Hey all! I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday 5 2.0!
I dreamed of a day where I didn't think about food all. day. long. I didn't think it was possible.
But with a lot of hard work, it turns out it was possible for me to get over those obsessive habits.
On Saturday, I did something I never could have done four years ago...
I didn't workout and I went clothes shopping!
I know I won't ever be 100% recovered, but I feel pretty damn good right now. What a victory!
Tell me something awesome you have overcome!
I am so proud of you! It's a big huge deal. As you know, I was addicted to exercise for many years and worked out 2 hours each day. 90 minutes in the morning and then a 30 minute swim every afternoon. Now I take rest days, and the days I workout I am done at 45-60 minutes. I honestly didn't think that was possible when I was in the throws of my addiction but with determination, it totally is!
ReplyDeleteI very much admire how you have come to have a healthier relationship with exercise. You have an extremely well rounded routine!
DeleteMany (including me) will get it; many won't. Overcoming disordered eating or an eating disorder is so tough, because we have to eat & we have to be around food!
ReplyDeleteI hope you got some really cute clothes. :)
You're right, it is different because we HAVE to eat. Thanks Judy!
DeleteI spent many years of my younger life in the same destructive thought pattern. So glad to hear you are making great strides in moving into a healthier mindset about your body xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah! I'm glad you got past it as well.
DeleteYou should be so proud of yourself! Such a huge accomplishment and positive step.
ReplyDeleteThanks girl!
DeleteThat is a huge accomplishment and I know it must feel good to be able to do that. Whenever I can do something "normal" I feel a sense of relief rush over me. Like, okay I'm really DOING THIS like a normal person, yes!! Of course normal people probably don't cheer themselves on like that but you know... it's a step in the right direction haha!
ReplyDeleteThe times when I feel the most NOT NORMAL is when I do something outside my comfort zone and I realize that normal people do this all the time lol.
DeleteYou're doing a great job, and those clothes look cute, especially that dress. We can be so hard on ourselves, and small steps is a good start.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lesley!
DeleteI get it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, trying on clothes is tough. We are always our own worst critics and it stinks to like an item on the rack and have it not look good in the fitting room. I'm super short and it's hard to find clothes in general that are not too long. I have a weird thing about mirrors as well, and on days when I just don't feel good about my body, I will work out in the back corner of the Planet Fitness, away from all the mirrors. I know it's there to check form when you lift, but it's still tough.
You are so strong Meg! Especially your upper body/shoulders. All the outfits look great on you as well.... I hope you bought them.
I can totally imagine how it would be hard to find clothes to fit your height. I am an average height (5'5) and there are still pants that are too long on me or that would only be the right length if I wore heels. I hate to hear that there are days you don't feel good about your body, but obviously I get it because I feel that way sometimes too.
DeleteThank you, Amy! I actually didn't buy a single thing! I do wish I would have gotten the dress.
That's a HUGE victory. Congrats, girl!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
DeleteThe Megan I know is such a confident young women and I hate to hear that there were/are times that you don't feel good about yourself, but then on the other hand I get it. Trying on clothes is a hard thing to do because I think we all are a bit too harsh on ourselves. I hate trying on clothes.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I know I do feel like I am a generally a confident person but it's really a mental health issue that I wish I had total control of.
DeleteI am so glad you're able to take a rest day and just do something fun. I think rest days are just as important as keeping up a physical fitness routine ;)
