Weekend Wrap Up! (Lititz, Pride & Family)

Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Here's what we were up to...

Finally, we made it to Lititz! The rain and thunderstorms all week thwarted our plans. But today, it was nice and sunny.

We parked near Spring Park and walked a loop. It's a very pretty, bustling park.

I kept thinking about how my nephew Clark would love this playground!

I couldn't take my eyes off the ducks. They looked so happy and clearly were living their best lives. When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a Lititz duck.

We walked around the town and popped in a couple stores.

Clementines!!!!!!!!!!!

We did a wine tasting at Stargazer Vineyards and Waltz Vineyards. Stargazer was our favorite because the woman serving us was so friendly and fun to talk to. Maybe when I retire, I will go work at a winery!

This is the bottle we bought. We general aren't huge fans of white, but this Reisling was really good!

Then we had an early dinner at JoBoy's, which is a BBQ place. Paul didn't eat all of his mac and cheese, so he let me have it. He loves me!

Before we left, we picked up some chocolate covered marshmallows and fudge at Wilbur's Chocolate.

Lititz is a cute little town, and if you live in Central PA, I recommend a day trip!

Even though I went for a run that morning, I had lots of good podcasts to listen to, so I went for an evening walk.

Paul spent the evening in downtown Harrisburg. There was a Sublime tribute band he wanted to see called Badfish. He had so much fun!

My morning started off with some coffee and blogging. I had some help from my assistant.

Then I did THREE deck of cards workouts in front of my house. Jump rope, burpees, mountain climbers, and bicycle crunches happened over and over and over again. At one point, it just so happened that I had to do 47 burpees IN A ROW. Of course, in true Megan style, I had to round it up to 50. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!

Then I headed over to the Central PA Pride Festival. Normally, Pride is held on the riverfront, but due to the flooding, Gov. Wolf allowed it to be moved to the Capitol Complex.

I know it is okay to go to Pride as a cisgender straight person, but I did do some reading to make sure I behaved correctly. The main thing to remember as a straight person at Pride is that THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU.

Here are some articles for further reading...

Another thing to ask yourself... are you being an ally only today, or are you an ally the other 364 days of the year as well?

  1. Be a listener.
  2. Be open-minded.
  3. Be willing to talk.
  4. Be inclusive and invite LGBT friends to hang out with your friends and family.
  5. Don't assume that all your friends and co-workers are straight. Someone close to you could be looking for support in their coming-out process. Not making assumptions will give them the space they need.
  6. Anti-LGBT comments and jokes are harmful. Let your friends, family and co-workers know that you find them offensive.
  7. Confront your own prejudices and bias, even if it is uncomfortable to do so.
  8. Defend your LGBT friends against discrimination.
  9. Believe that all people, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation, should be treated with dignity and respect.
  10. If you see LGBT people being misrepresented in the media, contact us at glaad.org.
Yesssss! Could not be happier...

YES EVERYONE PLEASE REGISTER!!!!!

Our vet was there!!!!
I'm glad Chrissy and Jelly go into an inclusive vet.

After Pride, Paul and I went over to his parent's house to hang out with his family. We had a great time eating steak, lounging on the deck, and playing a competitive game of Dutch Blitz. Expletives were flying... we all wanted to win!

 Swipey!!!!
I kiss him on the lips and he meows.

 Paul and his Momma

Paul's dad was our DJ for Dutch Blitz
Today was just a git 'er done type of day. I did some vacation planning, blogging, yard work, packing, and worked out. It wasn't all work though. Paul and I played some cards!

What's the most burpees you ever did in a row?
What's the cutest little small town near you?
Have you ever played Dutch Blitz?
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!

  1. I just happen to have completed fifty burpees in a row this morning! It was terrible, haha. It was during a CrossFit workout called "Filthy Fifty" and I'd already done 50 of eight other movements beforehand. I had a cheering section to get me through, I admire you for doing them on your own!

    1. What are the odds!!?? I'm glad you had a cheering section, I bet that felt good! What are the other eight exercises you had to do 50 of and in what order?

