Even though I'm still blogging every day, when my life gets crazy, I start to feel a bit disconnected from Meg Go Run. But you know what makes me feel connected again? Sharing some random things about the past week or so with you!
Here's what's going on in my world....
I'm eating a ton of hard boiled eggs! I love them with salt and I have two for breakfast most mornings with a piece of fruit and yogurt. I'm proud of myself for learning how to make hard boiled eggs and not paying the primo price at the grocery store.
Meranda @ Fairytales and Fitness shared her Easy Peasy Creamy Potato Soup recipe and I have made it twice so far! Paul loves it. I add more things to my soup than the recipe calls for... peas, corn, and white beans. The potatoes are chunky so it ends up like a chowder. One thing I will say is that I do not enjoy peeling potatoes!
If you're ever looking for recipe ideas, check out Looney for Food. Patrick has a recipe for an amazing Cauliflower Cherry and Walnut Salad. It's served cold and reminds me of coleslaw. I make it exactly like Patrick's recipe except I use cranberries instead of cherries and add black beans. It's divine!
I'm just not feeling Christmas this year. I'm overwhelmed. I didn't even want to decorate. In fact, all my decorations aren't even up yet. I hate being halfway decorated and every night I contemplate just putting all the decorations away. I haven't even listened to Christmas music yet. Normally I am loving the holiday season but right now I just feel stressed.
On Thursday, I got my first mammogram! I was having pain in the outside of my left breast, so for peace of mind, my gyno ordered the test. The good news is everything looks fine. I knew that it would, I just wanted to be sure. The women at the Frederick Outpatient Center were AMAZING. I went in a little anxious (I always get anxious for any appointment) but the women put my mind at ease. I did wonder how they would get my tiny boobs in the machine but they did. It didn't hurt, it was only mildly uncomfortable. I can think of a million runs/races I've done that were way more uncomfortable than the mammo!
Not because I got a mammo, but because I bought good nail polish. Like, $8 nail polish. Can't wait to try it out!
Are you feeling the Christmas spirit?
How do you make potato soup?
Any crazy mammo stories?

Even though I am a Christmas Grinch, it makes me sad when people who usually love Christmas lose the spirit. I don't want to bring people down! I hope once you're on break you find your Christmas cheer.
ReplyDeleteI often get pain in my breasts that I think is muscle-related, but it seems to come out of nowhere and hurts when I take deep breaths. I always assumed it was related to my asthma in some way!
I guess there are lots of reasons our boobs could hurt. It's hard being a woman!
DeleteI am starting to get some Christmas cheer. It helps that I finally fixed my icicle lights. That was causing me stress.
SO glad your appt went well! Has the pain gone away?
ReplyDeleteI am not really feeling Christmas. I could use a week off before Christmas to prepare. When I hear people say they are done Christmas shopping, it adds a layer of anxiety.
No the pain is actually worse! Maybe the mammo instigated it? When I say it's pain, it's not like debilitating pain or pain I would take medicine for. It was just a concern because it was a major change, you know?
DeleteWell at least we get two days off before Christmas Eve this year because of how the calendar lines up!
Oh Megan -- I am sorry to hear you are not in the holiday spirit this year! You are my friend that likes Christmas the MOST (aside from little kids). I am one of those people that like Christmas. I don't love it and I don't hate it. Holiday lights and Christmas music are what I like best so I try to fill myself with as much of that as I can. I am glad you got your mammogram. I have the little boobs too and it feels like they take about 1/2 the skin from my back but I just think "you go for it" because I want a good mammo! Twice now I have had inconclusive results which means I have to go to the lab in Fort Collins and get another mammo and ultrasound. It's horrible because you just keep thinking "what if"?
ReplyDeleteOh no I am sorry you get inconclusive results! I am sure that is soooo nerve wracking. Are your boobs dense, is that why?
DeleteYeah, I think I have dense boobs! I get my mammo on the 26th so I am hoping it's all normal as all but 2 have been. I mean, they were normal it just took some extra testing to figure that out.
DeleteI do always wonder how they are going to squash my tiny boobs in that mammogram machine too! I've had many mammograms and I agree, it's just a little uncomfortable! I also get a MBI (molecular breast image) in which I have to stand around for 5 mins while my breast gets imaged because I have dense tissue. It's like a MRI for your breast I think. That's an every other year test. My house isn't really full blown Christmas because I had a cold and wasn't feeling good on decorating weekend... thus, the house doesn't get done because I do most of it!! :)
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I read that small breasts are more likely to be dense. I hope you are feeling better. <3
DeleteI'm glad everything seems to be okay after the mammo. I've never had one but I'm only 33 so I don't think I'm supposed to get them regularly yet unless I have pain or issues like lumps (which I haven't). Definitely good to take care of yourself and make sure nothing's wrong, though.
ReplyDeleteHard boiled eggs are so good! Great snack and portable source of protein too.
Yes I think the age is 40, unless you have problems or the breast cancer gene.
DeleteI'm so glad I rediscovered hard boiled eggs!
I am sorry to hear you are not in your normal holiday mood (yet)! I was wondering why I haven't seen any pictures of the inside of your house all decked out! I have the inside all decorated for Christmas since we are having a family Christmas party here this weekend (this year I even put some decorations in my kitchen)! We decorated our porch but did not put all our decorations out in the yard and I don't know if we will this year since we want to keep it free of cords and ornaments now since Baylee isn't too steady on her feet these days.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've been loving the potato soup!
I hope your party is awesome! I remember seeing pictures of your house last year. It is so festive and homey. :) I totally understand wanting to accommodate Baylee. I have tripped over my yard cords a couple times. :)
DeleteI love potato soup! I usually boil potatoes in broth, then add a splash of milk/cream and some of the broth and blend until smooth. Then I add pancetta and (steamed) green beans. YUM!
ReplyDeleteI am still not in the holiday mood either and that is strange, because I usually LOVE the holiday season. I don't know what's different this year... I hold out hope that it will change.
I had to google pancetta. That sounds DIVINE.
DeleteTry it. You won't regret it :)
