The up side to not having any podcasts to distract me during my running is that it actually has me thinking about running more... thus leading me to great blog post ideas! Another blogger recently asked me how I manage to blog every day. The answer is I HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE!!! Lately, I either have a ton of ideas and blogs scheduled a week and a half in advance, or I have no ideas and have to try to come up with something daily. I like it though. It's a good challenge so far!
So anyway, having no podcasts during a run helps me brainstorm blog ideas, and it is exactly what inspired my post today: 4 Reasons I Run.
Now, I have written a "Why I Run" post before, but this was probably over two years ago. I can't even bare to go back and look what I wrote. Reading things I wrote a long time ago makes me feel very self conscious because I either don't like my writing style or I don't feel the same way about the topic as I feel now. But that's the cool thing about blogging- you can look back at your past and see the journey. I really don't want to look back right now though! You can if you want to: Why I Run.
I have determined that right now, there are 4 main reasons I run. These are listed in no particular order because the truth is, some days the main reason I lace up my running shoes is because of Reason #1 and some days it's because of Reason #4.
Reason #1: I love running. Plain and simple.
Reason #2: Running makes me feel strong and confident- physically and mentally. When I am doing a tough run, I feel like I can tackle anything! I feel like Wonder Woman! I feel like I am the shit. That may be a little dramatic, but running really makes me feel like I can conquer whatever I set my mind to.
Reason #3: It helps me control certain aspects of my health. It's not the only thing that keeps me healthy, but we all know the health benefits of regular exercise- whatever that exercise may be.
Reason #4: Running helps me maintain a certain physique. I know that sounds shallow and superficial, but I am being completely honest here. I like making sure my body looks a certain way and running is part of the reason it looks the way it does. (I am not insinuating my body is perfect or that it looks exactly like I want it to look.)
So that's the word. That's my relationship with running right now!
Bloggers: Do you cringe when reading old posts?
I run because it's fun!
ReplyDeleteSo simple!
DeleteI don't think it's shallow to say that running (or any exercise) helps you physically look how you want to look. That's really why people torture themselves with it ;o)
ReplyDeleteI run because I used to think I couldn't. It really does prove to me that limitations are all in the head.
I have enjoyed reading your posts in which you describe how you got into running. It is true. Any limitation we set for ourselves is our own doing!
DeleteI also don't know how you blog every day! Some days I just feel like I have nothing to say. I cringe alot of times when reading old posts- especially when I look at the quality of the pics I used to take!
ReplyDeleteI cringe too, especially when I read something where I come off as sounding a know it all.
DeleteContent is not usually a problem when it comes to blogging, it's usually the time aspect we struggle with. Yes, I admit I have gone back and deleted some old post that were in my opinion very poor quality...lol. I'm still debating on why I run!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure I could delete a couple posts buuuuuuut then does it still count as blogging every day? Why do I care about that so much!? Haha
DeleteSeriously, I am always so impressed that you find the time and ideas to blog every day. It’s pretty impressive. Some weeks I am full of ideas, while others I feel like a blank page. It all depends. I completely relate to all four of the reasons you run! There are so many positive rewards and benefits to gain from running (and exercise in general). Running definitely helps me to see the world from a different angle and explore places I might not otherwise go.
ReplyDeleteI know not all my posts are deep or though provoking, but hopefully I have a good balance. I have learned that it's okay too make things short and sweet too!
DeleteI haven't been blogging for long but even going back a year ago I feel embarrassed reading old posts.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy!? I am totally the same.
DeleteI run to deal with frustration and stress, I run to stay in shape, and I like the way it feels to be fit. I run to keep up with my kids. I run BECAUSE I HAVE @ TEENS AND A TWEEN. I run to clear my head. Running makes me feel empowered.
ReplyDeleteAll very great reasons to run! I am sure if I had kids like you I would have even MORE reasons to run!
DeleteHa ha! Totally cringe when I read my really old stuff off blogspot that I had started in like, 2005. It's cool to have it all as a keepsake though. I love running because it helps me manage my anxiety disorder but I also love running because I feel powerful sometimes when I'm out there. And I have so much crap and stress in the rest of my life that it makes me feel good when I get that 30 minutes of powerful feeling. I'm like, I can do this.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate! And even if I can't run for whatever reasons, I can think of races I powered through and be like- THAT WAS ME! If I can do that, I can do anything!
DeleteLove this! I love running because of the places it's taken me and the friendships/bonds I've made through the sport. I also love how it always shows me that with some hard work, anything is possible!!!
ReplyDeleteOh so many good reasons! Everyone is just adding to my list and I am nodding along. I guess it is impossible to really describe WHY we do what we do. There are so many good reasons we do it.
DeleteI think you nailed it on the reasons. I completely agree. In fact, I will just copy and paste them into my blog for my next post ;) I also enjoy inspiring other people to start running and encouraging my kids to have healthy habits.
ReplyDeleteHaha go for it!
DeleteIf I had kids, I would surely feel the same as you- wanting them to have healthy habits.
I love the reasons why you run and I don't think there is anything wrong with saying it helps you look the way you want. I think part of the reason everyone runs is because it helps with that!
ReplyDeleteI haaaaaate reading old posts - so cringe worthy . I can't do it. The farthest back I will read is about a week! haha
When people email in to say they went through and read my blog from the beginning i'm like OMG WHY?!!? So embarrassing!
I am one of those people that does that! When I find a blog I like, it's on. Reading it all. It's the over achiever in me. :)
DeleteAll great reasons, Meg! I truly think my blood sugar and cholesterol would be higher if I did not run. Not to mention, I'd be heavier. I definitely started for health reasons, but I love the endorphin high and the confidence boost as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that maybe the reason we started running isn't even the reason we keep running! Or there are just more reasons added on the longer we do it. :)
