This is a very short, picture-less wrap up! (Though there are two videos!)
But don't let the brevity and lack of pictures trick you- I still thoroughly enjoyed my weekend!

I spent Friday morning in the longest meeting ever. In the afternoon I had a short meeting and then time to work in my classroom. I'm not totally ready for the kids on Monday morning, but will I ever really be ready? No. But I'm as ready as I'll ever be!
That evening, we went to my brother and SIL's house for family time and fire pit. We got to hang out with our nieces, who are the most beautiful little girls in the world, but I know I am biased!
On Saturday morning, my dad and I went on a very hilly 9 miler on the back roads near my house. This is a gorgeous run. I'll post more about it tomorrow!
I was exhausted after the run, so I spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around... even though I should have mowed the lawn!
Paul had a surprise bachelor party for one of his buddies at our house that evening, so I was banished to the bedroom! It's alright, I respect boy time. I spent the evening watching Pitch Perfect, a documentary on the Challenger disaster, and messing around on GOMI. Boy is that a black hole I easily fall into...
I did a speedy 3 miles around my neighborhood and then lifted back at home- which means I did tons and tons of pull ups!
Then Paul and I ran some errands... which included checking out a place in Lewisberry, PA called "Gravity Hill". My brother and SIL told us about this place on Friday, and our interest was piqued!
This is the thing about Gravity Hill that is so creepy- when you go to the bottom of it and put your car in neutral, your car very swiftly goes backward up the hill! I am not kidding!
The story goes that the breaks went out on a school bus that was full of children and the bus careened down the hill and into the traffic, killing everyone. The ghosts of the little school children are what push your car up the hill. Obviously this is just a scary story because there was no accident like I described above. So what the heck is going on with Gravity Hill?
Of all places, Buzzfeed explains it very well:
"A gravity hill, also known as a magnetic hill and sometimes a mystery hill, a mystery spot, or a gravity road, is a place where the layout of the surrounding land produces the optical illusion that a very slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope. Thus, a car left out of gear will appear to be rolling uphill due to gravity."
Wikipedia also has a good explanation of these types of hills... and it has nothing to do with the supernatural! Apparently, there are many Gravity Hills- check them out here!
Here is the experience Paul and I had on Gravity Hill!
Have you ever been to a Gravity Hill?
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!

Wow--that is so amazing. Not been to one but now I am intrigued. We had such a fun weekend. Our town does a Corn Roast Festival so we did that, plus the parade and hanging out w/ friends at their pool all day Saturday. It was awesome. Yesterday was all about being around the house and baking, cooking and relaxing--that was much needed, too.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend sounds PERFECT- action one day, relaxed the next. :)
DeleteI couldn't agree more!
DeleteWhen we lived in PA as a kid (for just 2 years) Lewistown (near Harrisburg, I think). There was a hill like this on the way home from where I took piano lessons. Whenever we would have company, that would be a place my dad would take our guests (we would PILE in the station wagon...) I have never driven on it though--very cool.
ReplyDeleteOoh cool! Apparently there are a couple in PA.
DeleteThe only thing I remember from my one vacation to PA as a kid is Gravity Hill! It's the coolest thing!
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice that your dad went on your 9 miler with you! If my dad lived close I think he would bike alongside me if I asked... but I wouldn't because I like to be alone haha.
Hope you have a great day at school!
It is soooo odd! I went on mapmyrun and sure enough, the elevation DOES go down, even though it looks like it goes up!
DeleteGravity hills sounds so strange but interesting!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your first day back at school:)
I've never heard of a gravity hill! I need to look for one now....
ReplyDeleteMaybe there is one near you!
DeleteHoly cow! I've never heard of Gravity Hill! Hope you had a great first day back with the kiddos!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl :) It wasn't too bad. I had a lot of 3rd and 4th grade classes today- they're my JAM!
DeleteI apparently live 1 hour and 41 minutes away from Gravity Hill! I might have to make a trip out there to check this out. How cool!
ReplyDeleteOh cool! Do it!
DeleteI actually didn't really like PP! It was too predictable. Good to watch while stretching and stuff. Who knows, maybe I will watch PP2. :)
ReplyDeletewhaaaat that is really really cool!

Not as cool as running through an abandoned zoo!! I totally looked up your route on googlemaps!
DeleteOKay, that Gravity Hill thing is so incredibly awesome. My kids would love it!!! I just have to add that I love it so much that you run with your dad. You're soooo lucky. I wish I could run with mine! He used to be a runner back in the day but he's over 70 now and has had cancer and a stroke. :(
ReplyDeleteYou and your kiddos would definitely think it was cool. I mean if you watched the video it CLEARLY looks like it's a hill but you FLY up!!
DeleteI am very very thankful I can run with my daddio. He is 55 and in excellent shape!
