This post is inspired by one I wrote several weeks ago... 5 Horrible Things That I Love Very, Very Much. It got me thinking... I bet there are lots of things I HATE that most people LOVE.
Hate is a strong word. A more accurate description would be "Things I Don't Care For", or "Stuff That's Not My Cup of Tea".
So here you go.. a couple things I dislike that most people enjoy!
1. Football
Football is something I wish I liked. It's on ALL the time in the Fall/Winter. I mean, it's sort of like having new episodes of your favorite TV show on Monday nights, Thursday nights, and all day Sunday. That would be awesome! Alas, I never liked the game. I didn't even like it when I was in high school. I had to attend all the games anyway because I was in marching band. (Clarinet!)
2. Harry Potter
** I looked for a Harry Potter meme but I didn't understand any of them
because I never saw/read Harry Potter so... use your imagination for an image for this one!**
3. Disney
Augh, don't hate me for this one! I have just never been into Disney! I've never been to Disney World. And I know what you're thinking... if I went there, I would love it. Maybe? Who knows? I don't like crowds. I don't like children in unstructured environments. I am not into the characters at all. It's just not on my list of things to do. I did love The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Aladdin when I was a kid. In fact, I had the clarinet music to Aladdin. Boy I could rock out to Arabian Nights!
4. Smartphones
They take over liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiives!!!!! I still have a flip phone with no data plan. I talk (rarely), text (often), and play solitaire (nightly). I will use this type of phone until my company requires me to get a data plan. Which probably isn't that far off...
Your turn! Do you share my sentiments with anything on my list? Is there something everyone loves that you HATE? Think Out Loud!
Ha, I am also not a fan of Football. The Super bowl is such an inconvenience to me since it interferes with my TV shows, lol. I've never been a lover of Harry Potter either, but I did try to jump on that wagon....it just never took. That being said I'm hooked on my smart phone :S
ReplyDeleteI would get addicted to a smartphone if I had one too! I bet they are laced with crack!
DeleteLOL.....probably so!
DeleteI can definitely agree with you on football and Harry Potter (I've never read any of the books or watched any of the movies either), but I absolutely adore Disney and me and my iPhone are attached at the hip... which probably isn't a good thing because it'd be nice to unplug a little more once in a while. And I love that you play solitaire... I do too, but with actual cards lol.
ReplyDeleteSolitaire is the best!! I never play with cards though. The game on my phone has 12 different types of solitaire games and I love going through all of them. Most of the time I fall asleep with my phone open playing solitaire! :)
DeleteConsider me your opposite. I'm the biggest football fan ever, it's scary. It's all I talk about in the fall and I literally don't leave my house on Saturdays after noon because there are games all day. I don't watch at bars or with strangers because I take it so seriously, I refuse to drink during or it might mess up my focus. I also love Harry potter and my smartphone :) with you on the Disney though...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh we are almost complete opposites! I know if I had a smart phone I would get quite attached to it. Prob why I am holding out as long as I am!
DeleteI ABHOR football. It is seriously soooo boring and terrible to watch. BLAH. I do love Harry Potter - those books came out at the perfect time in my life, and every time I reread them I find more nuances and allegorical themes. But I can respect that sometimes a genre doesn't call to us!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty meh on Disney, too. I'll seriously NEVER understand the obsession some people have. (And I know a TON of people that work there and are, therefore, super obsessed.)
I love when I read books again and notice things I never noticed. Same with TV shows. I watched a Seinfeld the other day and caught a very adult joke I never even understood as a young adult and laughed my head off!
DeleteLOL "Children in unstructured environments!" so true! They make me afraid to be a parent. I do love Disney, but I understand how it can be a little too much, and I definitely agree that it's possible to be "too into it."
ReplyDeleteI'm with you about football. Growing up in the South and not caring about football is... hard. I just can't respect grown men who mope for days when "their team" loses a silly football game. Really?
Oh I so agree about grown moping about 'their team' losing. I had a boss that was one of those men. I ended up checking 'his team's' scores so I wouldn't approach him about a problem or new idea after 'his team' lost...
DeleteHaha I have to be careful because I definitely don't "hate" children. I'm a teacher! But school is a structured environment. I hate places where children are just allowed to run wild. (As they should be able to do, I just can't take it!)
