5k!

I keep it real on here. I tell you when I have good runs and I tell you when I have bad runs. Wednesday morning was a FREAKING GOOD RUN!!!

I have been thinking about running a 5 mile race a couple weeks from now. It’s one I was supposed to do last year but didn’t due to a family emergency. My runs have been speedy (for me) lately so I thought maybe I could do a good job at a 5 miler… maybe run it in 35:xx???

To test the waters, my plan on Wednesday morning was to do 3 miles @ 7:00. I decided this 20 minutes before my run! I warmed up with one mile and then off I went.

Mile one clocked in @ 7:00. Halfway through mile two I started to push the pace. I clocked a 6:48. That’s when I realized if I ran just a little faster and added a tenth of a mile I might run a sub 21 5k this morning!

I got to the point of near puke-age because my last mile was 6:28 and the .1 was 5:43... but I did it! 20:51!!!

I’m not gonna lie, I felt like THE SHIT after this run. I posted a Garmin shot on Insta and Facebook. I know that is kind of like bragging, but I was proud of myself!

So I probably will do that 5 miler and maybe get one more practice run in before then. I think 35:xx is doable but I will have to think about it some more.

Do you ever feel like you are bragging when you post a run time?

Have you ever done a 5 mile race?

  1. Wow you are speedy! I don't have the motivation to run the hard when its not a race. But you have every right to brag about that run!

    1. Thanks! I was trying to pretend it was a race at the end. I pictured people screaming at me to GO!

  2. Nice job, girl! Go for it--you will kick ass. To answer your questions: no (I have nothing to brag about with my run times) and no (I have only done one race and it was a 5K). I think you will do amazing and would not be surprised if you place at this race! Stay strong my friend.

  4. You're supposed to brag about runs like that! Facebook, Insta and your blog exist so you can share your data and all of us can celebrate with you!

  5. People do it all the time so why not! Congrats at an awesome time. I think you should totally sign up for the race. Where is it?

  6. That's a great time for 3.1. I'm one of those who thinks a 5k is so difficult, but mentally anything higher is not as tough. What? You should go after that 5-miler and kick butt.

    1. 5ks ARE difficult. It's basically kind of a sprint, right??

  7. I did a 5 mile race once as well as 2 8Ks, which is almost 5 miles. They are hard to find but I really liked the distance, I am naturally an aerobic titan so I ran with a 5K strategy and just hung on. But you had an amazing training run yesterday and I don't blame you to race more and see how it goes... I bet you will beat your goal too! Good luck!

    1. I like your strategy! Did it work? I was kind of thinking of approaching a 5 miler like doing a conservative 5k and then kicking it up at the end?

  8. Woohoo for you! I am certain my watch has never logged any miles with a "5" in front of them. Dang girl!! You got this!
I don't think I have ever run a 5 mile race. Instant PR for me :)

You can and should absolutely brag on all social media about your speediness, that's that social media is for!

    3. No, my son has a soccer game that morning... I'm dreading it, I would rather be running 5 miles!

  10. I struggle with the posting of race times for sure! When I won the race on Saturday, I wanted to put in a disclaimer stating that it was a really small race, but then it would sound like I was fishing for compliments, waiting for people to write, "Oh Suzy, it's still amazing!" etc and then it's just awkward. Also, if anyone else won a race even if it was a really small one, I'd be really happy for THEM, so why would I take it away from myself? Anyway, my point is: I squealed a little bit when I saw your early morning 5K time. Seeing that inspired ME. You are getting faster and faster and I love it.

    1. People used to yell at me for disclaimers so I don't do it anymore! I won a race once and I said how a huge half marathon was on the same day so all the area runners were there and that I was just the fastest person that showed up that DAY. Well then my friend said, "Anyone who wins a race is the fastest person who showed up that DAY!" lol, which is true! I was very happy for you that you won! I don't care how many people were there.

  11. I was excited for your 7 miles this am! I was like... awww I wish I ran 7 miles! I had to lift.

  12. So freaking impressive. And even more so, you ran that PR in a non-race environment. I can't set PRs unless I'm racing --> I need the competitive aspect to push me a little harder. It sounds like you will put out a good performance when you do the 5-mile race.

I typically don't mind sharing a milestone when it comes to sports and don't really see it as bragging. You worked hard for it. It is a part of who you are. Why not share it with others? :)

    1. Well my pr is exactly one minute faster than this run but since I have not been doing speed training or anything I was pleased with this!!

I like your take on sharing milestones. I guess I just worry too much which is silly because I myself like reading about other people's accomplishments!

  13. Congrats on the crazy-fast 5k! I'm a bit of a slow poke, so I don't typically mention my time - I usually just talk about how far I ran. One of my favorite quotes, "I'm only telling you how far I ran so you don't judge me for eating the whole bag of chips."
