Crime Con?

A couple weeks ago, Ali shared a link on my Facebook page about an event called CrimeCon. I went to the website and I was immediately intrigued! It's a 3-day CRIME CONFERENCE in Indianapolis!

This is how it is described directly from their website:

"A WEEKEND OF MOTIVES, MURDER & MYSTERY.

A celebration of all things true crime, CrimeCon brings the cases you love to life through immersive experiences, incredible guests, and a ton of mystery and intrigue. It was created for those of us who binged on Making A Murderer or who spend more hours watching Dateline marathons than we'd like to admit.

CrimeCon transports fans from the couch to the crime scene and into the courtroom. If your idea of the perfect night involves alibis, motives, and a bottle of wine, then this is the event you've been waiting for. Grab a few true-crime obsessed friends and join us for an unforgettable weekend."

I know! CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS? THIS IS MY THING!!!! THIS WAS MADE FOR ME!!!!!

And there will be special guests. NANCY FREAKING GRACE will be there! Kirk Nurmi (Jodi Arias' defense attorney) will be there! F. LEE BAILEY WILL FREAKING BE THERE!

Also attending will be a bunch of true crime podcasts I listen to. You know I'm a podcast fanatic!

Then there's the breakout sessions... Here are some of the ones that sound particularly interesting to me!

EYEWITNESS: A violent crime happens right in front of you and the cops need your help to find the suspect. Can you accurately describe what you saw? Can you explain it to a sketch artist? Can you identify the perp in a lineup? It may not be as easy as you think...

44 MINUTES: You are being held captive in a basement by a deranged killer.  He'll be back in 44 minutes. Can you piece together the clues and escape before he returns?

THE ACCUSED: You're accused of killing your spouse and your alibi is shaky. Can you withstand an interrogation from a seasoned investigator? Can you pass a polygraph? <---- OMG I WOULD DIE TO BE INTERROGATED THAT WOULD BE SO FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!

Even as I'm typing this and getting really hype about it, I'm not sure if I should go! It's in the summer, so getting off work isn't a problem. It sounds like it's going to be really freaking cool, but what if it's not? I calculated the cost, and for two nights at the hotel, the cost of the conference, and parking at the hotel, it would be $749. That doesn't even count meals and the price of gas to drive to and from Indianapolis. It would be 8 hours one way.

Now, I would gladly spend $749 if I knew this conference would be super duper fun. But what if I can't get into the sessions I want to get into? What if it's too crowded? What if Nancy Grace gets sick and can't make it? There's so many "what ifs". This is the first year for the conference, so I can't even ask anyone what it is like.

I did send them an email to ask all my crazy questions... maybe they can shed some light on my concerns!

Paul told me I should go. He even said he'd go with me and find stuff to do in Indianapolis while I'm doing murder stuff at the conference. What a guy! I know I could wait until they do another one so I can get feedback from those who attend this one...
Should I go!?
Does this sound like something that would interest you?
What type of conference would you love to go to?

  1. I think you should go! You only live once and why not? What is the worst that can happen--you attend and find it wasn't your thing? At least you tried and you will know. And good or not so good, it will be life experience!

  2. OMG.....This sounds amazing and totally your thing! You should definitely go. I know this would definitely interest me as well. I wonder if you'll be sworn to secrecy at some of the stuff you will hear.....hehe.

I often wonder how some people can give exact descriptions to a scetch artist with so much detail? I'm horrible at guessing people's" age, height, and weight. I'd be like, "it was a male with dark hair, and that's all I know".

When do you have to decide? Does registration close?

  3. O, ps. I know it's only fake murder stuff but I'm surprised you never did the murder mystery weekends at Allenberry. You would have had a blast. It's cheesy but fun.

    1. I think a murder mystery weekend would have interested me in HS but not anymore. I'm more of a REAL LIFE MURDER type of girl. That sounds so sick, doesn't it???

I don't understand the sketch artist thing either. It is amazing to me!

I should decide by the end of Feb because the price goes up after that...

  4. I thought of you as I binge-watched all 10 episodes of The People V. OJ this weekend. Now I am feeling a slight obsession with learning more about it.

    1. Read Mark Fuhrman's book Murder in Brentwood. Best book about the case I have ever read!

  5. Oh man, the 44 minutes thing gives me hives just thinking about it! It's like those "escape room" games but with higher stakes because a crazed killer is coming after you if you fail!!

You know I totally think you should go, but it's easy to spend other people's money ;) I'd keep an eye on it and see if new special guests and info is rolled out and plan to go if, as the time gets closer, it still looks like all the good stuff is happening!

  6. You need to go to this! It sounds perfect for you! Don't worry about the what ifs... because you will feel worst asking yourself later, "What if I would have gone? What if it was a ton of fun? What if I would have enjoyed it?".
