Normally, the changes they make are barely noticeable. That's good. I feel like when runners find a shoe they love, they stick with them. I know I do. And when I find them on sale... I buy a bunch! About two years ago, I found my shoes on sale for $59.99. I bought 4 pair and didn't have to buy new shoes for a year. It was wonderful.
My Wave Rider 15s that I have been wearing for the past several months are DONE. My podiatrist even suggested I get new ones. So I was all excited and ordered these cute Waver Rider 16s off Amazon. They were definitely not on sale, but they were going to be my Boston shoes.
They came in the mail yesterday afternoon. Guess what- THEY SUCK! They are soooo different from the 15s. First of all, they feel BIG. Also, the opening of the shoe is lower. I feel like I am wearing a completely different shoe.
I decided to send them back and find some 15s... the same shoe I have been wearing. It turns out, it's pretty hard to find them in a 7.5. I had to look on Ebay. I got a pair that are ugly, but at least they will feel good.
White and pink? BARF!
I know these Wave Rider 15s won't be around long... I am wondering if I should buy a bunch and stock up? I feel like Elaine on Seinfeld when she bought a whole case of Today sponges and tried to hoard them.
This whole shoe debacle definitely ruins my weekend long run plans. I wanted to do 10-12 but I don't want to do them in my old shoes. Ah. What's a gal to do?
Do you have a specific running shoe you have been wearing for years?
Does the company change your shoe?
Do you ever buy a bunch of "your shoe" when it is on sale?
I feel the same about running shoes...when my "sole mates" go on sale, I stock up big time. It sucks when you have to start looking at other brands and basically start from square 1 finding shoes you like that are easily available because the newest model of your shoes is terrible. Hopefully the newest rendition of the Wave Riders will be more similar to your 15s!
ReplyDelete"sole mate" <--- Love this!
DeleteOh no! Finding runner shoes is so hard to begin with.... hopefully you will be back in your favorite pair soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAck, I'm so sorry. I won a pair of Brooks (Ravennas) in a contest and was excited, since they seem to be the "it" shoe in the running community, but I hate them. I love Brooks clothes, but the shoes were just yech. Maybe just that model, but I have not been impressed.
ReplyDeleteI am considering buying another pair or two of my Scotts, I'm too cheap but I keep thinking "what will happen if I can't find them in a month?" Hope you get something that works really well for you.
I don't like Brooks shoes either. But my favorite pair of shorts EVER are Brooks.
DeleteHm, I'm still in the market for shorts. All the ones I have chafe. What style do you like? I've liked Brooks clothes so far.
DeleteWell I am not sure how to describe them but they are short and they have lining on the inside so you don't have to wear underwear. They're actually hand me downs from a gal I run with.
DeleteOkay so I might be having the same problem as you. I used to run in the 16s and I LOVED them! Seriously my favorite pair of shoes I've ever ran in, I'm sorry you don't like them! Anyways I just got a pair of the 17s and my left foot and shin hurts so bad after running in them twice. I can't even run right now and it hurts to walk on it for long periods of time. I also can't afford to buy another pair right now so I'm SOL!
ReplyDeleteThat SUCKS about the 17s. I didn't wear my 16s other than trying them on so I was able to return them. Thank GOODNESS because I cannot buy new ones right now either. I hope you figure things out... Do they FEEL the same as 16s?
DeleteAhhh that's terrible! I'm not a runner but my dad is and he has been wearing the same pair of Nike's for I swear like 20 years. I think he'd die if they changed them! Or maybe they do and he just doesn't notice/care lol
ReplyDeleteI feel like they must change them a tiny bit over the years, but it's so miniscule that if you just keep getting each new pair, you don't notice.
DeleteIt's so hard finding the right pair!
ReplyDeleteI have been running in Brooks Adrenaline since 2008. I started with Adrenaline 8's and they are up to 14's. They made a significant design change around 12 and I went with another shoe but they went back to the desirable style with the 13 so I am back with them. I will also buy many pairs if I find them on sale because I know the shoe maker may make a change that just totally puts me off the shoe. Did you try Zappos? Pink and white is barf but if the shoe fits....wear it.hahahahaha! Good luck in Boston and think of us and our stick:)
ReplyDeleteI am an Adrenaline girl as well. I love the 13s! They are on sale on the Brooks website right now for $72 ;) I love the 13s and don't want to make the switch to the 14s!
Deletelol exactly, I buy running shoe for comfort, NOT style. The ones I have now are pretty ugly too.
DeleteHaha, I can totally relate to this in so many aspects of my life, not just shoes! I don't do change well!
ReplyDeleteOmg me neither. I wore a dress today that I had for 10 years!
DeleteHahaha oh no!!!! I thought I was loyal to the Brooks Ravenna's, but then when I ordered the newest model of them, they were horrendous!!! AND they starting causing ankle pain, so, I finally went and got fitted for a completely different shoe and have been wearing those ever since. Crazy!
ReplyDeleteSuch aggravation! Why do they change so much??
DeleteOkay I don't know what happened but I totally commented on your blog this morning while I was at physio on my phone.... For some reason it did not show up LOL. I bought a pair of those Mazeno's this summer. I wore them running twice and they really hurt my feet. they are beautiful and they are still sitting in my closet :(
ReplyDeleteMizunos!!!! Lol
DeleteAww dang that stinks, because I bet they weren't cheap!
DeleteI've been wearing the Mizuno Wave Inspire's for a few years and LOVE them. After Adidas, Asics and New Balance I had finally found my perfect shoes. The new model definitely feels different on my feet...bigger in the toes and stiff or something around my ankles. While I don't like them as much as my old pair they actually feel fine when I run. I had searched Amazon and Ebay too and had no luck with finding an older pair. So frustrating!
ReplyDeleteAt least they feel good when you run! I just don't understand why they insist on changing them so much.
