Cat litter in my shoe!

Hey, hey, hey!

Another day, another post of me shooting the shit with you!

It's 4:58 and I am all cuddly in my jammies. No piano lessons tonight, so I can chill on the couch for as long as I want. BLISS.

I'm bone tired from my work day. There is no other way to describe it.

Random story: At some point during the morning, I thought I had a pebble in my shoe. Then I figured out it was a piece of cat litter. And it wasn’t in my shoe, it was in my TIGHTS. So I walked around all day with a piece of cat litter stuck to my foot inside my tights. Fun times!

Something exciting happened at the end of the day. I had a student come down to my room to play me the Black Belt song, which is Ode to Joy. (They play me songs and earn little ribbons to tie at the end of their recorders. The easiest song is the White Belt. The hardest is the Black Belt. And there are eight belts in between!) Well, he played the song perfectly, which means he earned his BLACK BELT in Recorder Karate! He was my first student to do it this year! (The students don't HAVE to go all the way to their Black Belt. I require them to earn four belts, but they can keep going if they want to.)

I knew he was going to earn it, so I queued up the Indiana Jones Theme Song on my computer and skipped ahead to 4:32 where the music gets really dramatic.

As soon as he finished the song and I declared him the first Black Belt of the year, I pressed play and the music blasted. I think I embarrassed him a little! I even got down on one knee to present him his Black Belt, which is a really thick (2 inches?) ribbon to tie on the bottom of recorder.

I can be extremely dramatic when I want to make a big deal out of something. :)

We're under a winter storm warning! Snow is coming. Apparently it's supposed to snow from 1am to 10am tomorrow morning! I'm not sure we will have school tomorrow (today, since you're reading this). We'll at least have a delay, I think. Should I risk it and stay up late tonight?

Okay, that's all I got! Check out my Friday 5 post tomorrow. I'll be showcasing the outfits I wore to work this week!
Did you have to play the recorder in school?
How many snow days have you had this year?

  5. I love the recorder karate...and the Indy music! Snow day here! My kids have gone to school 1.5 days this week so far because of snow/ice. So far all my piano lessons have been cancelled this week. Highly unusual here, but the problem is ICE.

    1. Ice is SCARY. I have 6 lessons tonight and I do think they will come. My road is plowed pretty well right now. It sucks having lessons on a snow day!

  6. Did you get that school delay?? We had a two hour delay which was great because I was out really late at the opera last night. (yes, the opera! - just posted a blog about). That is really cool about the black belt. I'm sure your student was very proud!!

  7. I love what you did for the boy with his black belt! You're so great. We haven't had school on Monday and Tuesday, they went yesterday and then it got cancelled today. We've had the worst winter ever. We've got massive amounts of snow and now it's turned to freezing rain and power is going out all over the place.

  8. I love that you make a big deal about what your kiddos achieve! Just think, Music just might be is "thing" and you gave him that extra "push".

I was pretty sure we would at least have a delay today so I stayed up later than usual and read race recaps!

I am glad you stayed up late! I did too. Midnight! I'm going to have a hard time going to bed at a descent hour tonight because I slept until 9!
