My last "long" run was on Saturday- 8 miles. Then I did 4 on Monday, and 3 on Thursday. The next time I run, I will be in Hopkinton!
I always take 3 complete rest days off before a race. I know 3 days sounds excessive but it has worked for me before and it will hopefully work again!
Like anything in running, tapering is a completely individual process. I am not suggesting everyone taper the way I do. There are any number of different ways to do it, so you have to do what works for you and your goals.
I just like to go with the "less is more" approach. When I'm running up the Newton Hills on Monday, I am not going to be thinking, "Dang, if only I had run on Friday this would be so much easier!"
By the way... if you want to track me at Boston on Monday, go here. My bib number is 15306. You will need to know that to track me! I am in Wave 2, which starts at 10:25 am EST.

Like the fake race bib I made?
Do I have too much time on my hands?
Maybe I should get another cat?
Do you have a tried and true taper plan or do you just go with the flow?
Does taper make you go crazy?
We'll be following you! Good luck Meg! Have a great Easter break too!
ReplyDeleteYou ladies have an awesome Easter as well!
DeleteI can't wait!! I am so excited for you!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a good point about less is more...the runs a week before the big race don't really add up as much as the runs all through training! I can't wait to track you Monday...I wonder if there's a way for me to do it at work!
ReplyDeleteI love the fake race bib! I realized yesterday you can download the boston marathon app for iPhones as well to track runner!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh thanks for the info, I will let my fam know :)
DeleteGood Luck!!! Can't wait to hear about your recap!
ReplyDeletePlans have changed, so I don't know if Gunshow and I will be going to Boston, but we shall see! :)
When I tapered for my halves, the weekend before I did 8 miles, then 6, 4, 2, and took two whole days off running. I really enjoyed the break down of miles and it felt good to just get out there and run for fun!!!!
YAY FOR RUNNING!!!!!
Have fun! Can't wait to hear all about it!
