On the second day of school, the students got dismissed due to air quality control issues... aka... MOLD.
On the third day of school, I got a 5:43am phone call informing us the entire district would be closed. Hours later we got another call telling us school would be closed Thursday too.
What a way to start the school year!
Yes, we will have to make up these days... which is why I don't feel bad about sharing with you what I did on this surprise day off. I may as well make the most of it, right!?
After a stinky run (trash day in my hood), I went to hang out with Katrina at her pool. Katrina teaches phys ed at our school and we have become pretty good friends over all these years working together.
Let's drink to mold!
Paul was there too but he didn't want to blind you with his pasty whiteness!
We don't go out to eat much, let alone on a weekday, but we decided to splurge that evening and have sushi.
The one bad thing about sushi is that it doesn't matter how many times I wash my hands, they still smell like sushi for the rest of the night.
When we got home, Paul and I watched some TV. Look at my little baby! He looks a little concerned in this photo.
You see I am drinking a diet soda. I am DEEP in a diet soda hole right now. For some reason, I decided to buy a bunch of 12 packs and now all I do is just drink diet soda all day long. I can't stop! I don't want to stop! But I want to want to stop... if that makes sense.
The good part about having off tomorrow is that I can take Paul to his doctor appointments in Baltimore. He has been doing monthly rounds of chemo pretty much all through spring and summer. Tomorrow he gets an MRI and meets with his doctor to see if things are going well. I feel like they are. He doesn't have as many symptoms as he did before.
I'm gonna wrap this up so I can go stir up my Blizzard before we watch Big Brother. That's right, we went to DQ. Don't hate.
This is the song we like to blast on the way home from DQ...
Do you like Mika?
What's your favorite Blizzard flavor?
What do you like to do on a surprise day off?
What a fun way to spend a surprise day off! Um, I have never heard of Mika. Does that age me or just prove I basically listen to either alternative or classic rock (with show tunes sprinkled in for good measure). I can't eat Blizzards so I was a bit jealous when I read you had them. If someone invited me to the pool on a surprise day off, I would go in a heartbeat...else, I would go to a movie (shocker, I know).
ReplyDeleteI don't think it ages you. I don't know many people that listen to Mika! I think I heard one of his songs on a commercial so I looked him up. His one album called Life in Cartoon Motion is really good. I like every single song on there- which is weird I think to like every song on an album!
DeleteI know you love your movies!! I don't think I have the attention span anymore to go to the movies! It has to be one I really want to see. I think the last movie I saw in the theater was... hmm.... That new Jurrasic Park movie?
I love surprise days off! i feel no pressure to be productive like I do when I have a planned day off. Hope the doctor goes well! You can wave to me as you drive down 83:)
ReplyDeleteHaha I did think of you as we were approaching Baltimore!!
DeleteGeez, we have snow days here but mold days? Who knew it was a thing?
ReplyDeleteApparently our HVAC is all screwed up which is causing the mold problem. I hope we don't have much snow this year or else we will be making up school days until July!
DeleteYikes! I live a surprise day off every now and then, but it's never good when it's the start of the school year and you know you already have to make it up. What about snow?
ReplyDeleteI agree! I'd rather have a surprise day off in Feb when we really need a break... not the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days of school!
DeleteThat is so awesome to get surprise days off!!!! I love that song!
ReplyDeleteI bet Lola would like Lollipop too :)
DeleteI want a Blizzard now! We have a DQ in Summerville and that's on my way home from a race Saturday so maybe I will treat myself. You just can't beat sushi either and it's been awhile since I had that. Glad you had a surprise day off and got to have some fun but also take care of Paul with all of his appointments- it sounds like the mold issue worked out for the best.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely treat yourself with a BLizzard! Now they have "Royal Blizzards" which are pretty much stuffed with something extra in the middle. That's what Paul got. I just got a normal one. Royal Blizzards come with gold plastic spoons instead of red. Paul let me have his gold spoon. :) He likes to eat his with real silverware but I think it tastes better with the plastic! Haha! I am weird.
DeleteThat's pretty damn cool that you got some days off of work. YAY! I love diet pop too. I grew up on it, and I'm addicted to the flavour of the chemicals. Let me know how Paul's MRI goes!
ReplyDeleteAddicted to chemicals... hahaha! Maybe I am too!
DeleteGood for you - you did it up good!! Sounds like a great day. With a feeling of deviousness! Well done ;) Now that my kids are back in school I have to think of ways to be productive on my Friday off. I mean, I have tons of things "to do", but I need a good mix of relaxation and productivity. Besides running for 3 hours that is :(
ReplyDeleteDo you get Fri-Sun off? What a nice little treat! I understand having things to do but not really wanting to do them! I try not to do TOO much housework on my days off because Paul tends to do housework while I am at school so I sometimes save it for him... Talk about devious!
DeleteHow fun!! I love unexpected days off!! You made a whole fun day of it!
ReplyDeleteHow many diet Pepsis do you have left?
We have had "Water main break" days, also had "there is flees on the other side of the building" days and my favorite... "somebody found a dead bedbug" day. I didn't question any of it, just packed my stuff and left.
I hope everything goes well at Paul's appointment today.
great song and really cool video!
We bought diet orange, mtn shoutin, and root beer. We have a bunch of diet root beers left. I know when they are gone I should not buy more but I probably will...
DeleteLOL you guys have some interesting days!!! I think our school's most interesting is "a squirrel messed up the electric wires" day.
Ja ja!! Please send electric wire eating squirrel our way!
DeleteI was all excited a few years ago when we moved to Cameron street, because it used to get flooded and closed a lot, but it stopped doing that after we moved here! Damn you civil engineers who fixed the flooding issue in Cameron Street!
I don't know who Mika is. Glad that you will be able to go to Paul's appointment with him. Tomorrow is my last day of vacation before school starts on Tuesday. I don't know what I'm gonna do but I feel like I need to make it a good one!
ReplyDeleteOh man, enjoy your last couple days! I suspect you will lounge by the pool with a good book in the company of your Baylee girl. :)
DeleteWe mostly have snow days too! Very rare to have a day off and be able to swim!! Get this... We have off until Tuesday! They did air samples and theyre not good!
ReplyDeleteAren't blizzards just a little slice of heaven??? I'm all about the chocolate ice cream with Reese's cups. If it's a good day, I get a small, but if it's a bad day, it's all about the medium :)
ReplyDeleteSurprise day off depends on the weather - your day looks AMAZING (totally jealous), but if it's raining, I love heading to the movies! Glad you enjoyed it!
A small is the perfect size for me. When I eat a medium, I feel like I overdid it!
DeleteI can't believe that didn't handle this over the summer!
ReplyDeleteWe might have our first hurricane day on Monday. I hate missing school for things like that because I don't like when they take away the day off that's built in the year later on when we really need a break!
I saw that! I hope you stay safe! I agree it is better to have days off later in the year when you truly need them. As for our mold situation, apparently they did a walk through on Aug 10th and didn't see anything. They think the mold grew within that two week period due to it being soooo humid. As for the other schools, I'm not sure. Because it was found in more than one school!
