I was nominated for a Leibster Award by Heather @ Girl Goes Running and Lis @ 26.2 x 2. This is an award for new bloggers. The "award" is that I get to answer some questions! Oh, and nominate someone else, of course! Actually, 11 someones... But I am not sure I even know 11 new bloggers! I will try my best.
What is your favorite distance to run? I don’t have favorite distances so much as I have favorite routes that I run. I have this gorgeous 9 mile route I do. It’s really hilly, so not only is it a beautiful run, but it’s a great workout!
Wharf Road Bridge
When did you start running? When I was a senior in high school, I started to run the occasional mile before school. In college, I slowly worked my way up to running 5 miles a day, and I did that for YEARS. When I was about 23, I met my now husband. His mother ran marathons and ultras, and through her, I started running “seriously”. My very first race was a ½ marathon and my second race was a marathon!
Running along the Susquehanna River around Mile 23 of
my first marathon- Harrisburg.
What is your favorite brand of running shoes? Mizuno Wave Riders, always and forever. (Or until they stop making them. Or my feet change.)
Solo Runner or Buddy Runner? Most of the time I run solo since it’s simply much easier to do. But I love running with friends! I miss the conversation and the bonding.
Favorite post-run snack? CARBS!!!
What made you start blogging? I love connecting with people. I also wanted to share all I have learned over the past couple years in my journey of accepting my body and taking care of it. Also, I really enjoyed writing as a child and teenager, so the writing part seemed to come naturally.
Do you have a pet? If so, what kind? YES! We have 2 kitty cats who are the loves of our lives- Christmas and Jelly. They are two huge Main Coons. We also lost our other kitty, Basic, a few months ago. We still love her with all of our hearts!
Jelly and Chrissy when they were BABIES!
What is your favorite TV show? We love Big Brother and Dexter. Then of course, the classics, like Seinfeld and Friends.
What do you do with your race bibs? Save them in a tub in my basement.
What is a pre-race ritual you have? I love freshly shaven legs!
What's the furthest distance you have ever run? 50 miles
We don't look like we just ran 50 miles, do we????
I credit the Mountain Dew I started drinking at Mile 26.
What’s your PR? Marathon: 3:28:07, Half Marathon: 1:38:07, 5k: 19.51 Mile: 5:41
My bro and I- we just PR'ed in the half!
Where’s your favorite place to race? I don't race a lot. I guess my favorite place is somewhere close to home because then logistics are easier.
Where’s your least favorite place to race? I don't have a least favorite place, but I have a least favorite time. Evening. When I raced the mile, it was close to 7pm. Terrible, terrible anxiety plagued me all day!
What’s your favorite time of year to go running? Spring or summer.
What’s your favorite “naughty” food to eat that you don’t mind sneaking in on long run days (we all have one!)? A huge dessert!
If you could enter a race ANYWHERE, which race would it be? All of these places!
What’s your favorite running song? The sound of Terry Gross' voice!
Okay, now I get to nominate some peeps!
I know that's not 11, but a lot of the blogs I read have already been nominated!
Here are my questions for you lovely ladies...
1. If you had to go for a run with any celebrity, who would you pick?
2. Do you wear make up when you workout?
3. Would you ever do one of those nude races?
(What if it was guaranteed that no one you knew would be there?)
4. What's the worst injury you've had?
5. Tell me your proudest, non fitness accomplishment.
6. Tell me your proudest fitness accomplishment.
7. You just won a million dollars and you have to spend it all TODAY. What do you do?
8. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?
9. Name a talk show you would like to get interviewed on.
10. If you had to move to LA, NYC, or the middle of nowhere, which would you pick?
Go ahead, answer one or more of the questions for me! We can all be 'lil leibsters!
I can't believe you answered all (both) of our questions! You rock and we should start a Meg Award! If I had a million dollars, I'd pay my mortgage off and bank the rest. People go too crazy and usually end up losing their money after winning the lottery, so I'd just continue to be responsible with my money. Boring, I know. Maybe go on a destination race, like run a marathon in Hawaii, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteA destination race- great idea!! I would do that too. :)
DeleteI'm a huge theater junkie as well. I can't sing or dance to save my life, but I have acted in several plays and I've stage managed many, many musicals. Theater is just as addicting as running.
ReplyDeleteStage managing is no joke! You just told me A LOT about you by simply saying that you have done stage managing. :)
DeleteYour kitties are ADORBS and I love that you were in Rocky Horror!!!! It's one of my favs!
ReplyDeleteI have a special place in my heart for Rocky :)
DeleteI would have never guessed you were in musical theater! Awesome :) Okay, 50 miles?!?!?!?! is every kind of crazy! (envy speaking here). I am training to do a 50 K in October and am worried about that . Any tips?
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! Focus on time on your feet, not your pace. Take walk breaks and practice eating food on your runs. Is your race on trail?? (I hope so, it will be much nicer to your body!) If so, be sure to train on trail. Just get your long runs in. :) Most of my training for the 50 miles was back to back long runs on the weekends. 20 on Sat, 10-15 on Sun. When I trained for the 50k, we focused more on time than miles. I believe my longest training run was around 5 hours on the trail. You could use your 50k as a stepping stone for a 50 miler a few months later. :)
DeleteCongrats on your award! I was very excited to get mine recently! It's a great way to connect with other bloggers. 50 miles!?!?!?!?!?!? holy moly that's crazy amazing beyond impressive. I'd love to hear more about this. This year for the first time I'm stepping out of my comfort zone of 5K's and doing my first 10K this year so 50 sounds more like a million to me! I'm so impressed.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out your answers to the questions! :) That is awesome that you are branching out to 10ks. I should try to do a post about my 50 mile race and how to train for it. It was definitely a great day... think of it as an 11 and a half hour run through the woods! :)
DeleteThanks for the nomination!!! I'll get to that this week when I'm all caught up...if that's even possible! :) 50 miles!!!! Holy crap!!! That is so incredibly impressive! That's great it's something you and your hubby share. I'm also jealous about the musical theater thing. I love performing but was shy as a kid so I never got into it. Kind of a minor regret.
ReplyDeleteJust fill out the survey one of the nights you have insomnia!
DeleteI loved learning more about you!
ReplyDeleteOne of my dreams is to run an ultra someday. I told my husband that I wanted to run 50 miles. He was in shock, lol!
Haha do it!! The best part about ultras is they're usually always in the woods. :) I had the best time. I ran it with my friend Anne and we just ran and talked (and ate!) for 11 and a half hours. I still can't believe how wonderful of a day it was.
