Running "Never Have I Ever"

Today’s post is inspired by Courtney @ Running for Cupcakes. Recently, she wrote a running “Never Have I Ever” post. I thought it was really fun so make sure you read it.

With her permission, I am sharing my own running “Never Have I Ever”. It was actually pretty hard to write this as I feel like, for better or worse, there is not much I haven’t done! But here ya go…

Never have I ever… worn compression socks.

Never have I ever… run a Disney race.

Never have I ever… flown to get to a race.

Never have I ever… DNF’ed. (Although I’ve had a lot of Did Not Starts haha!)

Never have I ever… ran/raced in another country.

Never have I ever… thrown up during/after a run.

Never have I ever… forgotten something extremely essential for a race. (AKA, shoes/sports bra)

Never have I ever…  worn a running skirt.

Never have I ever... put a running sticker on the back of my car.

And just to even things out, some things I have done during a race/run!

- Tripped
- Got lost
- Ran in the snow
- Did a cartwheel as I crossed the finish line
- BQ'ed
- Lost toenails
- Ran in a relay
- Got snot rocketed on (Philly Marathon)
- Raced in the dark
- Ran on the Appalachian Trail
- Tried Gus (ewwww never again!)
- Ate pizza and drank Mountain Dew (during my 50 mile ultra)

Your turn! Fill in the blank, "Never have I ever ___________"
Do we have anything in common that we did/didn't do?

  1. Wow--you got a snot rocket?!? Ugh. How did you cope?

    Never have I ever run a race EXCEPT a 5K when I was 11.

I know I am such the minority because I run simply to run! In fact, all my cycling, swimming, weights, yoga is just to do it. I train for nothing yet I am still very motivated to keep my body moving. I am sure I am missing out on some wonderful experiences by not competing in events; however, I never "have to" follow a plan. No speed work, no tempo runs or hills or long runs. Just me doing my thing....

    1. That's a pretty good never have I ever! I completely can understand not racing. It's harder for me to understand runners who race all the time than runners who don't race at all. There is absolutely nothing WRONG with racing all the time, it's just not something I want to do because to me, racing is stressful!

  2. Haha, this is great! I've actually done 5 of your Never Ever items! I've never done a mud run, color run, or obstacle run!

  4. We have much in common as runners - I've only done one of the things on your list (worn compression socks)!! Awesome!

  5. I've never run a Disney race either. They sound miserable, actually. I've never thrown up after a hard workout either. Maybe I don't push myself hard enough? Really, I just absolutely HATE to throw up.

    1. I have no desire to run a Disney race because I don't like Disney stuff! BUT if you like Disney, I am sure they are a BLAST! I mean, if they had a Nancy Grace Race, I'd totally run it!

    2. LOL. Megan that is hilarious. If they had a Seinfeld race, then MAYBE I would consider running one. I think I could talk you into, too!

  7. Well, I just lost everything else I was going to say when I read the last line - YOU RAN A 50?! I should have been asking you for advice!!!!!

    1. I did run one about 5 years ago! I wrote about it here: http://meggorun.blogspot.com/2014/02/once-upon-time-i-ran-50-miles.html but if you have any specific questions, ask away! I am no expert, since I only ran one.

  8. Never have I ever lost a toe nail! I and hope to keep it that way!
Never have I ever pee'd or pooped my pants while running... (same as above)
    :)

    1. LOL I am okay with the peeing but if I ever poop myself I better have earned a MAJOR PR in the process!!!

  9. Never have I ever lost a toenail (thankfully!). If only I could say the same thing about being injured!

    1. Oh I would sacrifice all my toenails if it meant no injuries. :)

  10. I have some of the same Nevers as you...never vomited during or after, never DNF'd (don't ever plan to, either! I'd rather walk to the finish line then quit!), never done Disney, never flown to a race or run in another country...or forgotten something essential for raceday!

I've tried to pee while running...I just tried last week...but I can't seem to LET IT GO lol!

    1. LOL! I understand, sometimes the muscles tighten. If you remember, my problem was that I was peeing, a car came, so I pulled up my shorts and tried to STOP peeing but I couldn't!

  11. I’m always so curious to learn about what other runners do and don’t do. We have a lot in common on the “Never have I ever…” list, although I do wear compression socks. My Never Have I Evers include…

Raced in a 5K (only 10K and longer)
    DNS’ed
    Lost toenails
    Run without gum

  12. I have only ever run one 5k! Good for you for keeping all your toenails. I don't understand how you do it!

  13. LOL I have done many of your " nevers!" I have never cart wheeled across the finish.....have to try that!

    1. You should! Or push Lola in a jogging stroller, Would she like that?? I can picture her hair and ears flowing in the breeze. :)

  14. Hhahah got snot rocketed on..... I'm certain you will never forget that. Hmmm never have I ever... ran more than 3 miles. Slightly sad, but it's the truth!

    1. No it' not sad, there are a billion other ways to be healthy. In fact running LONG is more risky than helpful!
