Weekly Workout Recap!

This week was all about RECOVERY. I really do not recover quickly. My runs were slow and easy and I couldn't have gone faster even if I had wanted to. My legs didn't feel like they had some pep until Friday.

This week was also all about trying to hit an even mileage! Something is wrong with my Garmin and it is not accurately measuring the distances. I spent all week trying to even things out.

Saturday- Capital 10 Miler Race! (12 miles total due to warm up and cool down.)

Monday- My quads were very sore, but I went for a run to test the waters. The first mile was painful but it got better after that. I ended up running 5.2 miles because of the Garmin issue. I kept the pace slow because there was no way I could do anything but run easy.

Tuesday- My quads felt a lot better but they weren't perfect. I did another 5.2 miles and I felt slower than the day before. I just had no energy! I really felt like I was running the last 5 miles of a marathon or something!

Wednesday- Upper body lifting session and core/glute stuff at home. I forget what I did, but it was the "usual".

Thursday- 7.8 miles around my hood. (Garmin said 7.6. You see how I was trying to make things even??) My quads were feeling back to normal but I was still tired.

Friday- 5 miles around my hood. (I tried for 4.8) The pep in my step was back! I was running in the 8:20s and it felt easy. Hallelujah! Then after work I had to drop my car off at the garage and since we only have one car and Paul doesn't drive, I had to run home. I stopped for a walking cool down after .8 miles to make it and even 36 miles for the week!

All my anal retentive readers can rest easy! I finally ended on an even number!
How long does it take you to bounce back from a hard race?

  1. Great jobs on your runs this week considering how you rocked your 10 mile race!

  2. I take super long to recover as well. I think that shows that we gave it our all! ;) Nothing to do with the fact that I feel "old" lately lol. Sometimes my Garmin does weird things with pace, like I'm expending an all out effort and it's up in the 10s!!! So weird.

    1. That is one of the types of things that happened to me yesterday. It was in the high 11s and I was like, okay, I am not running a 7 min mile right now but it is also not an 11!

  4. I am an anal retentive reader and was glad to see you ended on an even number :)

Great recovery week. You really kept moving but also listened to your body. I think you should totally check out turmeric supplements! What you are describing is how I used to feel before I began using them. They are all natural - it is a spice you cook with that has awesome anti inflammatory properties. I rarely use real NSAIDs (well, I did for my toe bc desperate). Check it, sister!

    1. Thank you for reminding me about tumeric! I will look it up. :) I don't use NSAIDs either. I like to be in tune with my body and not mask pain.
