Yesterday, I teased that I ran in my PJs!
Here's the story...
On Friday, I woke up at 5:30 and went out for my 6:00 run. The weather app said the real feel was 20 degrees with no wind. The thermometer concurred.
My normal "thick" running tights were in the wash, so I put on thin ones. I was pretty sure I wore them in 20 degrees before. On top, I had on a long sleeve shirt, fleece vest, thick jacket, two pairs of gloves, and my new EP fleece headband. (Thanks, Julie!)
I thought I was dressed warm enough and ready to go. But after just a mile, my legs and bum were so cold. Like, tingly cold. I knew I had to either stop running or go put on something warmer. Obviously, I wasn't about to only run three miles, so I went inside to see what other pants I had...
... And there were my flannel pj pants laying on my bed. They were an easy grab. I figured if I put them on over my tights, they would give me the extra cozy layer I needed.
I was right! Those flannel pjs gave me the perfect amount of warmth! I finished the last three miles of my run nice and toasty!
Don't worry, I'm going to invest in another pair of warm running pants. It's time. I'm worth it.
What's the weirdest thing you wore to stay warm on a run?
Do you like to match?
Do you like to match?
Thats not a bad idea! I've use old pajama pants as throwaway clothes before races. They are definitely warmer than just running tights!
ReplyDeleteThey are surprisingly warm! Even though they're not thick.
DeleteHa I love it! Sure why not if if kept you warm? Oh yes I am one of those matchy matchy people for sure. My friends think it's amusing
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you look very fashionable! I am matchy-matchy with my "real" clothes and went to look trendy, but for some reason with running clothes I just don't care.
DeleteYes, you are worth it! Runs are so much better when you are dressed comfortably! Sometimes I don't match either!
ReplyDeleteYou got a lot of new stuff that is very fashionable though! :)
Deletenice! that was a smart idea to just grab your flannels! i'm glad you're going to invest in warmer tights. will you be able to get them on sale since winter is almost over? or does PA consider this still the thick of winter? I bought myself a few new pairs of cropped workout tights yesterday and they were all 20% off :).
ReplyDeleteI could definitely find them on sale. They had swimsuits out at Target last week!
DeleteWow, that would never have occurred to me; then again, I don't have flannel pjs. :)
ReplyDeleteI do like to look good when I run.
Probably one of my weirder looks was at wineglass, when I tied my throwaway sweatshirt (which I did eventually throwaway) like a sweater over my shoulders.
Since I use a hydration pack, it's too consuming to wriggle out of a throwaway, but at 35 degrees, I needed it!
Oh yeah, you'd have to do what you did or get a super oversized sweatshirt to put over the hydration pack!
DeleteI like to look good in my "real life" clothes but for some reason I don't care about my running clothes.
On my runs from home I don't take pictures, so I don't try to match. I do try to match for races or group runs where there might be photography though!
ReplyDeleteI would totally run in pajama pants except my pajama pants are really long since I'm short, so I'd trip over them. But my friend wore a bathrobe instead of a "throwaway jacket" for a marathon, and that was actually a great idea when standing in the corral.
I will admit, I am more particular about a race outfit! I used to even shave my legs before a race! And I think I still do if I am "racing" it, though I haven't raced anything in awhile.
DeleteBathrobe idea is awesome! When I ran Boston, we bought throwaway clothes from good will. You have to wait in the athlete's village for sometimes hours before the race and some people even brought blow up pool rafts to lay on. Isn't that crazy?
