If I
had to use one word to sum up this tempo run it would be RELIEVED.
Before
yesterday, I ran twice in the past week. One run was HORRIBLE and
the other run was okay. Before I even started, I had already convinced myself that my
tempo run was going to be extremely painful and I wouldn’t hit my pace.
However,
I was WRONG, and I knew I was wrong as soon as my feet hit the pavement. My legs
felt so light and running felt effortless.
It was a great feeling to have. I actually had to force myself to slow down my
first mile. Don't worry, I soaked in the entire experience because who knows when such an effortless run will happen again!

was over the moon because after my third mile at pace, I felt like I could easily do
two more miles at pace. I really think this is due to having so many rest days recently. It just solidifies my plan to completely rest for 3 days before the event. I always do that before a race no matter how long/short it is. Heck, I even did it before the mile- in which I PR'ed with a 5:41! I cannot say more about how resting really helps me out.
My next hard workout is 400s and I think I am going to do them on Monday. Hopefully they make me feel like vomiting... because that is the point of 400s, right!?

When was the last time you ran and it felt effortless? Before yesterday, I can't think of the last time! That's pretty bad...
Do you have a certain number of days you rest before a race? I've been resting for three days for every race ever since I PR'ed in the marathon. I do it partly because it works and partly because of superstition!

ReplyDeleteI don't know about "before" a race but I was just told yesterday about running "after" races. So if you run 26.2 miles then you should take 26 rest days afterwards. If you run a half marathon then you should take 13 rest days afterwards? What do you think about that? I never heard of it before?
ReplyDeleteI personally think that is a little extreme! Except for the instance of injury, I don't see why someone would need to rest for almost a month after. I think you should definitely listen to your own body as far as how long to rest after a race. And of course, it depends how hard you push it during the race. I know for me personally, if I ran a half for "fun" I would feel fine the next day. If I was trying to PR, I would definitely need several rest days afterwards. What an interesting question!

I don't usually do the total rest thing but I've tried it this time around - I will find out later today if it worked!

ReplyDeleteWow, your times are great! There's nothing better than runs that just feel effortless! Had a more difficult tempo run today but it's the bad runs which help you appreciate the good ones :)
