Clearly this is "Weekly" because I don't always schedule my workout re-caps in 7 day increments. This one happens to be 8 days. OOPS! But I get away with it due to the quotations marks...
Here is what I had goin' on!
Here is what I had goin' on!
2/26- Lifting Chest at home and mobility work. I stayed in my PJs the whole time and watched Fashion Police while I did it. I have such a hard life.
2/27- 5 freeeeeeeeeeezing miles!!!! I have mastered the art of running in single digit temperatures except for the fact that my chin and ears freeze. Everything else is fine. Time to double up on the covering of the ears and get a scarf to tuck over my chin. I was not feeling speedy this morning. I was feeling tense. I think it was all the layers.
3/2- Lifting back at home. I figured out a way to do assisted pull ups with my pull up bar at home. I'll be posting a video soon!
3/3- IT WAS SO FREAKING WARM THIS MORNING! ABOUT 23 DEGREES, TO BE EXACT! I ONLY WORE ONE PAIR OF PANTS!!! Running was a little more effortless without one thousand layers.
3/4- We had a "surprise" 2 hour delay this morning due to ice. It was actually warm out by the time I went on my run at 8am. And by warm, I mean the high 20s. But look, I've been running in single digits most days these past couple weeks. When the temperature is just shy of 30 degrees, it feels like SPRING to me! Again, this was a "one pair of pants" run. In fact, I ran in the same pair of pants as I did yesterday and I didn't even wash them. Call me gross, I don't care.
3/5- Chest at home. It was a blizzard outside! Then I tested out a HIIT workout I wrote for a client. It was a struggle!
3/6- Back, lower body, a little core, and some mobility work at Planet Fitness. We had a 2 hour delay so I was able to take my sweet time AND sleep in. It was almost like summer! (Except for the snow.)
This run ended up being a "try not to slip on the ice" run. Kudos to Heather @ Girl Goes Running who actually ran a half marathon in similar conditions last Sunday. I don't know how she did it! I ended up finding a loop in my neighborhood that wasn't icy and I just ran around that about a gazillion times to get in 8 miles.

How many pairs of pants are you running in these days?
The coldest I have run in this year (w/out wind chill) was 3 degrees. I actually have some really nice gear so I don't layer pants. I just wear the one pair that are made for winter. I do wear 2 pair of wool sox and I wear this head wrap + a beanie + a neck warmer but other than that, it's not much layering.
ReplyDeleteI had an icy run last Monday. Really slow and not much fun but I felt great afterward.
I AM READY FOR SPRING!!
I should just invest in some QUALITY gear like you. My first layer of pants is quality and good for like 18+ degrees. But below that, I have to layer on these Adidas tapered leg wind pants from HS. So bulky. And I look like a 90s mom in them. I think I should make the investment and get a 2nd layer that isn't so bulky!
DeleteNeck warmers are so key. I noticed that my chin freezes unless I can tuck it in something for at least part of my run.
It was hard to spend the money on the tights but I have not regretted it. And a good core base layer, too. Then I can still wear my light jacket (hot pink w/ flashing lights on the front and back). All the layering on my head doesn't feel bulky so then running in the snow just becomes running in the snow. Not running in the snow w/ 500 extra pounds of clothing!! I finally figured out the glove situation too. Only one pair of mittens that are extra big and roomy and I have hand warmers in there. So much better than last winter when I tried wearing 3 pairs of gloves and my hands still froze!!
Deleteomg I have been there with the gloves! This year it's my TOES that have been freezing. Today I ran and it was in the mid 30s and I almost had to go home because one of my toes would not regain feeling! Finally at mile 2.85 I regained feeling and could continue my run without worrying about frostbite.
DeleteDo you wear smart wool sox?
DeleteNo, today I wore just white tube socks lol. I really need better gear. :)
DeleteI am so glad you post on Saturdays...
ReplyDeleteI only wear one layer of tights/pants. I have some really thick winter/wind blocking ones from EMS that rock the cold--they are almost spongy to the touch. I usually wear a face mask on really cold days--oh, and if it is crazy cold, goggles.
I agree, any weather in the 20's feels absolutely wonderful these days. Spring IS coming!
I post everyday because I am an over achiever and just don't know when to stop! Although a used to read a blog where the girl posted two times a day. It was crazy! But it was mostly a "what I did today" blog, you know?
DeleteI will check out that company and see if I can find pants like you describe. I know it is really cold where you are too, so if they work for you maybe they can work for me too!
Today the real feal around 11am (when I plan to start my run) claims to be 33. It is really sunny out, so I am inclined to believe it. We will see. Pretty sure I will only be breaking out one pair of pants today!
I don't think I have ever had to run in two pair of pants. When it is really cold I will wear compression socks under my tights, but I've never needed more. You must be running is some crazy conditions out there - major kudos to you!!!
ReplyDeleteThis winter is the COLDEST I have ever run in! Compression socks is a good idea. They keep me warm during the day under my leggings. :)
DeleteI'm not even going to tell you what I'm running in lately. I cannot even fathom running in several layers of clothing. Running is hard enough half-naked!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to run half naked again!!!
DeleteAlso, we just watched the episode of friends with THE LIST. :)
DeleteEvery time I do (assisted) pull ups now I think of you!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I don't want to do them because they are hard, but then I'm just like WWMD (what would meg do) and I get er done!
YAY!!!! I think about one of my clients who dreads them but does them anyway. So when I don't feel like it I think to myself, "Well, Danielle does them." hahaha.
DeleteStill running in my shorts - nice and toasty on my treadmill!!! Although if I had waited till this afternoon to run I could have gone outside in shorts - 72 here!!! Crazy since we had snow last weekend.
ReplyDelete72!? That is crazy!
DeleteI'm glad you had such a great week of workouts, including your amazing long run!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ali!