    2. Here's the whole workout:

Box jumps - jumping pull ups - kettlebell swings - lunges - hanging knee raises - push presses - good mornings - wall balls - burpees - double unders

It took me 40 minutes to do it all. I was dead.

  3. OMGGGGG 50 burpees in a row! I did 30 burpees per day when I did the burpee challenge last year but I always split it up into 3 x 10 burpees!

My step-father was from Litiz. He and his first wife were police officers there; his first wife died in the line of duty and then he retired and moved down to Florida. He always talked about how much he liked living there!

    1. That is soooo sad. I picture Lititz being such a safe town, and then the surrounding areas are all farms and Amish. I mean, I know Lancaster is not far away and it can be dangerous there. That is just so sad.

    2. I think it is mostly a safe little town. When he talked about his work he said it was usually just "good ol boys" getting rowdy after drinking and getting into stupid fights. I don't know much about the details of what happened with his first wife but I know she was in a car chase and her car spun off and hit a tree. I'm not sure if it happened in Litiz or if she was called over to another town or something.

  4. Our PRIDE is in September because it's so hot here. It used to be in like July until a few years ago but it was a smart move to move it since most events were outside. I have not been but I have been to Gay Bingo and a few other events associated with it/fundraisers. You are so right though- allies have to be allies EVERY DAY not just during pride or when it is easy and fun to be.

The cutest small town near Charleston? Summerville :).

Your weekend looks fun and that mac and cheese looks delicious. I think working at a winery would be a really fun retirement job (or as I say, hobby job).

    1. You talk about Summerville all the time! Maybe I shall have to look it up now. :) I know the month of Pride is June, so I don't know why Harrisburg's festival is in July... I mean it's hotter in July than June. Oh well. Pride should be all summer long in my opinion! Yeah working at a winery would be great. It's not like anyone is sad when they are drinking wine!

  5. Wow, fun weekend! I love those day adventures. I do think you would be SO awesome working in a winery. That would be a really fun part time job when you retire! I really don't do burpees...like ever. You are much more bad ass than I am. Have not played that game but Rick's family is WAY into games so I should look it up. The cutest small town next to us is probably Estes?! It's touristy for sure. We went to Winter Park this weekend and it was fabulous. I absolutely love being in the mountains in the summer.

    1. I would love to go to Winter Park sometime. Not that I know all the cute towns by you, but I agree Estes is super cute! Were you ever at Manitou Springs? That is so cute too, it actually reminds me of Knoebels. Dutch Blitz is a very fast paced game. Does his fam like fast paced? It's like a cross between spit and solitaire, but solitaire with more than one person. I know it sounds weird!

    2. I put a link up in one of my comments with the cards on amazon and a youtube video on how to play it. It's actually the video we used to learn! Paul played as a kid but he forgot how to play, and I had no clue. I am NOT good at learning the rules to games just by reading them. I need to see the game actually played to understand.

  6. I learned two new things from your blog today - Dutch Blitz, and cisgender! Seriously, I have never heard of the word cisgender. But you know me, I live under a rock when it comes to current topics. I do feel like I'm accepting of all genders/status and however people want to define themselves :) Looks like a fun weekend! I do like Reisling wine. I'm all about the sweet whites and rose wine.

    1. I didn't learn the term cisgender until I listened to the Savage Love Podcast, which is by Dan Savage. The podcast is a little MUCH, so I definitely am not recommending it, but that is where I learned what cisgender was!

I think your family would LOVE playing Dutch Blitz! It is very fast paced... kind of like a cross between spit, and solitaire, but with more than one person. I have links in the comments above with an amazon link and a youtube vid on how to play it. I can see your kids getting competitive!

  8. We love Lititz! My son was asking me yesterday if we can go again, he says he misses it. We have not been to the park yet, maybe we will check it out next time we go.

I really wanted to go to the Pride festival, but I forgot about it completely.

    1. Maybe you could go to the Lititz on the day the park has a free concert or festival? Apparently it happens often! They were setting up for something while we were there.
