and kind of a weird taste! What IS weird is taking the icing off your cupcake. That's the best part!!!
DeleteWe built a fire pit this summer and still have not used it! Crazy, right?!
ReplyDeleteI'm slowly healing from an achilles injury, so my pace hasn't been too crazy as of late;) I have been feeling sorry for myself lately when I read about my friends long runs lol! Such a pity party over in my corner of the world. My friend Heather (Girl Goes Running) has mentioned your blog a few times to me so I am checking it out! :)
Oh girl, I have been there with the injury thing. Just rest up and you will be back at it. That first long run will feel amazing!
DeleteHoping all goes well with Paul's surgery... will keep both of you in my thoughts...
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne :)
DeleteI did not stay in this weekend, which is a far cry from my usual weekends. I am paying for it today. For some reason, the lack of sleep always catches up to me on the second day! My la la pace is also around 8:30. I always feel like I am crawling at that speed, but my fast friend that I've been running lately likes to warm up around that pace, so I've been running it more often. Crazy how much farther you can run when you don't start off too fast... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hear you! My long runs are much more enjoyable if I just chill out and run easy.
DeleteMy lalala pace is somewhere between 8:20 and 9 depending on weather mostly :) I like that way of putting it!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks! Next time you are running easy you won't be able to stop thinking "la la la!"
DeleteUh oh I never even thought to move my stove. I guess it DOES move, right? Haha. Marshmallow fluff right out of a jar is no joke. You are my hero.
ReplyDeleteI love DQ! For some reason Fro-yo has taken over down here and there's barely any real ice cream places anymore. Fro-yo is just not the same! My favorite blizzard is the cookie dough. I also catch my marshmallows on fire and then eat them!
ReplyDeleteI never had fro yo! I don't get the fascination. It is not healthier than ice cream. Just get ice cream!
DeleteI like my marshmallows totally charred - gooey on the inside and black on the outside!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, I don't really like Blizzards because I don't like ice cream:)
