Do you sometimes just know you are going to have a bad run? For whatever reason (bad food choices, sleep deprivation, over training) you know the run is not going to be great before you even lace up your running shoes.
That was me on Tuesday! I was even contemplating a rest day because I figured my body needed rest more than it needed a crappy run. But I was feeling a little blue and needed some endorphins, so I decided to go out anyway.
There were a couple reasons I figured my run would be bad. The main reason was because I got less than 4 hours of sleep the night before. I had to get up early for piano lessons, and when I know I have to get up early, my mind races and I can't fall back asleep. The good part about that is I read an entire book during my night of insomnia. (Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn- thanks for the rec, Ali!)
Other reasons I thought my run would be bad:
- It was dreary and rainy out.
- My knee wasn't feeling strong.
- The only new pod cast I had was Dan Savage and I am starting to get annoyed with the people calling into the show. They are such whiny bitches.
Obviously, from the title of this post, you know my run actually turned out to be great! My legs felt strong and fresh. I was running a pace that felt easy, even though it was faster than my normal easy pace. I ended up with 5 miles at an 8:21 pace.
I'm so glad I got out for the run because now I feel wonderful!
I often experience the same thing with workouts - I start off feeling crap but once I get into it, it feels great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great feeling!
DeleteThis reminds me of your post about putting in "junk miles". I'm glad your run turned out well though.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it would have definitely been a good day to use as a rest day. I would like to think if I started my run and felt really horrible that I would have turned around and came home... but I honestly don't know if I would have.
DeleteThis is me all the time! Sometimes the hardest thing for me is to just get out the door. But lately I've been trying to remind myself that a done run is ALWAYS a good run. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes, as long as it turns into a good run it's all good!
DeleteThat's great! It is funny how there are a few times everything you've done predicts a bad run and it's actually a great one. Best kind of running surprise! Then of course there are the times I think I'll have a great run and it winds up being less than. Definitely can't always predict it.
ReplyDeleteYes! More often I think a run will be awesome and then not so much. I guess I was due for the opposite sooner or later.
DeleteThat happened to me too this week! I had a sore throat for some weird reason so I thought I'd do 3 crappy miles and that they would suck. It was very warm and sunny and when I got going it actually felt great! Not fast, just great. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!
DeleteI was the total opposite last week! I went out hoping to have a great run and it turned out bad!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your run was just what you needed! :)
Awww well you are due for a good run soon then :)
DeleteI LOVE when a run set up to be bad turns out good. I get annoyed when Dan Savage does a full show of morons. Like, I get sprinkling them around, but 45 minutes of idiocy is too much!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're liking the book!
I hate when people don't even have a question, they clearly just want to share something to shock us, and then form it as a question. Dan has called people out on this before. :)