DeleteI hate football. Most women I know love it. And they all post these "a woman who loves football is a rare gem" bullshit memes on facebook. I get ragey because it's almost every damn woman I know posting it. So . . . how rare is it? I also HATE Breaking Bad. I thought it was awful. I hate crossfit. I just do.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Kim! I think *most* people at least enjoy football a little, even if it's just "their team." I never saw Breaking Bad so I don't know if I would hate that or not! Crossfit... annoys me. :)
DeleteUgh. Football. What a waste of time and money. Luckily, my boyfriend doesn't do football either (although, he wanted to play it in high school). Also, Disney. I can't do it. I mean, I loved the Disney movies growing up and I can still sing along to all of the songs, but I can't do it now that I'm an adult. I hate Disneyland and can only be there for approximately 12 minutes before I want to run out of the park screaming. I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan either. But, I love my smart phone. I do know how to put it away when it needs to be put away, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I would love having a smartphone. I bet I would get addicted to it though.
DeleteHahaha I'm with you on aaall of these! I actually liked the Harry Potter books when they came out first. I was 9. By the time the films came out and I started seeing grown adults reading the books I just cringed!
ReplyDeleteI forget how old I was when they came out. I think I was probably in HS maybe?
DeleteI'm a total football fan! There are so many different plays that can be drawn up for each situation, and each one can lead to a different result (or no result at all). Then when you add in clock management that's just a whole new layer of EXCITEMENT!! During football season there's pretty much never anything else on the TV in my house, haha
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think this is the best line I've ever read in a blog: I don't like children in unstructured environments.
Here, here!
The Disney race was fun but going into the parks is my idea of a nightmare!
Wow I thought you LOVED Disney??? You and my husband would get along SO well. Do you do Fantasy Football?
DeleteHow can anyone hate Disney?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeletelol sorry!!!
DeleteI have a dumb phone too!! I would love a smartphone but I am afraid I will never get things done if I get one because I will always be distracted. My dinosaur phone (I have a cool middle-schooler slide-out keyboard phone) serves the purposes of texting and making calls just fine. :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband's slides too!!! Yay for dino phones. :)
DeleteLOVE THIS because it made me laugh butttttt
ReplyDelete1. I love football! I don't know everything about it and am still learning but I do watch it. This past season I was watching games without the hubs!
2. HARRY POTTER....WHAT?!?!? You have to read them. Okay you really don't, but it is amazing! My sister and husband picked on me for years because they thought "Potter was dumb." Then they read it and BOOM! Fell.in.love :)
3. I'm also kind of "whatever" on Disney. I watched a couple of movies growing up but we were into Barbies. Oh yeah - I played with Barbies until I was like 14 years old :)
4. My husband made me get an iPhone in December. My biggest fear is that I would be obsessed like everyone else but I am pretty mellow with it. I love certain features on it and they can be helpful. I am the person in the group who yells at people for being on their phones! :)
I love that you are so open with your posts! I love getting to know you!!!
Aw thank you!! I loved Barbies too. :) That is awesome you can have a smartphone but not let it take over. I am afraid I'd get addicted to it.
DeleteI love my Garmin, too!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on football and Harry Potter. Someday I will tell you a story about Harry Potter, but I don't want it out on the Internet. And while I enjoy Disney movies, I'm pretty sure Disneyland would make me stabby.
ReplyDeleteOoh a story you don't want on the internet MUST be good! :) "Disneyland would make me stabby" LOL!!!!
DeleteWhat a fun post!
ReplyDeleteSo let's see, I could care less about football, I wanted to like Harry Potter cus my husband does but truth be told I fell asleep during every movie we went to see! Don't hate me but I love Disney (but you already knew that..:haha). I held out for so long before getting a smart phone ( I don't like change) then my husband made me upgrade, I just recently upgraded my BlackBerry again this past November and now it is even smarter!!! I love it and tell him all the time that besides my labrador, this was my favorite gift. I don't play games on it though but it is very handy for blogging and reading blogs.
lol I know you love Disney! (And I love that we both profess our feelings about Disney with the caveat "don't hate me") :) I am having a smartphone is wonderful for blogging. It would def save me a lot of time because I could read blogs when I'm waiting for things.
