Friday 5! (Food & Drink!)

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Today's Friday 5 theme is Food & Drink. I'll be honest... I sometimes get sick of talking about food and reading about food. Do you really care what I eat? Probably not.

How can I make the topic of Food & Drink interesting? Well, Paul and I sometimes play this game where we talk about what food we would eat all the time if money were not a factor.

Here ya go... five foods that would be staples in my house/diet if I won the lottery!

1. Sushi. I'd have it delivered to my workplace so I could have it for lunch every day.

2. Salmon. I could totally see myself having a big chunk of salmon for dinner several nights a week.

3. Avocados. Why are avocados so expensive!? We buy them, but not weekly or anything like that. I would love to have one daily!

4. Cherries. Maybe we need to plant some cherry trees in our backyard? Then I could enjoy as many as I wanted!

5. Lagavulin. I have never actually bought myself a bottle of this because it is a teeeeeny bit out of my price range, but luckily I have friends who like to share!

What kinds of foods would you eat more often if money were not a factor?

Are there any foods you buy often despite the expense?

Today, I'm linking up with the DC girls for Friday 5!

  1. I wonder why avocados are so expensive in PA?! They aren't here. If money were not an issue then we would eat more sushi and more steak. I buy the very good farm raised beef or bison and it's pricey. So worth it but if we could have it more than 2-3 x per month, we would!

    1. I should have added farm raised meat to my list! I don't know why avocados are so expensive. They can be more than a dollar. At Aldi, it is a good deal if they are 99 cents.

  2. Don't put a cherry tree near where you need to walk! They are beautiful, but messy trees--we had many carpet/floor stains from stepping in the mess!
I agree with the salmon and sushi...I would also have my freezer stocked with expensive ice cream--Hey, if money is no object, I would hire a chef too.
Also, catching up on yesterday...I am seriously worried about the direction our country is heading. Politics has disintegrated into bullying, and using school yard fear tactics. The only way to progress is through education...which brings change. Fear and bullying breed hate...
On a side note, I have always disliked political signs. Should we be voting on "name recognition"? or who has the most signs? or who my neighbors are voting for? Vote on issues!

    1. I should know better about the cherry tree because we have a mulberry tree that gives us the same problem!

I agree with your sentiment about name recognition. People should research the ISSUES. I feel the same way about people who say they hate every candidate. Well guess what, you should still research them and find the lesser of the evils rather than just not vote. No one is perfect.

  3. I wish I loved sushi! So many people rave about it!

  4. I love cherries but you are right, they are so darn expensive (especially for the amount of work that is involved to eat them)..lol

  5. Sushi, yes! And I do eat it almost weekly, despite the expense. And when cherries are in season, again, half my grocery bill is cherries, I swear!

Then there's nut butters, which are getting outrageously expensive!

    1. Oh yes those nut butters are expensive! I really don't eat a lot of them but I used to.

  6. I have an unrefined palette. The majority of my favorite foods are inexpensive... like Honey Nut Cheerios! Eggs! Water! Moscato from any brand!

Adam says I have the blandest taste ever because I often say "this water is good!" :D

Truthfully, if money were no object i wouldn't buy specific foods, I would hire a chef to make my meals.... aka pour my cereal for me.

    1. You are hilarious! You would not like the water at our school. It tastes like metal.

  7. If price was not an issue, I would also buy avocados every single week! Also, the expensive cheddar cheese at Wegmans, Manchego cheese, and Frappuccinos every day, and of course, I would need Italian bread or a French baguette to go with all the cheese, and chorizo! now I'm hungry for cheese and chorizo!

I always splurge on Chobani yogurt, it's about .20c more than other yogurts, and really it's not much, but it adds up. I could buy the plain one and add honey and strawberries, but that sounds like too much work. I also splurge on Organic Milk for my son.

    1. You are making me hungry too! But of course it is my lunch time so that could be the case as well. Have you ever shopped at Aldi? They may have Greek yogurt less expensive. But if you don't live near an Aldi it may not be worth the hassle!

    2. Yes, I shop at the Aldi's next to Big lots... and if I go on the right day, their stuff is super fresh. I also buy avocados there, the 6 pack, and split it with a co-worker, so they won't go bad before I can use them. My problem is that I live very close to Wegmans and next thing I know, my cart is full and my bank account empty. Their organic section and cheese area is my absolute weakness!

    3. I live less than a mile from that Aldi and go there alllll the time. :) I get my chicken at Wegman's because it is always 1.99/lb but I hate going there and it is always a miracle if I get out without killing anyone!

  8. Crab legs dipped in butter!!!!

  9. I eat avocado everyday! My favorite expensive food is dungeness crab - SOOO good!!!

  10. I agree on the salmon! I would eat so much of it (and the good stuff from the local co op!) if price weren't an issue. And shrimp.

I like the spin you put on this! I agree with you, I'm not into talking or reading about food. I know that is some people's thing and I totally respect that, but when I see a "what I ate" post I skip it almost 100% of the time. I am just not the least bit interested in what other people are eating.

Avocados aren't that expensive here, but it's so hard to find ones that aren't way overripe or way underripe. It is a rare, rare day when we find a good, edible avocado in the produce section. So sad.

    1. Your avocado selection sounds like ours. :(

I usually don't care about WIAW posts either. But oddly, sometimes I do care! Like if you did one, I would probably read it because you don't really ever talk about what you eat. I guess it's the people that do it all the time that I generally skip because I feel like I already know how they eat.

    2. Hmmm....maybe I will do one now! LOL I've actually thought about it before. Mine would be so boring though because I'm not very creative with food. I eat like a little kid: super basic, and hopefully at least a little healthy, sometimes. Also this will probably never happen because I can't remember to take pics of all my food throughout the day.

    Mexican food is so good.

  12. I wouldn't mind if someone cooked me salmon all the time. I haven't had success in the kitchen yet (likely my preparation and cooking).

    1. I am not a great cook either. I've never made salmon- that is all my husband's doing. I'm good at casseroles. :) Dump it in, stir it around, and cook it. Voila! Can't screw it up!

  13. I actually really enjoy reading about what other people eat and drink. I do not enjoy avacados, only in guacamole. I LOVE salmon!!!! And also I"m not a sushi fan, lol. Matt loves it, I hate it.

  14. If you won the lotto you'd have sushi delivered to work for lunch? You'd still WORK if you won the lottery?! :)

I had sushi last night. I've been stress-eating like crazy and sushi seemed like a nice cleansing, balanced dinner to get me back on track this week.
